Well,after a couple months trying cotton,cheesecloth,bamboo and whatnots,I went back to silica...less trouble,better wicking all around...really.

Oh,just a lil detail....I found some 1mm braided (that is more like 1.5-2mm,tad bigger when wet) that fits in everything, wick like cwazy and doesnt frail.

As for the mesh thing,I got some closeups of 325 and 400...no need to point out which is which:

In addition,I am trying to lay hands on silica mesh:

I woke up this morning with a wicked case of the cottonitis, caused by a polymicrobial vector, namely, cheesecloth and bamboo. I'm ordering cultures as we speak, and broad spectrum antibiotics, e.g. Nicotinemycin

Wish me well!
I would rather deal with the cottonitis. I hear Nicotinemycin also lessens the desire to vape.

HaHa..My wife said I had "cottonosis" the other day, she saw me staring at some yarn...I was just going through the analysis of whether or not it would wick...I must have been deep in thought.

What is that device there? Looks like huge tanks..

That's my Quigsworth Hybrid (Tank, box, switch all integrated) tank is connected and held in place with 9V batt connectors, tank is square tubing polycarb, ends are cast in place poly resin, leads are 18 awg HH silver, tank holds 20+ ml (stupid I know) SS tube is a gutted type "B" atty with a 1mm air hole...it's light, tough and fiddle free, I keep 1' of 32 folded up and an extra wick stored behind the batt...proud of this one, easily the best mod I've built to date.

Yes finally reached the end....wife almost killed me :p
So I'm using what you guys called cheese cloth and it works better then sillica in a spheroid.
I just need to find the thickness of the wick still, I've been rebuilding it every 3 days and slightly making a thicker wick each time.

Thx for all the info here and all the "ginnypigs" :2cool: out there for doing the testing.

I think the guy in one of YouTube vids that was posted said he used 40 threads if that helps.

I've had to change out my rolled cotton wick every couple of days for the past week on my SmokTech rebuildable tank. Tried my usual hot water rinse that worked for rewicking my CE2s, but, meh, still got an off taste. Today set up a short-wick-in-coil, long-wick-over-coil. See if I can just change the short wick w/o dismantling this thing.

I was having issues at the half tank level...it's a long way up to the coil from the lower tank :p...but the 500 mesh seems to have fixed that...but ya, monster tank, or stupid sized tank...I just wanted to use up the box space...should have stuffed a VV reg in there in hindsight :)

That's cool....vv would be nice maybe on the revised version you can improve if needed....be real nice to have enough battery to out last the tank. That would be perfect for a fishing trip or even just us who don't care for constant battery change or tank refills......great mod. Quig....

Not sure if I'm in the right thread but I'm having serious issues with rebuilding a wick for my Vivi nova. I'm using about 4 or 5 twists with 100% cotton and my wraps, especially by now, are beautiful. They are evenly spaced, not touching each other, and don't touch the sides. I wet the wick and ohm it out usually around 2.0-2.5. I'm running 4 volts, but EVERY TIME it burns about after 4 hits. The wick I'm using is #1/0 off of amazon, Amazon.com: Cotton Square Braid Candle Wick - #1/0: Arts, Crafts & Sewing. Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong? I'm using a needle to assist with the twists and thought that maybe I'm getting them too tight. I tried a toothpick but with the same results. I tried two needles tonight and the same results. I would like to try a different wick. Any suggestions? I should also add that I keep my Provari tipped while vaping but it doesn't matter.

It may not be your coil. How are your pinch points where the wick enters the head. If its a stock head, the 1/0 braid will be tight. Did you open up the slot?

I found that with cotton braid, the slot opening in the vivi head needs to be fairly precise and match to the braid width to optimize flow. Too tight you choke..to loose you flood. I would also suggest that you use BJ43's cotton overlay technique. It makes a world of difference.

Skrum, if it makes you feel any better I couldn't get #1/0 (or any candle wick mat.) to work without basically unweaving it with a pin (my first and last time doing that )...my Vivi Nova is my stand-by, when everything else is acting up like a spoiled brat device...file out the slot to 3mm, get your self some CC from the grocery store, count up 35-40 threads, one pin wrap your coil and lay another small piece of that just on top of the coil and done...yet to have that fail...then vape on that till you can get some Aunt Lydia's #10...7 strands of well boiled Lydia and heaven....

Guig, Which aunt lydias should I order? I see several listed on the net as #10.
