I'm really considering organizing a "vape club" kinda thing locally here in San Antonio. We're the 7th most populated city in the US (maybe 6th now) and I have never seen a single person vaping.

Granted I'm a recluse but I DO go outside and to work etc but still.

I was thinking about a private dining room at a local restaurant and advertising (hopefully) here on ECF (need to see if that's allowed) and at local vape shops (though we don't have many). (I seem to be parenthesis-crazy tonight)

Is this something any of you would go to? I don't mean MINE, though you're welcome to come but I mean in general.

I'd really like to make it a regular event, maybe monthly. I think it would be a great way to expose more people to ECF and CASAA and share stories and experiences, swap e-liquids etc.

Just looking for thoughts/comments. Pros/cons...

I am all for the idea, would be interesting to see the turnout and crowd. The only con I could potentially see and this is just my opinion is hopefully you do not have ignorant and arrogant "kids" that I see on a daily basis hang around vape shops and just rant and rave about who they last slept with/how much they drank the night before. Knowing nothing about the community/products let alone how to act mature. Maybe I am just closed minded and they can offer something worth while... Nah I still want them to "stay off my lawn".

Thank you for that comment. My mind has been spinning with everything to get this going and I hadn't even thought of that. I will definitely need to specify an age restriction. I'm not sure how I would enforce that though I guess ask for ID of anyone who doesn't look of age?

Thanks again for the feedback! :)

I reread my original post, I didn't mean to come off as to exclude any person, and do agree if someone looks underage I feel it would be appropriate to ask for some form of identification. I was simply hinting of the potential younger crowd that I perceive as unproductive "kids" that would not contribute to what I believe you are trying to accomplish. Establishing a face to face vape community meeting, to share ideas, experience, hardware/juice , and potentially help against legislation that would affect our vaping community. I would associate that would an older more mature crowd in comparison when I go into a vape shop and see plenty of kids 18-25 who come off as arrogant children. I do apologize haha its late, and I need sleep. I do not mean to sound so pessimistic, nor to generalize all kids that way. I think your idea has great potential and would love to see it take off as well as similar meet ups in my area. It could do a lot of good, be a lot of fun, and be a great way to meet a lot of fellow vapers.

Nooo I didn't take your comment in a bad way at all. I share your point of view that a lot of "kids these days" seem to be just as you described. They aren't all like that but there are bad apples, just like there were when I was growing up.

I think it was an excellent point because I would like to get vendors involved and making sure I'm abiding by the 18+ is really important. I'm really brainstorming right now and it's a point I hadn't thought of so I really do appreciate the feedback :)

Local vape groups are a great idea. We have a couple very active ones where I live, in the Central Florida area. In fact, our monthly meet up just last night had about 75 people in attendance. We meet at a restaurant, and pretty much take over the place. In between times, we communicate via Facebook. Starting a local Facebook group is a good way to get started. At our meet ups, we often get donations of juice and vape gear, which we raffle off at the meets. Most of our local shops and vendors are members of our Facebook groups, and some of them frequently plan events at their shops.

I think setting up local vapes is a good idea, just need to make sure it is the right group as mentioned. I still haven't been to one, keep pushing my local B&Ms to host one but nothing so far.

When I smoked I was also an avid cigar smoker. We used to get together for what were called "herfs" and there was never a problem but the whole 18yo tatted/pierced/***head crowd isn't into cigars so never worried about that.

I'm really excited about it. I still need to figure a lot out but I've started making contacts already and so far I'm optimistic.

I need to quit obsessing though - I'm picturing either more people showing up than there's room for (unlikely) or me sitting there at a table laid out with business cards and stuff and not a soul showing up.

Thanks for the input :)

We have gatherings in the Toronto area that are sponsored by one of the local vendors. The meet up is usually held at one of the local pubs (with their blessing).

Group meets are fun. I'd make sure that whoever you approach to host such an event is fully aware of the possible vapor output a large group may produce. They may want to have you in a separate room away from their normal clientele.

Yes I was thinking about a private banquet room or something like that...maybe find a place to donate it for a few hours on an off-night. I'm hesitant about doing it out in the open for that very reason. I really do want to eventually raise awareness of what vaping is and isn't and the last thing I want to do is have a bunch of people complain about a group of people "smoking" indoors in public. (Ohhh the horrors!!)

:)

There is a Vape Club in Pittsburgh that meets once a month at a place where vaping isn't an issue for the restaurant/bar. It is a little far from me, so I have never gone, but there are always photos and people seem to be loving it. I say give it a try. The Pittsburgh folks have a Facebook page so there is a lot of interaction among folks outside of the vape nights.

I would do it if we had one around here! But I live in a very rural community comprised of mainly people in their late 70-80's so I doubt I could even drum up enough support to get something like that even going like that in my community, but I would love to live in a bigger city where I could attend a vapers group to help support me through the quitting process, maybe I could get enough support if I were to start something like that in my community since the local tobacco store is selling the crap out of their cheaply made e cigarettes which is why I am opening my own B&M later this year early next year once I get all my ducks in a row so that I can get people off of his crap and using good batteries and good e cigarettes that are going to last longer than just a month and then you have to buy another. But I guess that is one way to stay in business huh? Sell crap to keep em coming back for more? Maybe this is something I should consider for my town too...thanks for the idea! :)
