So I recently had a scare. While at the doctor for a regular check-up, he was listening to my heart and looked very concerned. I've been feeling kinda funky lately, and he said he thought he was hearing something that pointed towards a heart valve issue(in conjunction with my feeling lousy). He told me to discontinue use of nicotine, as it's a vasoconstrictor, and could be putting a lot of strain on an already overworked heart. He was, however, very interested in my roughstack, and all the details on vaping(being a smoker himself).
So, being crazy afraid that I was going to vape myself into heart failure, I quickly offloaded all my vaping gear.
I go in for an appointment with a cardiologist, and an ultrasound revealed that I just have a slight heart murmur, no valve abnormalities. He said, that while he advises I try to stop using nicotine.. he said I am not in any imminent danger by its use. AAAAnd living in a state where it's cloudy 8 months a year has left me with a vitamin D deficiency.. hence the feeling terrible.

Anyway.. I am excited to vape.. I enjoy it so... oh, and my heart isn't going to explode :D

Vit. D deficiency is more common here in the US that we want to realize. A few years back, my fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue were really out of control and I was having to take a fairly strong painkiller several times a day. Come to find out my Vit. D levels were so low they barely registered on the lab test (OK, not really that low, but you get the point). Up until then the doctors wanted to blame it on either my bad teeth (yes, had quite a rip roaring periodontal infection and tons of bad teeth), me just not exercising, or the fact that they just did not believe in the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. As my D levels came up, I began to feel better and pain management wasn't such a problem.

Onefang, can you try something? Just drop the PG in what you vape to 20% or less, and see if your energy level doesn't improve. It worked pretty dramatically for me and I was already taking Vit D supplements. I'm trying to figure out the correct balance, but I raise the PG at bedtime. A 95% PG mix puts me to sleep. I'm not sure the nicotine level is as important in all this as we thought.

I've been vaping mostly 100% VG juices. It had occurred to me that PG might be part of my energy problem, so I bought some pure VG based juices to try out. I don't really notice a difference between VG and PG as far as energy levels are concerned. I do notice that when I vape 18-24 mg or over it makes me tired and dizzy. I think for me, nicotine content is a contributor, but not as huge an improvement as taking vitamin D3.

No, I was just saying that if I vape 24mg juice all day, It makes me tired, nauseated, and dizzy(probably due to OD). It probably contributes to my already poor energy levels, but I don't normally vape up in the 18-24mg range, so it's a moot point. I was just commenting on the statement that nicotine may not be as important as it is generally considered.
Either way, PG doesn't make a difference. Dropping nicotine levels doesn't change anything(unless I get to low and I start to jones for it). D3 is the only thing I've tried that showed me a clear improvement.. and rightly so, as my blood work showed a significant deficiency in the sunshine vitamin. Makes sense, as I have been hiding from the sun for a year or two working a computer focused job.

Onefang- I noticed this too, but I DO spend alot of time studying for my college, switched from diet coke to coke (to try to gain a little weight- don't hate lol), and have not been drinking as much water as I should be since vaping.
I now drink green tea- at least 2 bottles of it, switched back to the diet coke (there is a HUGE diff in the caffeine content, I just found out), and getting more sleep. I think that people who quit analogs all will tell you that it somehow decreases their energy levels. I am going to try the B vitamins, that I read about on here- to help, both with moods, and with energy, and also the D vitamins too.
Wow- I am on pain management too, the dr switched me to a higher painkiller (percocet) since the weather is getting colder and I thought that may be part of the problem. They usually have the opposite effect on me, though and make me hyper. I for sure am going to try Vitamin D, thank you!

Of course excess nicotine will make anyone miserable. My question is whether nicotine is the main ingredient that makes vaping "work".

At 80% PG i was practically forgetting to take my pills. With 20 mg/ml nicotine 20% PG 80% VG I'm much more awake and still need fewer pain pills than when I was smoking.

Some people are more sensitive to PG than others.. for me, it makes no real difference in how I feel. However, scouring the web for medical testing data I've found in multiple instances that PG has been shown to cause CNS depression similar to alcohol, and opioids. I'd imagine that is in a fairly large dose, but as previously stated, everyone reacts differently.
