The conspiracy theorists should be latching onto these results from the FDA.
Note: 1. I'm all for FDA regulation so I know I'm not inhaling something that will instantly kill me due to "accidental" contamination at the factory level. 2. I'm saddened that the tobacco extracts to get the nicotine and flavorings contain some of the carcinogens from the tobacco.
3. How biased is the media?!?!? Read the reports for yourself, and then read up on DEG. It is already used in tobacco. Where do you think the DEG came from? That's right, the extracts from the tobacco!!

It seems to me like someone said earlier, remove the tobacco extracts, go to pure synth nic and the problem is solved!!

I can't submit links yet, so google search:

Summary of Results: Laboratory Analysis of Electronic Cigarettes Conducted by the FDA.

Then search for:

What about the 'no nicotine' variants that also had some nitrosamines found? I believe that most did not but there were some that surprisingly did. This is because there is no uniform testing of these products therefore inevitable quality control issues.
Where do you think the tobacco flavor came from. nicless variants had some nic for the same reason. It is just impossible to get rid of it all. If you dont take quantities in to consideration then I could just as well say you are exposed to uranium since obviously there have been at least one nuclear plant accident in world. *shrug*

Well, not sure if this belongs here, but I saw my first commercial on E-smoking tonight. Sorry about the sound, it's very low. So among all this negativity, there is this one positive TV ad.YouTube - Electric Cig Commercial

Bwahhaha...a starter kit for only $169.00!?

Wow, what a RIP OFF!

First off, howdy all!

Second off, has this happened to anyone else with regards to the FDA news?

While sitting at my desk just a couple minutes ago a co-worker remarked on my e-cig and asked if I had seen the news. He said that the news said that e-cigs had, in his words, "all sorts of chemicals that make them a thousand times more dangerous than cigarettes."

Man this is pissing me off.

My personal experience today was actually quite the opposite. I've gotten looks from strangers while vaping, but until today no one ever said anything. Today, because of the FDA news, I got lots of questions from people who seemed genuinely enthusiastic about the product and wanted to know how I liked it, where I got it, how much it cost. Hell, one guy rolled down his window at a red light and asked me if it was working for me. Since we were waiting in traffic at the Rankin bridge we got to have quite the conversation.

Plus, I work for a major "big box" store and heard the people in the office and front end fielded calls all day from people asking if we carried electronic cigarettes.

Yeah - some people heard "unsafe", but it seemed to me like a hell of a lot of smokers who didn't know what an electronic cigarette was before are suddenly interested in trying one. Like I said to a friend today - it's not like my marlboros were made of sugar and spice and everything nice.

I'm truly rolling on the floor laughing! An effect no one counted on

I was wondering if a study was done to compare the e-cig to the product it is supposed to be better than......A real cigarette. If a company was selling a new and improved tire, it would be comparing itself to a tire. Is it safer than x-brand tires, do you get better milage than an x-brand tire etc, etc? But wait......this new tire has rubber in it too, isn't rubber bad for tires since it goes flat?
The REAL question should be are these new e-cigs a better alternitive to real cigerettes. IMHO the only way to fiqure that out is to do a study of how many people died due to using e-cigs since they first came out. I think it was 2005,but I'm not sure. Then compare that to the number of people who died due to smoking real cigerettes in the last month. I'm pretty sure the number of people who died this last month due to smoking real cigerettes will be a lot higher than the number of people who died vaping e-cigs in the last 4 years.

Hey there Scotchy!

I hate people like that... and you can't even tell them otherwise because they don't really care about the facts. If they did they would have paid more attention to the FDA report in the first place.

Ignorance is bliss only for the ignorant.

Sorry if I'm off topic a bit, but I think it fits.
So if the carcinogens are from the tobacco extract nicotine, the only way to eliminate it, is to use synthetic nicotine right? And only way to get a hold of synthetic nicotine is to buy from big phrama right? So wouldn't it be a HUGE money maker for big pharma to sell "clean" nicotine for use in liquid? Or is there even such a thing as "clean" and synthetic nic?
If that were to happen wouldn't that be a big merge of big pharm, big tobacco, and government. I think I just confused myself again...

It's called Lobelia - although I couldn't be sure if it could be applied successfully in an e-cigarette fashion

everyone is saying that ecigs are worse than actual butts.

Define "everyone" and what are their credentials and supporting data?

PG is pronounced by the FDA as acceptable for human consumption in just about every form. They're in a sandwich of their own making.

If they want to tax/regulate e-cigs, then they'll have to tax/regulate every conceivable consumer product on the same basis. Believe me, that won't fly.

This is fun to watch.

Question: If e cigs were really as horribly bad as they are saying they are, how is this forum here? Aren't we all dead already? :D Ghosts posting on the internet??? Now there's a story for them!:p
And, if it's truly that horrible, then it should have been a dire emergency to get the word out rather than sitting on the results for 2 1/2 months like the FDA did.

Especially when they HAD an announcement planned for the VERY NEXT DAY!

Remember? On May 5th, the FDA was to have an "announcement". The email that Bill Godshall informed us about that leaked to Congress and then the FDA retracted and said it was false?

Here's an timeline I have put together:

Before April 28th - SE stuff gets stopped, nJoy stuff gets stopped. In that order.

April 28th - SE sues FDA

May 4th - FDA analysis done

May 5th - FDA announcement CANCELED

May 15th - nJoy enters suit

July 22nd - FDA announcement
