You can always dual or triple boot
I do it on all my machines
I mainly use linux for anything but games its much safer to browse with and it has enough programs for me to do anything but games

I just prefer compromising for that one system to do it all rather than find the perfect system for every job. I don't want to risk forgetting to boot up the right system when going to bed, etc. Or having to reboot to do this one thing I forgot, etc. In practical terms, if my 'puter is not running, my media grabber stops and I get woken up by an annoying alarm from my Squeezebox rather than nice, soothing music :D

To be honest, I have considered dualbooting on my portable, but I have been a bit hesitant for two reasons: 1: it's very close to Win10 release. 2: I'm still in the "planning stages" of how to back it up and repartition, etc. (Read: finding excuses to extend laziness)

I do play around some with Virtualbox, tho. Nice being able to run a full-screen OS on a secondary screen. Probably more about geek satisfaction than practical needs/uses. Currently checking out Mint 17 with it.

You know the silliest "perk" of using Virtualbox ever? When the guest OS idles for a few minutes - the monitor it runs on dims and shows a simple clock. Oh the brilliance :D

The biggest problem with windows is security
Thats what drove me to linux
With windows I was running 4 security devices and got a virus on a innocent site
With linux even on bad sites I hit by accident Im 99% safe

Dual booting with Mint is a breeze it will let you decide in simple terms how to partician and choose how much space for for each os

As for backup its as simple as copying the home folder to save it to a flash drive and when restoring just copy and paste back to home folder

The backup part is more me grasping for straws, trying to postpone the process :p
At some point I will back up the restore partition - which I should have done and deleted a long time ago. That's my problem; I don't find the same joy in just tinkering with computers anymore. Maybe they've gotten too good and too much of a general appliance. Or maybe I got shellshocked from working as life support on one of them aging, dying Win98/XP (and ME!) small-company no-budget networks. :p

Got bored and updated both my 'puters. Had more issues than expected, but nothing too major. Some issues in trying to initiate the download - but that should be no problem now.

My Yoga said it would not keep my apps as I "tried to install a different language than current installation". Thought it was fine and I'd lose my (lack of) Modern UI apps. Took a gamble. Not much to lose anyway. Turns out it flushed my Program Files folders while at it. No big deal. Not like it's usually loaded with fancy software.

My desktop was a bit more hesitant. Got a message about not being able to install to this system - no further explanation. Turns out, after a few years of updates and such, the 100mb "Data" partition used by Win7/8+ boot was full. Some clean-up and all is well.

Liking it so far. Little things such as the new Task View is just excellent. So good it's bound to a mouse button. Wouldn't hurt with a good ol' list-o-apps in the Start Menu, but it'll do. I'm no big fan of this "Recently Used" and all that. I want my lists to stay in order and include stuff I don't use all the time. Certainly no big deal, lol.

Windows 10 is better than some previous versions for sure. Windows XP was great, then came the infamous Vista, Windows 7 was a great operating system again, Windows 8 was good but not great and now we have this version which I received a free upgrade too. This system is not without faults though. For starters, I cannot get Cortana to work right. Also, the update system will download, install and RESTART your computer with NO warning. There is probably a way to change this, but I am just not sure how. I love it, but I also hate it. I want the option to have the windows 8 tile screen in addition to the start menu
