~5 wraps of 34 gauge kanthal will give you ~3ohms :D, just sayin'. I've never been a LR vaper, I've preferred to bump up the volts.

That's good to know. I've only got 32 awg Kanthal. I'll have to pick up some other guages as I progress in this genisis world of atty's. But at least I have 2 more wraps of coil heating and vaporizing the juice w/ 32 awg

I'm not a LR type either, the lowest I try to get is 2Ω.

You pegged me right from the avatar, I've got more than a few years under my belt wrapping fur and feathers on a hook shank. That Threadstick is actually being held in a fly tying vise (he he).

I used 5 strands from a piece of cheesecloth and tried to build a little bulk to act as a sponge under the coil. Then I pulled the strands up through the center of the wick. I left 1/4" sticking out the other end just in case it might be helpful pulling it out when re-doing the wick. I've also done it w/ 1 and 2 long tails (like a long wick Vivi) to help get the last of the juice out of the tank. Can't tell if it really helps yet.

No fair, a ringer :D...I get the "trying to build a sponge" thing, but I was actually trying to build the opposite...I wanted just enough cotton to avoid the kanthal on mesh metallic taste that I get with a lot of my fruit flavours (it's like fingernails on a chalkboard for me). As far as re-wicking, I pick off what I can then just torch the rest.

btw, also meant to say, I tried this with sewing thread (plain white cotton), bla, sizing...too bad, way easier than un-weaving cheese cloth

When I said I had used it for years I meant in Attys, three years ago I started using SS wool instead of poly.

WOW, seriously impressed BJ, you must have been one of the first to use this, do you still use it ? I just find it works really well and increases flavor a lot in an Atty when around the ceramic cup or near the coil, compared to without.

I strip all my Atty's apart down to the ceramic cups, and wrap the cups with this mesh and a small piece up under the cup push everything back up in the tube and it turns them into some great Atty's,,,Like a 357, even use a small piece in my Bulli smoker RBA and it increases my flavor a lot.

Last night I took an Iken Cannon Atty apart, and did this with this Atty and man is it a monster Atty.

You mean you made the Cannon more of a monster than it is stock?, woh!, all you need to do now is figure out how make them stop leaking as fast as an excited puppy ...those Cannons are easily the best/worst atty I've tried

mwa, now i basically stick to the vivi with cotton batten, lines with SS, and standard atty with bonuts for dripping and testing my diy juice. All the experimenting is great and has really made vaping a hobby more than a habit.

the habit keeps me away from cigs more than the nic!

For me, it's definitely a habit that I then made into a hobby as well, and in multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical, 'e-soup chemistry', and just enjoyment of the imaginative designs shared here).

Whatever you call it though, it's easy for me to justify with the resulting ease of spurning the analogs.

Habbit/Hobby + ECF = Plenty of fun in good company.

ETA: I had had a little trouble kicking analogs, but overall, it was an on/off thing with them and better vaping preparation and greater experimentation easily won out in the end.

Did you say "Threadstick"? I gave it a try Quigs. It's working good, but next time I think I'll try to wrap it a bit thinner and looser.

oh - and if anyone wonders about all those coil wraps, I was trying for high Ωs to see if I could warm up the vape on my GTUS. It's metering at 3Ω and the wick is keeping up with it at 5v, though I'm vaping it at 4.5v.
Once used a clamp like that to make WollyBuggers and Royal Coachmen. Do you have your Kanthal thread feeding from a bobbin? Lol.

The way I made this Cannon it doesn't leak a drop, not a 1, and man let me tell ya it is a freaking monster,,, doing the same thing with the joy Mega Atty's too, huge ceramic cups big coil all wrapped with the mesh, small piece under the cup, then another piece wrapped around the cup, do the same thing with 510 Atty's, turns them all into vaping monsters and the flavor is doubled easy. :)

I have a few Cannons laying around collecting dust cause I cant deal with the leaks. Would you consider putting together a rebuild tutorial so the rest of us can have a go with these monsters?

Ya I'm not so good at that whole tutorial video thing, but I could surely walk you through this, PM me.
