It's been working great so far, but to be honest it's the first tank/carto setup I've used so I've nothing to compare it to functionally. Filling it is interesting when you can't see how much juice is in the tank until it gets near the top, but I believe I've worked out a good method for that. Now I just need to load up on some replacement cartos and o-rings so it's always in operational order.

I think the only thing that would make your mods better is if you knew someone who worked with tempered glass or ceramics that could replace all the metal parts. Now THAT would be an extremely hot mod! :D

I was looking for clear plastic caps, but I couldn't find any tanks that had these. Glass would would be even cooler. Does anyone know someone that makes glass caps?

I was hoping that you would eventually be making PVs of this stuff. The colors can be fantastical in it! I have seen pens and such made of acrylic and they are quite lovely.

It is actually Eric's fault that there is a acrylic option now. It seems to be impossible to get Red Sox colors in wood :D
But in acrylic..

They also have Dolphins colors that Eric seemed to liked as well.

These also seem to be readily available unlike some of the burls.

I can't help thinking that if word really got out on his mods we'd never see Lewis again, he'd be stuck on the lathe all day :)

Well, I'm trying to get the word out as best as I can! :D

I'm guessing that items such as this will always be a niche market, but it would be nice if we could help Lewis become financially independent.

I've known Lewis for a short time but my general feeling and from what I know, he does this to make buyers happy and not for any personal gain, so I am not sure he'd be interested in selling 1000 mods a month LOL, sort of like me, if you get too busy, quality and customer service inevitably goes down. He's only one person after all. :)

(but he'd probably try)

Yep, I get that. My brother is an EE who started a small business of building stomp box pedals for electric guitar and bass, and he's very particular about product quality. I manage the web site and the waiting lists for him and there are hundreds of people waiting for one pedal or another to be available, and the requests are growing each month. It's a lot of pressure for one person to keep up with demand of a popular product, but then not being mass produced is part of the quality the product brings to the market.

My point about financial independence is this: If I can enjoy the great work of an artist like Lewis and help him pay the bills at the same time, I'm more than happy to do so. :D

In love with my new beauty! If sir LG has more York gum burl, I'm totally getting ASAP! Love, love, love it!
*totally getting a custom tank asap :) thanks guys! You're a dream team! I love it!
Happy to hear that you like it!
I have a 1.5 x 7.5 chunk of york gum which is the what is left from your mod. If I remember correctly it does not have any more of the lighter color in it. You got the best piece.
It is also not stabilized. Cones and tanks should be fine. A drip tip might swell. I do seal them inside and out with CA so it might not. I really don't know.
If you want a drip tip feel free to order. If you have issues with it and it doesn't work I will be happy to send you the $20 back. (*note for all other orders drip tips still require stabilized wood until this is tested)

Just keep in mind this is all Lewis's work. :)

I like yours a lot because it looks like an iris on fire.
Some of this stuff is also Eric's ideas. He has more cool ideas that I am still trying to get to. He keeps a eye out for new e-cig units to make as well. I can't wait until he finds a 3.0-6.0 VV that I can turn on the lathe.

Everyone contributes to the ideas for new units, improvements and ideas. I am extremely lucky and grateful for this! :D

I have a real job that pays the bills.
This is a hobby. The money I make pays for wood/acrylic, supplies and tools.
If I charged enough to pay my bills you all would laugh at me. Then only the rich people would be ever be able to afford one which would not be cool. The amount that would sell would also be really small and then I couldn't play on the lathe.

If I do get to many orders the waiting time will just get longer which is alright with me. I am happy to try and keep up but I am just one person that does this part time.
I also go on vacation for 3+ weeks in July/August. 9000ft at alpine lakes I can't wait :D

Well back to the real job, I have a door to hang.

Oh holy moly... Lewis, that's just phenomenal looking! I don't know alpine lakes area... is there climbing up there, or is it just a high altitude area? That photo is like heaven. And call me crazy, I'm thinking if you did this for a living, and had to crank out x number of units to meet the monthly nut, you'd be able to tell the difference in the passion you put into them. Clearly, you've got a little love affair with wood going on, and I think that's what I love about them so much. lol

I meant any 9000ft alpine lake. I am not exactly sure where I am going this year yet.
The picture is Strawberry Lake, CA in Sierra National Forest. There is climbing in the area. There is also a 4x4 trail going to this lake and not a hiking trail. Here is a review I did of the trail. Gentry Off Road - California - Sierra National Forest - Strawberry Lake OHV - By whokrz

If I had to make these 40 hours a week I think the quality would stay the same, but I don't think it would be fun anymore.

Lewis I know you mostly hike the Sierras but have you ever backpacked into the Trinity Alps up near Weaverville? They have some great Alpine Lakes too and well worth checking out if you have never been there.
:tumble:
I actually took a 1 week backpacking trip up there last year. Very nice area!
