ok, i unrolled some cotton balls, cut an rolled it, wraped coil, placed into genisis tank secured the nichrome to neg and pos. checked ohms,(3.0), unwraped 1 turn, fires up good, but not wicking.....

Your wick is probably too dense...you can't have it too solid or have to jam it in the wick hole, if you choke it off it doesn't wick well, conversely too loose and you may over wick and saturate your coil where you will also get nothing but sizzle...it's a fine balance.

Santo, I was doing the same thing last night. I was putting mine into original G-tank. My wick was too dense also. Once it swelled up with juice it was unable to pass through the hole and choked off flow to the coil below. Bummer.

I think I need to try some gauze pads. The cotton balls are too finicky and very tough to get a consistent density. It did work somewhat, just not to my liking.

Oh, don't take that as an absolute truth. Its just my (limited) experience that I'm sharing here. I didn't have much luck with cotton balls, and well, couple of dozen pages back, there was some discussion about how cotton is treated during manufacturing process, which made me stick to gauze. Due to my, again limited, knowledge on the subject, I trust "medical grade" more than "food grade".

Again, One more time another Veteran stumbles across this thread. :) Why isn't this thread a sticky? Why, why, why?

Is it the title of the thread? Can Evil change the title to get this awesome wick mod out there?

This is an amazing idea. I never use my Line bec its such a pain in the ... to prepare SS wicks...I'm going to head out to the drugstore to get some sterile cotton gauze. Wish me luck y'all.

And you'll tell 2 friends, and they'll tell 2 friends...I agree with Tib, this will just spread organically (no pun intended re: cotton ;))

Seeing as this method is so transferable to genesis devices without the health risks of silica, fiberglass or even ceramic it's truly a viable alternative...which I kinda get the feeling is driving the old guard genesis guys nuts...soon or later someone is going to post on Vapour Wall that they are running their Zen Standard or Orion V2 on cotton wick and it's awesome...their world will implode :p

i tried it again , and thinner piece this time, still coming up with 2.5 - 3.3 ohms, with only three wraps of coil, but it fires up good with only 4 volts on the ProVari.
getting better , not quite there yet,

3 wraps around thin wick, and you get 2,5-3,3 ohms? What are you using for a coil? And what atty are you putting that in? I'm guessing you have problems with contacts between terminal and the coil.

one of Scubadans early creations with the permission of Raidy,
i'm useing some thin Nichrome wire from my old vapin supplies , i dont even have any info on what specs it is, its thinner than 0.16 kanthal

That's your issue...that could be 34 or even 36 awg wire...the R value goes up the smaller in diameter the wire goes. Problem is, if you use that same wire with fewer wraps to get a hotter coil you lose surface area being heated...

32 kanthal, 6wraps, 2.7homs, thinner wick (coton), wicking good, vapes like a maddog, BUT, when i screw cap on, the air hole is too big, too much air, loss of vapor, covered with tape for now and put smaller hole, ... at 4.9 volts , vapes good, also notice black at coils, wonder if its the juice , lowered volts to 4.4..
is the wick at the coils supposed to stay white, (clean)?
the flavor and taste is surely alot different than ss mesh..
