Last night's weather forecast was for some pretty cold temperatures headed our way - highs in the 40's. That got me to thinking, what do y'all do when you need flavors and other liquids in the middle of winter. Do you order away and thaw out the frozen bottles when you get home from work (if the bottles haven't cracked by then)?

Right now, my plan is to stock up in early December so as to ride out the winter. But what if I spill my favorite bottle or want to try a new flavor that didn't come to mind until January? Never had to deal with this type of thing with analogs, that's for sure.

If there is no water in the liquids you are buying there would not be expansion when frozen if the liquid could be frozen.

Not sure why folks thing all liquids are like water, but water is rather unusual in that it expands as it freezes. Most everything else contracts as it freezes.

And it has to get colder than most winter days here in Indiana to freeze PG or alcohol. (the most common flavoring carrier liquids)

Yah, and it is the water I am worried about. Two of the flavors on my list are PA's Peppermint and Blueberry Extra which are suspended in both PG and water. The percentages of water and PG is not stated on the website and even if it is, I don't know at what percent (at any given temperature) would cause a problem.

I thought this thread would be about Game of Thrones. :glare:

LOL same here!

As far as a pg and water suspension freezing, I think it would all depend on the percentage of water content. You could test it out in your freezer, if you are willing to possibly sacrifice a bottle of flavoring in the name of science. If it doesn't freeze though, you would know you have nothing to worry about.

Duuhhh, why didn't I think of that! I don't have any Blueberry Extra but I will put a mil or so of Peppermint in the freezer right now and report back. Thanks.

Actually the mix of water and PG should be great for resisting freezing. I know I've never had an issue with either of those flavors arriving in good condition regardless of season.

I worry about the bubble wrap not holding up to the badly packaged bowling balls sitting on the shelf above in the truck.

And while we're on the subject of freezing, I heard that unscrupulous bowlers have been known to freeze their balls before a competition as it hardens them enough to get better pin action.

If my balls were frozen the last thing I'd be thinking about is bowling.

Well, I put 2ml of PA Peppermint into a 4ml glass bottle and put it in the freezer for a few hours. I am pleased to report that the liquid got a bit thicker but it did not freeze. This is great news although it still may be a good idea to keep a loose eye on the weather forecast so as to avoid ordering during the few times each winter that it seems to get obscenely cold - the kind of cold that even the oil in your car seems to be near frozen when trying to start it.

watched a program on bush pilots in Alaska, they use PG to deice their planes. PG and VG will get thicker but won't freeze until you hit -36 degrees F for VG and PG has a pour point (stops pouring)of <-71 degrees F. I think you're o.k. I keep my VG/PG stored in the freezer and it still pours.
Just another reason I moved to Florida, I don't have to trouble my mind about the freezing points of my liquids.
