I’m pretty close to my seventieth post so it’s my last chance to ask the fundamental question here in the New Members Forum:

Why so numerous ECF members use as their avatars the pictures of the dogs?

It must mean something but I’m not capable to decipher the idea standing behind that common custom. Each help will be appreciated...

I really don't get that either and I appreciate it that you are asking the difficult questions tonight, while you still can. I've always wondered the same and I don't think I will ever figure it out. Maybe it's a conspiracy; the dogs are about to take over the world and are just making their plan known to each other before the act, but just on ECF. I mean, if they did it everywhere it would become obvious to everyone.

Then again, it might just be coincidence, but I doubt that. I mean who would seriously believe that! All those dogs showing up at the same time ... with no rational reason for it . Your kidding, right!

Best of luck my friend, but once the dogopolipse hits, it'll be everyone for himself. It's been nice knowing you :toast:

cags,

So you assume that these dogs from the avatars belong to these users? That may be true at least in the case of some percentage of the ECF members.

Txaggiesaunt,

Your babies?

Crash Moses,

People love their animals...

The only animals in my house are: saprophytes, mosquitoes, moths, and spiders. I don’t like first two and I like second two. Maybe I should consider to use the picture of some my moth or spider as an avatar?

Ryedan,

Kurt Vonnegut revealed the similar conspiracy theory in his short story “Thomas Edison’s Shaggy Dog”.

crxess,

Your companion is glad as well because since one year he or she doesn’t have to smell your cigarettes.

minigoat,

In two words: a friend. I got that!

Mozah,

I’m dreaming about three children but never took into consideration an Australian Shepherd.

Subie,

People in the US seem to love their pets more then their own children! lol

Not only in US. In UK people buying the Christmas gifts spend more money on their pets than on their children.

Well I chose to use my horse as my avatar, however if I hadn't used her I would have used one of my beloved dogs or even perhaps my bird. I think a persons choice of avatar does say something about them and I really love seeing all the wonderful pets. I think it's probably a way of sharing something about yourself, without being too personal.

My question is.......when you have an opportunity to have an avatar, why do some people choose not to have one.......just curious :)
