The attraction for me is wood. Each one is unique. There's no two Reo Woods that are the same. Wood is grown from mother earth and to me that counts for something. There's no smelting, forging and mining involved. Somewhere on this earth many years ago a seed got very lucky. It found its spot where it could flourish, grow and be happy. That seems to be how the natural world works without man's intervention. Because of this, its beautiful. Nature creates beauty that man can not match. Look around, take a walk. Take in the sky and clouds and stand by a river. So thats what is at the core of a woodvil for me.

There are several other features of the woodville that I prefer over a metal Reo. I spend time where its 57 degrees this time of year. When I pick up my Grand it cold. The wood while its not warm is definitely not cold. I also like the size and shape better. It fits my hands well and is more rounded so for me its more comfortable. The button is an asset. Its either on or off and its placement makes for really natural, ergonomic feel. The woods are lighter. My Woodville is about 20% lighter. Filing points and Noalox are never needed. Flat top and nipple tops both work equally as well. Its rugged enough for daily use so I have no hesitation taking it out and about with me. Its all about the wood. Wood is good.

There are advantages to the metal Reos over the woods but thats another story.

And this from someone who went for what 3 years with just metal!!! It really takes owning one to get it. I mean to really GET it!

at first I really didn't get the attraction. I'm more of a metalworking kind of guy, I'd rather get a piece of metal in my eye occasionally then have to deal with saw dust. don't know why but I just hate sawdust, and I never really appreciated woodworking in general and never appreciated the wood mods. to me it seemed that anyone can shape a piece of wood but metal on the other hand, that takes specialty equipment and is much more durable, why would anyone rather have wood....

but then I really looked at them, and then looked at them some more, and the more I looked the more they grew on me. I started to look at the different kinds of woods and well what can I say, I finally winded up developing an appreciation for them and now I really want a nice one. I guess I finally decided that it's ok to have a mod that is not the kind of mod that I can abuse the hell out of. this one will be more likely to stay home work days and be my "dress up" mod for weekends or just around the house. I now look at the wood mods as almost as fine jewelry or a dress up accessory rather than just as a tool like all my other mods.

another thing is, I don't really love most mechs when it comes to contact issues and degrading contacts but the woody is wired with an electric button so this won't really have the same kinds of constant degrading contacts that many mechs have. I will probably convert mine to electronic ignition eventually anyway but a wired mod like this will probably need less maintenance and be a bit more reliable with less misfires and contact issues. hell a little creative rewiring with 20 gauge and a higher amperage button and this thing can be made into a real beast in the voltage drop department. I know rob is planning to eventually build a full mech woody but honestly even a wired woody can be made that will handle high amperage, only need to upgrade the wiring and the button. if you can solder then you can hotrod these woods to sub ohm great.

The one thing I will add to this thread is that I will not be battling you great people on the 28th. Why? Well, because I taste the wood too much in my vapor. I hate to say it, but it's true. I fell in love with the wood REOs more than a year ago and I was battling for a long time on VVW sale night. I counted down the days, then hours, as you all are doing now. It was so exciting. I bugged my friend to let me come over to his house for sale night since he is an IT professional and I knew his computer and internet connection were the fastest I had access to. I ended up getting very lucky and was able to finish the night with two VVWs on order. One was Rosewood and one was Bubinga. I took off from work to stay home and receive them. I LOVED how they looked and felt. I took a million pictures of them. I posed them with a nice beer poured into a glass. I posed them with my sleeping kids. I was so proud of them. I bought a monstrous bottle of Howard's Feed and Wax. I shined them up with a clean cloth every day. The problem I ran in to was that I could taste wood or finish with every single vape. I put them in panty hose and submerged them in coffee grounds for two weeks at a time. I did literally everything I could think of and things that were suggested to me to eliminate the wood taste, but it never left. I ordered and changed out the juice feed hose and bottle. I tried my absolute hardest to get rid of the taste of wood in my vapor, but no luck. It crippled me when I realized I had to sell them because after a few months or trying, nothing changed. I still get weepy when I think of old Rosey and Bubba. I still look at pictures of them from time to time, like children that have gone away to college. That is why I will not be battling you guys on sale night. I wish i was, but I dread the same type of frustration and aggravation if the same thing happens. I wish you all the best of luck on sale night. It's a really fun night. The days leading up to sale night are also so much fun. ECF is ALL that I did for the weeks leading up to sale night. For now, I will stick with my trusty silver vein Grand because there is no funny taste in my vapor. Maybe I will someday try to buy a used Woody from the classifieds in hopes that with age, the wood flavor will diminish. I seriously would LOVE to have a Woodvil again.

Click on my avatar and then click into my album of vaping pics to see Rosey and Bubba.

Vape on.
