Regulations are something that most of us have been expecting for some time now. It is unfortunate, however, that they have been cast in such a way to cater to large companies, particularly when the industry has been built by a myriad of smaller players. Perhaps the history of large tobacco companies has made governments believe this is the only way to monitor and control such "dangerous" substances; or perhaps a large bureaucracy can only conceive of negotiating with large companies who can afford soft, plush surroundings and high-priced lobbyists. Regardless, the situation has clarified two things in my mind that I knew already but had hoped they were merely the musings of my conspiracy-mongering mind:

1) The entire system has been suborned by money. We expect it from rapacious corporations. We also expect it from greedy politicians (although why we continue to vote for such people I will never know). But the fact that so many "public health" organizations have come out against vaping so that they can protect their government grants and non-profit fundraising is extremely disheartening. I used to be one of those who, while not a "bleeding heart," nevertheless at least gave some consideration to the messages that such groups gave (albeit with a grain of salt) and sometimes even was swayed by the endorsements of some of the groups whose messages resonated with my own. Now, I approach nearly all non-profits with utter skepticism--and have complete disdain for those who have been some of the most vocal opponents in our fight.

2) The United States continues to cling to the Puritan values brought to its shores more than 300 years ago. We pride ourselves in our pluralistic society and a culture that respects religious differences, but, somehow, cannot seem to shake the moral rectitude held by one religious group that arrived all those years ago. The message seems to be that giving up a vice cannot be fun or easy--it must be difficult and painful, otherwise what is to prevent others from falling into ways of sin? That Public Health has long followed the practice of harm reduction for scourges such as intravenous drug use, but somehow cannot see its way to enact a similar regard to a substance that is inhaled seems, to me, to lead back to this strange sense of moralism that pervades this country. We will respect the right of other to believe different things--just so long as not a wisp of it escapes from their mouths.

Response to point 2. Really, the U.S. continues to cling to the Puritan values brought to its shores more than 300 years ago? What a bunch of crap, countboredom. Please explain to the audience, what group brought on Prohibition? And then explain to the audience the group that brought the "war on drugs." And then explain to the audience what group brought on political correctness, and the origins of political correctness. Puritan values, really? What you are really attacking are Christians. Stop with the veiled attack.

Response to point 1. Save some ink count! What took you 100 words I can do in 2: crony capitalism.

Sigh...
1. Heaven gifts has great prices and really great contests except one's like this where you have to jump through hoops to even have a chance at winning, the end.

P.S. I am a previous winner of a hg contest. I just don't like the format.

can you specify the format you don't like? I would appreciate and improve
