Another source of 100% cotton that I found is the cotton patches sold for cleaning guns. A bag of 200 is a couple bucks at Walmart.

I've done the cheesecloth wick, but it's a pain to separate the threads and put them into a counted bundle. These patches are tightly woven and cut easily with sharp scissors. I just snip off a strip about 1/8" wide and pull it through the coil with needle and thread. Add a small strip on top and viola.. new wick.

Could you describe in what way you use the needle and thread to rewick?
Sounds like a trick to add to my rebuilding arsenal!

I use a needle and thread to pull the new wick through the T3 coil. Loop the wick back over itself and twist it tight over a single piece of thread that's attached to a sewing needle. Like so...
