I've been trying SS Mesh wrapped cotton string wicks in my Echo Vision Crystal cartomizers. I've been wrapping only the section that is inside the tube...about 1/8" or a little more.
Last night I rinsed and dry-burned a couple of them. One I immediately put back to use. Today I decided to examine one more closely. Upon removal from the tube I found the doubled cotton string wick easily pulled apart where the dry burning had taken place. It was obviously charred. The other continues to work and I'm currently vaping on it.
Conclusion - The SS Mesh can extend the life of these cotton string wicks when used with less than clear ejuice. vaping seems as good as with plain cotton string. Gunk buildup seems to be limited to the outside of the mesh and coil area. The success of dry burning is limited and may not be good for more than one extension of wick life. Gunk buildup may be a little slower than the clogging that happens to cotton string only wicks.
I've been thinking about doing something like that with my Penelope. It's still too new for me to get around to doing it but, someday.

Dang, wish my wife was as good to me as my CE2s!
Still lovin' the cotton tho'
