I've read a lot of threads about freezing nicotine. I know that most say to put in glass bottles. I received a 120ml bottle of nic base today from WL. My plan was to transfer to glass but geez is this stuff packaged well! It's wrapped in bubble wrap, then has three sealed plastic bags on it. I am so tempted to just stick it in the freezer as-is. I am assuming that the bottle is plastic. I've never ordered my nic from WL, so I don't know what kind of bottle it's in.

Bad idea?

IMHO, its a good idea. i had the same quandary as you when i received my WL nic several months ago. i just couldnt tear open that package. it was done up too well for me to mess with. plus i wanted as little oxygen getting to my nic as possible. opening the bottle would have increased oxygen, plus i would have never been able to seal 'er up that nicely again. so i just popped 'er in the freezer. done and done. if plastic is good enough for WL, its good enough for me.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea but on their site WL says for long term storage to use a glass bottle with an airtight cap.

That's what I do for 2 reasons:
1. I want to check it when I receive it to make sure it's good quality.
2. I buy 500ml and want it packaged in smaller bottles. I put mine in 60ml Amber glass bottles with polycone caps. I keep one out to work from and store the others in the freezer in a clean, empty 3lb margarine container. They fit perfectly.

Not telling you what to do, just relaying what I do.

Cheers,
Steve

I think the glass is better. The nic may leach out bad stuff in the plastic in the long term.
Also as mentioned above, I like to look at the nic, and to smell it, to make sure all is ok.
I buy 500-1000ml's at a time and store in 120ml bottles.

Also there is a WL thread going, where you might get more info, and more visibility for your questions.

Wow I didn't know you guys kept your nic sealed up like this or even in freezers. I have always left my nic in a plastic bottle in a dark cabinet with the cap on tight and that's it. I have never noticed an affect on my juices doing this. Is super sealed storage important enough to maybe change my ways?

Ya know, Muggs, I've only had one order from Wizard, but they did send a handling and storage data sheet. It's not in front of me at the moment, but their recommendation was for storage at something like 34 to 41 degrees F. No mention of freezing. They also like dark glass bottles. Just my opinion, but I would store the stuff in the refrigerator. Somewhere down where you keep the lettuce. My suggestion would be to decant into glass for long term storage, but with a bottle size that would be filled nearly to the top to eliminate as much air as possible.

Way down in the south the nic turns to mud. That's no lie.

I met with the folks at Wizard Labs last month when I got my first order of equipment. Since I was at the facility and didn't order prior to going in I had to get my nicotine in what they call an "orphan" (they don't pre-mix nicotine until you order it, if someone makes an order and they prepare, then the person ordering changes their mind they keep the nicotine in a special area for future orders, hence the notice on their site that it takes 3-5 days to prepare an order for nicotine). The only orphan they had that day was a 500ml bottle of 100mg nicotine. I purchased it and John, the owner, told me to transfer into glass bottles for longer term storage. They are very comfortable with short term storage in the plastic bottles they ship in, but in my case, that much nicotine will last me for a couple of years or more. He recommended transferring it to glass bottles (120ml bottles), putting them inside a plastic baggy and freezing until needed. I currently have three 120ml glass bottles in the freezer and am using what's left in the original plastic bottle.

I thought it was a good idea to go with the method recommended by the guy that makes and sells the stuff... BTW: great folks to deal with there...

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know you are all correct about the glass. I just hate taking it out of the great packaging. lol. I do have a food sealer so I can vacuum pack it in bags. It's thicker plastic anyway. I've cut my nic level to 6mg, so it takes me a while to use it. I think I will go with 60ml bottles.

I was looking at 60 ml and 30 ml bottles today, like the blue ones. Need something to hold the bottles though, since I don't have margarine tubs.

haha ok here is what I have going on. WL in freezer with the bag it came in. the open bag sealed in a different bag from being previously used and re froze. a bunch of 30 ml ejuice4u is glass in the freezer. 500 ml ejuice4u in glass in freezer. filling cart for VT nic and getting glass for them. and 300 + ml of base made and out for use . so its pretty random . Im trying to cover all the bases lol.

Just remember to shake it up well before you decant it into the smaller bottles!

No need to post personal concern if there is no data to back it. Leaching has yet to be proven in all but a few types of plastics under specific conditions. Freezer greatly reduces molecular activity thus reducing any chance of leaching/oxidation or other concerns.

I Do store mine in Glass jars, not Dark - there is no light in the Freezer - but only after I need to open the original container for use. With several years of Nic stored, I see no need to open each and sample while further exposing to Oxygen and further oxidation.

FWIW, I use shoe boxes in my top-loader freezer. Many shoe boxes are just the right heighth for 120 ml. cobalt-blue glass bottles.

I actually ordered a dozen 60 ml amber with poly caps, a dozen blue 30 ml with drippers (for mixing), and some labels. The shoe box idea sounds great. Since I'd don't go over 6mg, and DIY usually 3 mg, 24 mg/ml or 48 mg/ml should last me long time for the zombie apocalypse (oops, like vaping to the walking dead).

My neighbors are starting to get interested, I've stockpiled quite a few kanger coils, some silica (need more), kanthal, cotton yarn, plan on buying a tank every month or so, save up for battery mods, use itaste vv 3.0's to extend life of my two MVPs (all cheap on eBay, they starting to run out of mini protank 2s, don't make run for it). Need more base for my nic, then just buy flavors.
