LOL I had to Google Tolstoyian. :>)

Ha!, just googled it myself and you know what?, I had no idea there was such a thing as a Tolstoyian (actually Tolstoyan)... apparently ol' Leo cooked up some new religion...for the record, I just called this thread that in reference to the fact the Leo wrote some serious looong books

Not that I'm any authority (having also just learned a little about the term myself), but it looks he had not quite cooked up a religion as far as he was concerned, as he wrote:

To speak of "Tolstoyism," to seek guidance, to inquire about my solution of questions, is a great and gross error. There has not been, nor is there any "teaching" of mine.

On wikipedia

It amazes me the mix of knowledge you bump into in this forum. Keeps things very interesting. :)

I haven't made my way through this whole monster thread yet, but I was just talking with my wife about the whole cotton wick issue, and while she normally glazes over during my "vape talk", she perked up...

I don't know why it didn't cross my mind, but she knits and spins her own yarn for her projects. In roughly 5 minutes she had sourced raw, organic, cotton fiber that was grown without pesticides, has never been treated with chemicals, bleach, or anything else. It's just been planted, picked, and carded (brushed to align the fibers for spinning). It comes in a bag the size of a pillow case, and should yield around 425 yards at the size of the wick I showed her. She seems pretty interesting in spinning some for me to try as a wick, and what is cool is that I can customize it by making it thicker, thinner, looser, more tightly wound, more braids or less, etc. But the best part is, I'll know exactly what has been done to it. She has also sourced both hemp and bamboo as well, though she tells me those will be more difficult to work with since they have to be spun wet. Still, would you go cotton, hemp, bamboo, or something else entirely? What do you think? Worth a shot? Or would it just make more sense to try to source some premade?

Short answer. Try some premade. $1.00 for 100% cotton sterile gauze to start. :>)

Check this out...

cotton-process.jpg

Kind of hard to see clearly but it gives you an idea of the processes involved with our cotton of choice...I really love cheese cloth now (or more likely the thread that comes out of it for the Quigsticks)...basically I wanted to see what processes where done in the making of sewing thread (save myself some time)...as you may see there's bleaching and gassing (whatever that is but it doesn't sound that nummy)...I think that because of the "food grade" requirement of cheese cloth I'll be sticking with that....

I actually found mine in the Arts/Crafts Section at Wally-World, and it was $4 and some change for a huge package of it.

Safeway in Canada sells 2 square yards for $3.75...2-3 packs of that and a couple 150' rolls of 32 Kanthal and bring on the Zombies...

I've considered stocking up on wick material, Kanthal, etc., in keeping with my gallon of PG, etc. While it seems like a good idea, I wonder where the market will move after Chinese New Year next. Could it be that something, as of yet unknown supercedes wick 'n wire? In the mean time, I have 5 yards of #2 square candle wick coming...$3 shipped on eBay. I meant to look for cheesecloth while at WalMart today, but hey, some neurons didn't fire correctly.

Maybe, but there's only so many ways to vaporize Propylene Glycol and Glycerine, but hey, I'm all for a new way to skin a cat...in the mean time, the $20 investment into disposables seems a safe bet ;)

That candle wick is great. Make sure to do a double with it. Wicks better with 2 at the top of Ody.

You're right. I hand noticed that the Echo Crystal Vision cartos were on sale again over the weekend. Whle bending over today, mod in shirt pocket fell out and broke the carto...sheared off at the point at the bottom of the metal ring. I checked the sale at Nhaler. It seems it was only for the weekend. That's okay. I've got 3 1/2 now in use and 4 that are still in their wrappers. If nothing else, I'll have some replacement parts.

I'd like to try the oil lamp wick mentioned by blackwater in post #2036.
