Why vape at 100w

This vape thing is still evolving. When the dna 30 came out it seems like people were like "why?" then too. It starts with enthusiasts and early adopters, and as they figure out new things to do and cool new ways of improving their vape, others will follow.

I'm just now getting into mechs. I have preferred APVs because it adds a lot of safety. I didn't have to worry about over discharging the battery or if my build went to crap on me. I probably try some .2 ohm builds just to play with it, but I prefer a cooler vape, so I imagine I won't hang out down there for long. I mostly got the mech (should be here today!!) for portability... The size of the APVs are like 1/3 bigger, and I want something a little more pocket friendly without sacrificing battery life. I'm usually on a 28ga 1.2-1.4 micro coil at 13-17 watts depending on the liquid and atty. I'd build higher, but I like the lower startup time on these lower ohm coils.

Since the FDA was brought into this thread.... They have to take time to read all the comments... I know I posted an essay, and I'm sure a good portion of the people that left comments took the time to do the same. I imagine we still have a few months before anything goes live, but hopefully they are forced to reconsider their positions and they amend the crap out of this initial proposal.... Time will tell, but I think we are far from the doom and gloom of "it's all over now"

Hopefully it is obvious, but every word of this is IMO...

Well if the price is reasonable, I'm gonna buy the ipv3 100w when it comes out, and sell this new ipv2. Hell, why not have the ability to go higher than 50w if I ever want to.

There are already a couple of big, 99% feedback, eBay sellers that are offering pre orders for the ipv3. I'm tempted to go ahead and click buy now, and just not pay for it yet.

I will add for emphasis that what you top your mod with makes *all* the difference. Otherwise, these threads are simply comparing apples and oranges.

A ProTank will most likely burn at anything over 8 -10 watts, because it uses really thin wire coils (that more often than not have hot spots) that get very hot (with little surface area contacting the juice) along with silica wicks that don't transfer juice particularly fast and relatively small amounts of airflow.

So of course cranking the wattage on a ProTank (or similar stock clearomizers/cartomizers) is pointless. But most people vaping at higher wattages aren't using stock tanks.

Once you rebuild a RBA/RDA with bigger coils with thicker wires, wicked with material that transfers juice much faster (rayon, in my case), with greatly increased airflow, you can greatly increase the power without burning your juice.

I run my Kayfun's at around .9 ohms, which is 20 watts on a full battery, and I get a relatively conservative vape experience. My juice never burns, I don't blow huge clouds, and it's not at all what I would consider "hot." It is, however, a much *denser* cloud than any clearo, with a corresponding flavor improvement, so it is definitely preferable, IMO, to the average 8-10 watt tank (it's not nearly as convenient to swap coils, however!).

TL;DR - it's not about how much power your mod produces, it's about what it is *powering* that determines whether it is "overkill" or not...

I fully disagree... Vaping requires few things: Batteries, Resistance Wire, Wicking Material and Nicotine.

There are lots of products that are, for all intents and purposes, identical to an ecig in function and will remain legal post ban. There is no practical way they are going to regulate the power-supply hardware or batteries. A box with batteries and a connector is only ecig related if that is how it is advertised.

Atomizers will surely survive as a rebuildable is not an ecig until one adds the coil and nicotine, prior it could be a fog machine an aromatherapy device a homoeopathic nebulizer... Besides, to any that is DIY competent an atomizer and battery box is easily made from hardware store components.

Resistance wire is obviously beyond regulation an used throughout technology and industry.

The biggest change IMO is going to be nicotine. They will tax beyond reason or completely take away bottled juice, I imagine the days of buying 10%, high concentrate nicotine will be coming to an end. Many vapors stocked up long ago on gallons of 10% nicotine, and many more will stock up as the legislation progresses and gets media attention. However nicotine is a commonly used pesticide within agriculture, it seems unlikely they will be successful in eliminating nicotine from existing.

Even if nicotine gets effectively locked down in some manner people will begin extracting nicotine. Heck people are already extracting nicotine, and actively pursuing cost effective, at-home friendly processes. Between steam distillation, A/B extractions and natural extracts the nicotine will continue to flow. The entire WTA thing is the result of people experimenting and extracting alkaloids from tobacco and discovering there are many synergistic alkaloids beyond nicotine.

On the subject of VV/VW I've never understood any of it. I prefer mechanical systems, why would I ever want anything other than 100% of the battery being used on my coil is beyond me. From there I control my experience with coil resistance, diameter, wire gauge, wick material, airflow. I rebuild my coil every week on Friday night and I've noticed that if I build it a little different I will naturally adjust my draw to get the 'sweet spot' of a perfect vape by lunch on Saturday.

I occasionally cloud chase. I have a little project box that holds 2 18650s in series with a protection/balance circuit built in. Cost me less than $20 to build, and it rocks 8.4 volts will fire anything up to 25 amps... Ridiculously overkill, fun on occasion and at home-dripping setups... Only because I added a fancy auto-reset fuse, before that the only limiting factor was the batteries safety limits.

Do some of you high-wattage guys know how much coal it takes to keep your PV's going?

A solar charger takes care of that, but nice thought.
