The smell and lingering smoke attached to clothes triggers my asthma. That is the only grip I have... well it does smell but I keep that to myself. We have friends that still smoke. And I ask for them to leave their jacket in the back entrance to my house politely. That cuts down the the smell/ effects it has on me. Oh and sometimes I cough when I smell smoke... but I can't help it I am not trying to be rude... :( My husband commented once "how rude, don't do that" And I said "do what" because I didn't even notice what I had done. But that is just me. I never fake cough. I feel bad that smokers are still trapped in their hobbit/ addiction. Nothing about it is pleasant. And I don't know one smoker who doesn't want to quit but "loves" the addiction too much. I never want to make them feel worse. I loathed myself as a smoker. I knew that I stunck to high heavens. But a sought out a change. And luckily found vaping and educated myself. For me it was getting to that life or death point tho. I really feared that one of those nights I wouldn't wake up not being able to breath. I would just never wake up again. Unfortunately some will never get over their addiction. And too me being a smoker was a living hell. I let them try mine. My friends not strangers. But I never make them feel bad for being a smoker. Just being one is bad enough.

This is what keeps me from ever wanting to go back to smokes. It's the dang smell. EWWW.

I picked up one of my books the other day, and was leafing thru it, and it reeked! Poor book - (I'm
a huge reader, and my books are treasures to me).

Anyone know how to rid books of the stale smell? Makes me want to cry. Seriously.

Couldn't agree more. The good part is we don't smell like that any more. One thing I will not do is look down on people who still smoke. I did it for over 30 years and will not hold it against anyone now.

Absolutely agree! And same here, however, now I will just turn them onto vaping :vapor:

Oh man!! I didn't think about this one. I switched to ebooks about the same time I took my smoking outside. lol
Maybe if you vape on them a lot it will make the cig smell go away eventually??

Sometimes my bubblegum flavor stays in my clothes. Haven't heard any complaints about that tho. ;)

Vapor consists of water droplets. After it cools, i sinks down. Smoke from cigs, or cooking odors have particulates, which cling to everything, therefore the odor remains.

I'm amazed about how I can vape in a room for hours and when I leave for a minute and come back in, the room smells like nothing... What is it with vapor that causes the smell to disappear after a few seconds? Even the smell of food lingers longer than vapor smoke

Try getting some "smokers candles", and burn them around the books for a while. You can also use Ozium, but don't spray your books directly, of course. Stand a few feet away, and spray toward them, but not close enough to wet any pages.

I am on day 27 for me, and I totally understand what you guys are talking about. I asked my wife, a non-smoker, how she dealt with me smelling like that, and she very bluntly said, "I love you, that's how." I used to try to conceal the smell/taste the best I could with gum, brushing teeth, and febreeze, but she informed me that it didn't help. I am so glad to be off the stinks!

I personally haven't said anything to anyone that comes in from smoking, but it puts a smile on my face to know that I made the change. Big ups to this board for helping me learn so much, as well as find my local Vape Shops.

I have a coworker who thinks that the people she dates can't tell that she smokes, because she does the toothbrush/gum/perfume thing. I don't have the heart to tell her that it is definitely not enough to hide it. :(

Thanks for the tip, I will try both if I have to. I hate the thought of them reeking, and can't really afford to replace
them all. Specially my trade books, some of them were well over $200 a piece. :?:

Believe me, I know about the cost of trade books. I have some that are no longer in print, and impossible to replace.

For the books, u could also try getting some of that baking soda carpet cleaner and put some of it in a plastic container then put the book in and put a lid on it for a few days. If that doesn't work I would suggest taking them outside in the spring and trying to air them out. Good luck!

Yeah, part of it was the effect smoking has on your sense of smell, part of it is your tolerance to the smoke.

Now that I have been analog free for six months, I can smell everything. It is truly gratifying the way foods taste different, too. Sharper, bolder, especially the acid flavors. I have recently started trying everything I thought I did not like (except Broccoli, my mortal enemy). I found out I like squash and asparagus last week. That is pretty cool, especially since I am now over 40 and need all the healthy veggies I can find.

Yeah, by "keeping it to myself" I was speaking more towards my feelings towards it. I doubt very few ex-smokers would actually have the gull to tell a current smoker how bad they smell ... or rip them for smoking. Though, there are "those kinds of people".

My aunt is one of those kinds of people. She quit when I was a kid, but I remember when she smoked, and she smoked probably for about as long as I did! One time when I was off by myself smoking outdoors she walked over to me and said, "Putting another nail in the coffin, are we?" I just smirked and said, "Yep" while thinking about what a nosy hypocrite she was.

I don't see the point in being rude to people. They know it's bad for them. They know they smell. On some level they care about it. The addiction prevents them from making positive changes to their situation until they're ready to overcome it. Making comments is only going to make them feel bad or angry.

One time when I was about 13ish, my mom got in my face to tell me she loved me. Her breath reeked so bad, and without even thinking I blurted out, "Your breath smells like death! Get out of my face." LOL she slapped me so hard that my head practically spun around. I learned then not to be rude to smokers no matter how much they stink. :D
