It is illegal to purchase, some places illegal to possess, but usually legal to smoke. Just another set of outdated/illogical laws.

Source?

The 2 states where I am familiar with the law it states POSSESSION under 18 is illegal. It's a bit difficult to smoke if you can't possess. So again, source if I am wrong.

Bottom line for me is that no one should be given an addictive substance until they're old enough to legally buy it themselves. All you can say to teens about vaping is the same things we said to them about smoking before. It's addictive, it's really hard to stop once you start, it's not legal until you're 18, etc. 95% of us managed to get our hands on cigarettes and/or alcohol before we were 15 regardless of what our parents and teachers said to us. All you can do is what you can do.

That said, I'm not decided on teens vaping with non-nic juice. I would need to see more info on long-term effects of PG and VG as inhalants. Until it's deemed "safe" by long-term research, absolutely not.

My education, degree in criminal justice. Was part of two of my business law classes about rights of non emancipated minors. Active smoking isn't considered possession, similar to your parents buying you a drink. Some local ordinances have changed that, I think also a state or two, but for the most part smoking is legal at 13 I think it was.

But the sad truth is that teens don't care what we have to say. They are gonna do what they want to. Lets face it. All we can do is give them alot of love, support, and talk to them ALOT.

also remember, in most States it is legal to smoke at 13, just can't purchase until 18. so nothing really wrong with them vaping and would be contradictory to regulate them because of that

Again, 2 states I am familiar with possession laws. I know the act of doing drugs is possession in both of those states because I know people who were caught in those circumstances. Once it's in the bloodstream it isn't possession.

While I don't condone it, it is better than cigs, grass or any other illicit drugs. However, the more young people get into vaping, the odds are that eventually this will cause an uproar amongst parents, some at least, teachers and health officials. Then law makers will use a big stick to control our vaping. This could well cause many if not most of the better loved artisan juice makers to close up their shops due to licensing, restrictions and other controls. We are at a time in this country where the government wants to control all aspects of our lives, especially health issues, and vapors have been lucky so far.
Personally I would like to see states pass an age restriction of 18 year old on buying vaping gear in stores. I admit I started smoking at 14, and just like the young vapors of today, because it was cool and a grown up thing to do. But it still didn't make it right or healthy.

I started smoking when I was twelve. It was easy to get cigarettes. By the time I was 16 I knew exactly where I could go and not get ID'd, and could bold faced con my way past all but the most stringent ID hounds. While it may not be ideal, or the best for our PR (though what does it say about cigarettes/BT/people and the industry in general that I could pretty easily buy a pack at 15), I would much rather see 16-17 year olds vaping than smoking. Hell, I wish I'd had access to a vape when I was 16-17 and smoking half a pack a day and chewing a can and a half a day.

So many different perspectives. I love yours.

Reading through this thread (again) makes me start to remember how it was. Can't stop'em. But I would like them to know why I vape and that I wonder how something that makes me feel stigmatized can appeal to them in any way.

Think it's just as much about trying to join in on the adult rituals of life as about looking cool. Like teens making funny faces while drinking watered down coffee while pretending to not only enjoy it, but savor it.

Not the nicest thing to say, but I'm fairly happy there's no teens in my life, so what I think about this won't really matter. Cause, I simply don't know what to think about it. Better than smoking? Very likely. Looks cool? Nah... Any reason to start unless you're a smoker? Not really. There are other pleasures in life that you don't have to inhale.

Pros in the teen mind:
- Question of legality in the long term
- Gadget!
- "Smoke" comes out of your head
- A right to fight for
- Adults probably don't like it
- Even more to argue about than cigarettes!
- Something not a lot of people have knowledge about, easy win discussions
- Techy terms and cool slangs, lots of abbreviations no-one understand :p
- Outsider feel - "The weird-cool one"
- Expensive stuff
- "It's not bad for your health"
- "Nicotine is good for your health"

While I do not approve of minors smoking or vaping. I can't stop them (if they're not my kids, that is). I can only educate of the repercussions vaping with nicotine can do to anyone, at any age.

Cited from Wikipedia

"Each state and many localities have different smoking laws. The purchase of tobacco by a person under the age of 18 is illegal and the vendor may suffer a fine for selling the underaged person tobacco products. The purchasing age in the United States is 18 for 46 of the 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia. Alabama, Alaska, New Jersey and Utah have raised the purchasing age to 19. Onondaga, Nassau and Suffolk Counties in New York have done the same.

It is legal for persons under the age of 18 to smoke, however they cannot legally purchase the cigarettes."

Here is my two cents, I started smoking when I was a teenager which is when a lot of people started experimenting with analogs and then got hooked. I kind of think that the teenagers who you see vaping were probably already experimenting with tobacco. I don't think it's right and don't think that anyone under the age of 18 should ever be allowed, but I kind of think I would rather then vape then smoke. Teenagers are teenagers they are going to do stupid stuff.
