Wire Composition discussion

I want to try something other than Kanthal, but I don't want to be inhaling lead fumes and other noxious chemicals from wires other than kanthal. With things like Royal, Nuke/boom wires, Gplat, Nicrome and anything else used. I am curious to what would be safe to use and would not. I didn't begin vaping to not know exactly what I was putting in my body. So please I would in-courage an open discussion and information about these other wires out there available, quality price, ect. I want more surface area for less resistance! faster heat up time!

Well i don't know about any of those specialty wires, but kanthal A1 and nichrome60 both have iron in them. Nichrome80 doesn't have iron.

Nope, not at all. I would love to hear some real scientific measurements of how much of these metals make it into my vape. Kanthal has Aluminum in it. Alzheimer's anyone?

The problem is nobody is doing these tests, so nobody really knows. Most would prefer not to know.

I've always figured that burning the coil red before using should oxidize off anything that's going to oxidize off, and then you're done with it. I also make sure NOT to inhale the fumes off the first dry-burn or torching...like, I do it OUTSIDE. Alzheimer's anyone?

Great thread, but you won't get any real answers I'm afraid...

edit: I'm not so concerned about Iron getting into my bloodstream, for (what should be) obvious reasons. Lead/Aluminum/Manganese (g-plat) are definitely a concern

The safest wire would have to be titanium. It is completely benign and non-reactive. That's one of the reasons it's used in implants, bone screws, etc.
Beware if you try to buy titanium wire, though, since "Titanium" is also used as a color. For example, these:
28 Gauge Titanium Parawire | Fusion Beads
1mm Titanium WireLace Ribbon | Fusion Beads

Look like they're titanium, but they're color-coated copper.

Nichrome80 would seem to be the second best. Stainless steel should also be very safe, but it doesn't taste that good due to the iron content. Likewise for Nichrome60.

Kanthal has aluminum in it which may not be the best.

Lowest I would rank all the "Mystery" wires like g-plat and Royal, since there's no info provided on what's in them.

Iron in the bloodstream isn't as concerning because it's already there to start, the hemoglobin in your blood (molecule that carries oxygen in red blood cells) is 4 components surrounding an iron molecule, your body has ways to process and use small amounts of iron, it's also a normal part of your diet.
