(If this is disrespectful rather than funny let me know and I'll remove it)

I have trouble identifying with the maleness of Abrahamic gods and the Father, Son, Spirit concept just doesn't appeal to me. The triple goddess is easier for me to relate to - maiden, mother, crone.

I don't think it matters Kate. It is the concept of 3 that is important, The all powerful "one", the offspring of the "one" as example of perfection to man (or woman) and then the spirit of the "one ' that ties all together.
Names and gender are not meant to be the focus, but rather the elevation and betterment of ones own spirit. Seeking only for perfection of ones self and to do what is pleasing to the higher and more perfect ones in the 3.
This leads me to contemplate the possibility of eventually finding our own place in a "3" of our own. ??? Perhaps there can only be the one perfect triad and we all have another place in relation to this.??? Oh dear, I've existentialized myself again.

Well, I tend to think that if there's a god that applies to me then it/they would be something I could personalise with all the good traits that I'd like to identify with. Maybe role models or something like that, something to look up to and aspire to.

I guess there are people who think characteristics of certain gods are supposed to be fixed with dogma and not open to translation.

To be honest, I spent a long time searching for spiritual meaning in my life and researched a lot of religions and philosophies. What I'm down to at the moment is a sense of my own values and my own ideas of what's important and I've never been more settled or balanced. I think because I can feel energy from inside rather than seeking something that's not me I'm much less depressed than I have been too. I wonder if that energy could be called divine.

When people say that only religious people are moral I couldn't disagree more. It takes less effort to blindly follow a prescribed code but when you work your own out it can be far more meaningful.

No, Kate, don't remove it. I have so much to tell you. When I was growing up, my hobby was to collect mythology from all over world and found them very similar. I was even encouraged by my teachers to keep me reading so I spent time in the library. When I got older I became interested in Bible archaeology. I've come to conslucion that the bible stories are full of mythologies/legends even Jesus story. His story was based on Egyptian mythology. (Virgin birth, walking on water, cruxification..) There is no historical Jesus. Of course my Southern Baptist family is dismayed, but they use my deafness as an excuse and still continue to pray for me. :) but funny thing is that they actually look up to me, believe me the wise one. Mom has dementia, she refuses to live with any of my other siblings, insists on living with me, says she feels comfortable with me.

I've just had a quick look for information on Sige - the goddess you mentioned earlier Bryn but didn't come up with anything straight away. Do you have any good links for information about her?

I learned about Sige when I got Goddesses of the New Light, A-Goddess-a-Day Cards by Pamela Matthews (she lives in New Zealand). From her little book:

Sige

Phoenicia * Egypt * Rome * Gnostic

GRANDMOTHER OF GOD
THE SILENCE before THE WORD

SYMBOL: A FINGER TO THE LIPS

SIGE IS THE SILENCE from which the first word came (the creation of word of the universe). To the Gnostics she was the primordial female power of creation. True to her name, not much is recorded about her.

Sige's message:

Be aware of the power of silence. There is a great wisdom in knowing when not to speak - or not to respond. Enfold yourself in the creative silence of meditation. Profound is the stillness before action.

Affirmation:

In the Eternal silence I find Everything.

When I found out about Sige, I thought she was the coolest goddess since Bast.

Maybe we could email Pamela and ask her how she found out about Sige if she has email addy. I have several Goddess cards like Goddess Guidance Oracle Cards by Doreen Virtue, Ph.D., The Goddess Tarot, Goddess Knowledge Cards, several others. I love the Goddess archetypes.

Kate, I typed in "Sige, Goddess of Silence" in google, and several came up. One of links here:

Sige - Fantasy Art - Painting Dreams by Wendy Andrew

Nice painting of Sige, but I like Pamela Matthews' better because I love spirals surrounding Sige in her painting..so Celtic.

edit: found a few more for you

Sophia (goddess), whose name is synonymous with illumination or light, is the daughter of Sige, the Roman goddess of silence. Thus, wisdom's presence is also a product of the womb, a place inside the silent feminine.

http://www.higherselfbookstore.com/Ricki/corner/feminine-wisdom

Eusebius (371 AC) became known as the holy liar for god and claimed to have a
200 year old letter by Marcus Aurlius describing the persecutions of
Christians in Rome in 177 AC although there were no records in the Roman
Empire of Christians or anyone else being executed for their religion. There
were records of groups of Christians fighting with other groups of
Christians. The early Gnostic Christians believed in the Persian concept of
an eminent doomsday filtered to them through the Roman - Mithriac - Jewish
sects and renounced marriage and children. They worshiped Jesus Christ and
the Earth Mother as the Goddess Sige (silence) who also was Sophia (wisdom)
both Mother and spouse of God who also resembled an Avatar from Buddhism,
which along with the Greek Myths, also contributed to Christianity...."<

Hi bryn, No, not my cat, good pic though. I'm more of a dog person. My Boxer of 12 years recently passed away and I don't think I will get another one. It just hurt too much. I can't go through that again. He was my best friend, always, we were never apart. Losing him hurt worse then losing any person I have known (family included) I know that sounds strange but I loved him differently somehow.
I do love all animals though, even bugs and such. Won't even kill a spider, just put them outside.
Since meeting Kate I can't go to sleep at night without an LOL cat to give me a smile.

And thank you for all my good friends here on the forum.

And thank you for all my good friends here on the forum.

I totally understand what you're going through. I am sorry for your loss. :(

I lost my 6 yr old hearing/signal assistance dog named Shane (pictured in my avatar) 17 months ago due to drug adversary. One of my worst times ever! I loved her more than anything and she was my soulmate, my lifeline, my partner and all. She went everywhere with me...planes, trains, metromovers, restaurants, work, etc. She could read over 100 words in sign language. Shane was a part Rottie, part German Shepherd, very sweet and smart. My cats loved her and accepted her as their Goddess, truly! She completed me, and my kitteh family. Link was broken when she left so it has never been same. I have since adopted a young dog named Rocky from a rescue group in Little Rock and then got a purebred beauceron from a breeder to be trained to be my next hearing/signal dog. Her name is Shania. They won't take Shane's place in my heart, but to add on my life.

Shane was my first dog that I had raised and trained. I found her sick and starving as a puppy near dumpster. She became an excellent hearing/signal dog. She was an angel that fell from heaven to my arms when I needed her.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So is the Buddha I posted earlier not really Buddha, Tauki? Are Buddhas always skinny?
Anyone can be a Buddha Kate. Even the founder of the Buddhist religion states, ""There have been many Buddhas before me and will be many Buddhas in the future...All living beings have the Buddha nature and can become Buddhas."

Buddha is "one who has achieved a perfect state of enlightenment".
