To late, went with 6 (double pin, 1.7 coil)...it's what seemed to lay nice in the Ody's ceramic slots (and thinking swell)...it's pretty early but I can already tell the bamboo is a little less "in your face" as far as TH, warmer, mellower but the overall taste is about the same as CC, though it would be less hassle to build (if I didn't have a bunch of pre made CC wick)...see how it goes long term

3 to 7 days not a problem

Seems I'll be eating a big ol' piece of humble pie for supper tonight boys...this bamboo is fantastic...it's just so much more, what's the word?...sublime than the CC, ya, that's it...it's smooth, warm, as Cyrus said, earthy...it doesn't bang and pop like the CC, the TH is there but not beating you over the head...it doesn't wick as fast as the CC imo but it gently lets you know when you're demanding too much from it with a slightly woody taste on the exhale...very impressed...

fine, you guys where right, and I hate you all for it but thanks :p... this may be my new Ody/Penny medium...:toast:

OK, now I'm curious. Is this the same bamboo crochet thread others have used? I think its aunt lydia's if I'm not mistaken?

Yup, Aunt Lydia's #10

Flow is wide open...reminds me of running rolled...7 strands may be the sweet spot, but ya, the DH isn't too bad with this stuff...reminds me of camping

Glad to hear it's working for you! :) I've been using that stuff for a month or so, now, and it seems to be all that I want in a wick material. I also prefer the taste of the bamboo quite a bit over cotton. Goes quite nicely with tobacco flavors.

The best thing about this stuff, to me, is that the performance of every rebuild comes out the same, as long as I use the same number of threads and keep the coil dimensions relatively consistent. For some reason, I could not get quite that consistency with cotton thread.

That earthy taste is good for a change but IMO the bamboo doesn't last as long as the candle wick or gauze.

I agree, reasonable lifespan is important but I'm rebuilding my CC'd Ody and Penny every 4 days or so now so anything beyond that is a bonus.
