As I am sure many of you know I have been looking for a VV 3.0 - 6.0 unit that I could turn. It actually keeps me up at night.
I might be able to put acrylic and possibly stabilized wood on a lave tube and others with a similar design.
The blank would be drilled and turned first. After that it would be attached to the tube of the unit. I am thinking a little silicon or something. I am not really sure what would be the best to use. Basically I want the acrylic to stay put when the person is using it, however I want to be able to remove the acrylic from the tube for refinishing if needed.
The only downside that I can see is that there will be a very small gap between the tube and the acrylic. I don't think it will have the seamless look like the current mods.

As always please let me know if you have any ideas that may help.

the biggest roadblock I see is the buttons :(

that acrylic looks AWESOME and the tip to!

I wonder if you could cut a SS LT and then just glue it back together.
I thought about cutting one and trying to find some threads that I could press in or even tap the tube and have a addapter. The problem is I am not that good with metal. Cutting, grinding and welding mild steel on cars is about all I know how to do. I really don't want to try that with my only lava tube. Even if I had a bunch of them any mistake would be costly :(

Thanks :)

I was planning on cutting the acrylic the same distance from the cap to about 1/8" below the switch. All the buttons and the top part would not have any acrylic, just the bottom half. On a stainless LT I might be able to also work with the top section.

Hopefully this will get rid of the slight color problems I have been having

I got this in the mail today (Thanks Lewis!) and it looks amazing. I'm waiting on some new cartos for the tank so I can put it all back together, but I'll post pics of the entire setup once those come in.

Lewis, thank you for the awesome work once again! And Eric, thank you for providing the world with Lewis' wood mods! You both ROCK! :D

Thanks so much for holding onto the York gum- I don't get paid for two more weeks but I'll definitely be in touch with you and Eric re a cone - actually a shorter one would be kind of better :) and then you could make a xl3 for someone else... If I don't cave in myself ;)
Not a problem. I will go ahead and make the cone out of york gum. If the cone and the tank get finished with out any problems I will make the XL3 tube.

Eric are you planning on selling the SS LT?

In the suppliers private forum there is a lot of discussion on this, the consensus is that it was a special run, will not be done again and some are questioning the validity of the SS claim. Plus they used chrome ends on it which do not match.

So I think I will be staying away, the chrome is a different animal though and I am waiting for the next version :)

Excellent! It'll be fun to have the tube/tank/tip/cone combo pack! I can't commit 100% to the xl3, but I'm hoping you'll be able to sell it through Eric if I can't (also waiting to hear about my contract getting renewed). Can't wait to see the beauty!
Hopefully you will get your contract renewed.
I am happy to hold the xl3 for as long as you like if you have interest. For a set it is best to make all the pieces out of the same blank so they match. A different piece of york gum burl won't match your set like this piece.

Hahaha- love the beer holes! Also, Lewis- you rock - that said it sadly probably would not be till aug that I could go all in for the xl3 (if my contract gets renewed, I'm still required to take July off [so they don't have to pay benefits... But hey, any job these days is something to be very grateful for] so I do need to be a little bit careful with money for a while. If you don't mind holding on that long- I'm ALL over getting the xl3 a bit down the line --- but, that said I'd also feel a bit like jerk making you wait that long when I know you could sell it in no time. That's quite a long time for your efforts not to get rewarded (ps - you should totally be charging way more for these - they really are works of art!) so I'll leave it up to you if you still want to offer to hold it that long. Thanks again, so much!

Here is what my PV/beer holder is looking like. It just needs felt in the beer holes. I can't wait to put beer in it and laugh at my cat trying to knock the bottle over. The artist said that the holes for beer are a pain to drill and that she won't be making one this large again.

You should make some of those to sell. I would like one minus the beer holders and with about twenty holes for different size PV's, juice cartos batteries ect.:2cool:

Very nice :D
Thank you for the picture

Nice buglen!!!

Thanks! I'll take the credit for having the good sense to buy it, but all the other credit (and my thanks) goes to Lewis and Eric for putting these out in the world. I've put a single coil resurrector carto @ 1.7ohms in the tank and it's been hitting real nice for the last few days.
