Test methodology: I built each coil with the same ID 4mm and width 8.4mm. Measured out 5ml of 70vg and vaped through it using timed 4 second puffs at 66W. Puffs were taken in sets of three. Each puff was marked down so I could count how many puffs it took to vape the 5ml. Then I divided 5ml by the number of puffs.

All tests done twice at 66 Watts on a Velocity rda.
All coils made with Kanthal A1
Radiator coils have equivalent surface area of a 4mm ID x 8.4mm Wide round coil.

The left side is the most vapor produced, the right is the least vapor produced.

The left side is the cooler puff, right side is the warmest puff

Is the quenching needed, or just done so you can get the vid done in a reasonable time? (Obviously the coil and rods will be hot for some time! ;) )

And would it vape better if quenched in, say, the blood of the FDA?

I quench the wire to keep it from forming a thick oxide layer. You could cool it slowly in a oxygen free environment if you wanted it really soft. ;)

Would you vape on a coil dipped in that toxic quagmire? o_O

I hope you didn't do all this in one sitting :D

Great job and explained very well.

Thanks, I've been working on this since June 27th.

Do you have a theory on the parallel vs radiator?

I suspect the radiator is more aerodynamic allowing better airflow across the coil.
You are correct. Given the same circumference the radiator shape has less than half the drag coefficient of a round coil.

Well, no, but I'd get a lot of satisfaction anyway!!

I suspect the same or similar oxide layer would form on kanthal w/o quenching? (Note to self: put water and vodka in different shaped glasses when trying this.)

I am genuinely curious about this test but more importantly I don't care what the results are. So many people have said SS acts differently than Kanthal. Heats up faster or slower, different flavor etc.

With this testing protocol I'm getting very consistent results +/- 0.0002mL/puff resolution. So if there is a diference this should find it.

Starting off the flavor and the heat is about the same as the 28ga Kanthal round build. Having done this 14 times with the same juice I'm getting pretty honed in.

Let the game begin :)
