Apparently I need to get this "rolled cotton" rather than the cotton balls and sterile cotton galls. I'm still getting a kinda bad taste from both. Tried small wicks, bigger wicks, more wraps, less wraps, 32g wire and some a lot smaller.

Just cant seem to get a satisfactory vape and I'm not new to rebuildables. Don't really want to give up but I'm taking one step forward and two back.

It's possible that it's not 100% cotton. Even sterile cotton balls may have another material besides cotton.

Also try the lowest voltage you can until it breaks in a little.:2c:

Agreed, I've seen cotton balls, especially in the cosmetic section of stores where if you read the fine print (the real fine print) they contain rayon...it apparently helps keep their "loft" when dampened...yes, I have to google EVERYTHING!

Yeah, its 100% cotton. Well...Ive not burned any to test, but it says 100%. The second one I wore rubber gloves and rolled, coiled, etc. with those on and it did do better.

I hate to be the "ood man out" but I like the silica better. I really want this (fill in the blank) to work as its easy and accessible. I'll keep watching this thread for updates / ideas.

Update on my impressions of the Vivi...this thing is stupid unreal easy to re-build, you can throw any amount of rolled at it (seems I can't screw this thing up :D) and it tastes great...sure it's kinda cheap and the gradients on the tank make it look like a basement shop syringe mod and that piece of silicon tubing as an airway seal is a little cheesy but someone should make a full-on SS version of this with a decent connector and charge $70 for it...I'd buy one...the fact that you can have a head installed and 2 on deck...screw giving this to my buddy, I'm keeping it...he can get his own;)

...best $15 I ever spent :)...thanks guys for showing me the light on these...and no offence to anyone, but this is coming from a guy who hates CE2 type atty's (and that includes my Ody at times )

Well,I had to stop using my consistent paton yarn. It was really accelerating the darkening of my juice. Not that I mind the color but I do mind that something about that yarn causes the darkening to accelerate. Not getting that with the gauze so I'm going to stick with that and cotton batten.

Bmays have you tried cotton yarn yet? It might be the one for you!

Quigs let me ask you this. When you put the cotton into the geni type set up, do you see the wick suck up juice to the top of the wick immediately? i was discouraged, because when I place it into the tank, it seems I'm not seeing any capillary action (cotton yarn btw, maybe that's the issue!?). The part in contact with juice sucked it up obviously, but it didn't seem to climb up to the top at all

Now that's strange. I had just the opposite problem.
With my juice the silica is the fastest to darken, then the guaze and hardly any darkening (till about a month) with the yarn.

That's a really good question and something I noticed just recently in my hunt for "consistency"...I used to dampen my wicks before install with a little PG on my fingers tips (which is a really good way to make your finger tips clean when rolling btw), but now I try an keep the wick as dry as possible when inserting into about a half full tank...if you don't see wickage (made up another word ;)) to where the coil will be in about 15-20 secs. it's too tight and choked, may as well stop and pull some off (if you are using rolled) cause it's just going to be a problematic wick...that's how I basically came up with the "twisted tight, it should be no more than 2/3 the size of the hole you're putting it in"

This "pull some off/add on" option only really works with rolled/ball (raw) cotton, and I know it must sound like I'm being a raw cotton fanboy..it's just wicking Lines (or any vert wick genny) density/size seems hyper critical and it seem that being able to adjust incrementally is necessary.:)

I thought the same thing, as I bought V1's from COV for $12 a piece. Fortunately I have found another vendor still selling the V1's, as the V2's and 2.5's no longer have the air holes drilled in the bottom of the tank screw, it's now in the 510 connector. When it's screwed on the ProVari, it sits flush with the tank and blocks the air. I just bought three more to ensure I have replacements if I need them :D

strange stuff

I have a cup of PG, with a piece of Yarn in it, and its not wicking lol. At all.

I also have a twisted piece of baton in there, and its also not wicking.

I've been waiting for someone to post up "A Day At The Wick Races" . "Rounding the turn we have cotton with bamboo on his tail followed by 400 mesh!" :)

I could tell a noticeable difference in color in just a couple hours. I don't know why but I don't like it. Strands of gauze threads work just as good so that's what I'm sticking with. I think now that I have found the perfect size coil for me any of the cotton choices are going to work better.

This sounds like there is a connection between gunk and wick materials and the juice that we use. sounds like a given juice may be better suited to a different wick material.
