The description for the charger says it will work for my 14500 battery's but when I charged them the first time it only took an hour but the instructions for the charger say 3.5 hours. It also says that it charges at a rate of 600mah so the time is on par if I under stand it right. What has me worried is that the battery's seemed too warm for comfort by the time the green lights came on. Here is a link to the charger and then the Battery's. Any thoughts or info would help. I dont want a fire ball. Thanks.

Well almost every battery I ever bought are usually at about ~3.8V (more or less). So in effect it's more like a 'topping off'.

What has me worried is that the battery's seemed too warm for comfort by the time the green lights came on
Well not familiar with the PILA, but if in fact it's charging at 600mAh that may be a tad high for standard 14500s.

If multiple 14500s are coming off the charger 'too warm' I'd be a tad concerned. The thing you will have to determine is the charger just getting warm and transferring some heat to the 14500, or is the charging process actually internally heating the 14500.

You could at least test the voltage with a meter. $5-$10 ones work just fine

I have meters but where you saying to test the the charger as its charging? I tested them before and after putting them on that charger and to start they had 3.73V and when done they said 4.18. Its a 3.7V battery. It charged for like 30 minutes that time and ended up with the 4.18V. Both battery's are always no more then 0.01V apart.

Maybe the charger is malfunctioning? I would not use batts that come off a charger too hot. I just went thru this on a new charger and it over heated IMR's I was charging, they both ended up with discolored spots on negative side of batts, I returned them for replacements. bnrk

The charger is fine. All the numbers add up but the 14500 is the smallest battery they say can be charged with it. Since its such a small battery and the charge rate is so high making it heat up I am being paranoid, or should I be paranoid?
