Wondering if I borked my battery

So I was trying to clean my batteries/carts this morning, and I may have been a little over-zealous with the cleaning of the battery. I had a little metal pin thing for hanging stuff on cloth walls (office partitions we use at work) and would wrap it with some paper towel, and then use that to clean stuff. I was doing around the little circle part of my battery (automatic) and may have used a little too much force or something and the circle part moved. When I put on a cartomizer and try to draw, I see the LED light up, but nothing from the cartomizer. It doesn't charge either, so it confirmed my inital guess that it's no longer making a connection. Just wondering if I should dispose of it, or if it's possible to fix it? Lesson learned either way.

I used T-Pins all the time too (haha, that's what they're called). I don't do the whole paper towel thing though. I just use it to scrape off the crud. Maybe you just pushed the post in a little. Try prying it back out just a hair. Use it like a lever, and just gently try to work it back up from all sides...not too much, or that post will be loose forever (like what happened to my sky blue batt)....or you can adjust the post on the carto every time you use that batt...

I clicked on this, cuz I just HAD to find out what "borked" means!

So just to clarify, aside from solid crud, do I need to worry about cleaning out around that post on the battery (like if some of the juice happens to get in there)? T-Pins... I would've never guessed, even though now it seems so completely obvious haha

You do need to clean in there. I use a plastic toothpick with a tissue. Yo can also use a toothbrush that has been dipped and shaken with alcohol. That works well

Well I was about to say I'll be fine, as I was just going to order some more. Another co-worker wants me to order a starter kit for her. Every person at work so far who's noticed I wasn't smoking a cigarette and asked about it has asked me to order one for them (even though I explain that they could just order it online themselves haha), so I was just going to order some more when I put in her order.

Apparently today is just not my day though, I had a 78mm auto and a 78mm manual left after I broke this one and literally 2 minutes ago my other auto has become difficult to activate (I have to suck on it pretty hard before it turns on). Any ideas if it's possible to fix this? I tried poking the air holes, and it helped, but not much. When I suck I get plenty of air, just no vapour...

You can, but it's really just about getting rid of the hardened black crud in there, and unblocking the air holes, so that you can make room for enough air in there (oh, yeah. Don't forget to poke the air holes. On auto batts, there are the two on the threads, and I think two more on the post bottom that you have to feel around for through the ones on the threads). A dry, clear, crud-free channel = more air in there. Doesn't have to be pristine, just crud-free and dry. I usually just pour a little alcohol in the cap, swish it around with the batt, then shake and wipe it dry, but I hear alcohol wipes from WalMart are really good to have around. Use them like you would the paper towel. They're stronger, thinner, lint-free, and pre-dampened with alcohol. Alcohol is good for getting rid of the juice film that forms on the posts, which also obstructs contact. Water works fine too, but alcohol dries faster.

Oh, and wipe down the post on the charger too (with an alcohol-dampened Q-Tip or something) while you're at it.

But the one you "borked" should be an easy fix, right?

Oh, one more thing to check: remove the ashcap to make sure you don't have dust bunnies in there. This, and clearing the holes on the bottom of the posts, might improve your activation issue with that second auto.

Clean you threads really well. In my experience, clogged air holes give a tight draw, but dirty threads (both battery and carto) give a very airy draw. Also, is the carto filled. A very airy draw is one sign of an empty carto.
Clean the posts of the battery and carto with a touch of alcohol (l actually use alcohol wipes for the threads, but even a clean cloth will work). And I know this may scare you, but check the post height if the battery, if you just cleaned it, ou am have noshed it down too much, which can result in a bad connection. If all that doesn't work, break off the tip of a toothpick in one of the air holes on the battery (just the very tip). That will give a tighter draw.

PM me your address and I will mail you a battery to get you by until your order from SI comes in.

I don't post very often, but I read the forum regularly, and I really enjoy & learn from your posts & videos Mroutlaw. Thank you for taking the time to pull things apart, try new things that someone like me isn't capable of, or doesn't have the tools or time for. :)

I just wanted to pick your brain on this toothpick in an air hole. I have a brand new battery that I don't use as it's very airy. So airy I just lose flavor etc, so I just put it one side, but it would be handy to have it as a couple of my older ones are lasting a little less time now lol. Is there another way of blocking up one air hole on my new airy battery? I don't really want to try this a brand new one in case I mess it up altogether. Thanks! :)

Thanks for the offer Mroutlaw, I really appreciate it. However my CE3 order came in yesterday, and I'm not sure why, but I don't have any issues with that battery when I use the CE3 carts for some reason that's beyond me. I've got a charger at home and in my office, so I just charge one battery at all times so I've always got one that's good to go when I need it, so I'll be okay until my next order arrives.

For the record, I'm loving the CE3s! :D

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it! (And the offer Mroutlaw, I was never expecting that kind of generosity!)

Then it's definitely the post on the battery. At least you know it's still connected to the wire.
