I tried a number of times to do a mesh over ceramic and mesh over cotton in my Ody...because of the no res/res/no res coil configuration it just turned into a big major pain in the .......at least with the ceramic you could oxidize with the mesh pre wrapped...if you do that with mesh over cotton, keep a fire extinguisher handy...
There are some people that oxidize mesh before rolling. The claim it works. I was thinking about trying that.
In my case, I cut and coiled the mesh and then treated them. I made up about 15 of them and did them all at the same time on a paperclip or piece of wire. I uncoiled them a bit to put them on the wicks. ...seems to work okay.
You nailed it. Can't get any easier than that! Seriously, this setup was the best my gtus ever vaped. I still got a metallic taste for a while but it did subside. Seems like all I ever tasted was metal using a SS wick.

The single strand of hemp-cotton wick with SS mesh at the coil seems to be hitting better than the double strands of cotton string I have been using. It may be the woven aspect of the cotton sheath. It may be that there is more open area inside. Not sure, but it hits nicely at one strand.
Went from cotton in a CE2 to cotton in rebuildable Stone V3 tank back to the CE2. I got a few more days out of the first CE2 rewicked with cotton; but finally popped the coil on it today - at least 1.5 months of total use on this CE2. Pulled out another CE2, cotton wick rolled and threaded into coil and vaping away.
Those CE2s are like a terrible gf that's good in bed, real hard to beat, real hard to shake!
So last night I did one tank with 1 layer / ply of gauze and did the coil around a small finishing nail. It flooded pretty hard at first but pushed though for a little bit and it is amazingly better. I think the coil could be a bit tighter but the 1 layer seems to be perfect for the Vivi with Milled holes.
I once spent a month getting to know a gal and 3 1/2 years trying to get rid of her.
I just ran a coil for a week just to see how long one would last. One week and no burning.
But at these prices why not just rebuild for every tank.

You can use the same stuff to rebuild a CE2. just pointing out that for the same price of 3-4 atty's I have a year or so supply of coils and wick.
Ok, took the 15 minutes and tried out my rebuilding technique on the burnt out CE2; as a proof of concept it works . Popped the ceramic cup off the air tube, pulled the wires up through the cup, trimmed the broken coil off down to the solder joint. Wrapped a coil around a cotton wick on a straightened paperclip, wrapped coil ends around CE2 wires, snugged kanthal up against the solder joint on the wires and put the cup back on the air tube. Dripped some juice on the wick and fired it up.
Now with a bit more practice, 75ft of 32gauge kanthal, 73+ft of 34 gauge kanthal, 10ft of 36gauge nichrome, 10+CE2s, and a box of rolled cotton (batton); I should be set for a while
