ebay has em - probably amazon too........I do see most of em say non-sterile - I am pretty sure the ones I got are non sterile too.....need an expert to chime in please........
I think as long as it is 100% cotton it should be fine.....i guess you could boil em like I did with the cotton yarn and bamboo if you are wanting to make sure it is free of chemicals......

Found another article about sterile cotton balls - they are heated to kill germs and then sealed. So unless u can find individually wrapped sterile cotton balls - once you open the bag - poof - not sterile anymore. I guess one could heat em in the microwave - not sure - may catch on fire - now u got me all confused...........lol

Ohh and time for something related to the topic... Isn't Ceramic wick's recommended anymore? Is there any proof that they have a higher sorptivity than Glass fiber wick's?

Well I had promised myself another tat as soon as I quit smoking - time has come. I am sure I have heard those slogans whilst performing poja - but am not aware of their meanings. As far as ceramic wicks - are you referring to silica? I dont think there is any 100% positive proof that it is not good or dangerous. I decided to try cotton and it works much better. Some folks use the cotton yarn, some bamboo yarn, some cheese cloth - I tried em all and for me cotton balls were easy to use and are great.
Was thinking about sterile vs non sterile - and it hit my like a brick wall. If you buy sterile cotton, as soon as the bag is opened, as soon as you pick on outta the bag - not sterile anymore. So I am thinking as long as it is 100% cotton - it should be good. Wonder how sterile the cartos, clearos etc that are made in China.....just my 2 cents.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, your juice will probably kill most bugs on your wick. Both PG and VG have antimicrobial properties, and PG is antifungal too. Many flavorings are alcohol based, which would kill bacteria as well.
The most unsanitary things in the entire process are the fingers that make the coil and wick, unless you scrub like a doctor.
Damthisisfun I'd love to see pics of your Ce3 set up. I too have found one way to make those pieces of crap work better is cotton. Never tried a naked coil with wick on top though.
Not sure if this was mentioned here yet. But it looks like bamboo wick just went mainstream.

I'm trying to figure out the makeup of that bamboo wick. It looks as if it may be several threads together wrapped with a spiral thread...
Looks like threads wrapped together, I just sent them an email asking if this is bamboo viscose or natural bamboo fiber.

You mentioned doing something like that with the ce3 ? Was wondering how you dealt with the wick slots and length of wick
Since you can't dry burn cotton wicking I hit the coil with a lighter until it glows briefly and wear gloves when handling the wick... but that's probably overkill.

Hey can anyone guide me through the process of making a coil with cotton candle wick for a penelope? How different is it from making a coild with silica? Or are there better alternatives? someone told me about bamboo, im really not sure, i just wanna give something other than silica a try.
I can't give you specifics on the penelope, but generally speaking it's the same as silica except the cotton and bamboo swell a bit so you don't want your wraps too tight. Try cotton first; bamboo wicks great, but has a slight woody taste that's not for everyone (based on what I've read here and found to be true myself).
