I've wanted to quit for a long time, but every time I tried to quit cold turkey or even ween myself off of analogs, it failed. I realized the reason for this, as when I was trying to quit I was subconsciously sucking on pen caps trying to get the inhale/TH feeling.

My fiancée and I recently found out that we're going to be having twins (she's officially 12 weeks along today), and with my recent discovery of PV's thanks to my long lost cousin, I've taken the plunge. I now get the inhale, TH, exhale, plume, and flavor of analogs, but none of the bad stuff (sans people's opinions on nicotine). Quitting has never felt so easy.

So what are the reasons you decided to quit analogs/switch to PV's?

Honestly, the Health issues were always a good "reason" to quit, but never good enough "motivation".

This may sound pretty morbid but, Risk of death is not a good enough motivation to not do something. If it was, we wouldn't drive automobiles.
I believe automobiles are the leading Non-Health related cause of death

Anyway...what finally got to me was the smell and the nasty ashtrays.
I just got sick of it.

Believe it or not, that was a bigger motivation than the health and money savings.

IDK, that is a good question for me. I never intended to quit. I saw that there was an alternative, and I just went for it. I figured it would be healthier and I might save money in the long run. Also, it seemed like the future to me. I know that one sounds cheesy. I'm waiting to see this in SciFi flicks. Plus I like gadgets and electronics. So, it fit nicely for me.

Actually I'm all set for a while. I watch my partner buying tobacco and think, (and sometimes say teasingly) I'm glad I'm not spending my money on that. The government taxed me right into an alternative and I feel better too.

Health issues more than anything. Way too much coughing and not just early in the morning anymore.

Today is Day 1 for me. Last week I started using my V4L e-cig, off an on. Today I am using it exclusively. No doubt in my mind that I won't go back to analogs.

The key I think is finding the right one AND the right flavor. I thought I would want only tobacco ones, just like my Marlboros, but no, Wow Peppermint is the one that is doing it for me.

Good luck to everyone else. I am already breathing better. Who wudda thought?

I decided that after smoking for 18 years AND suffering from asthma (hey, I never said I was bright...) that I really needed to quit smoking. My girlfriend turned me on to the electronic cigarette at Christmas and I haven't had a cigarette since!! I went from using my inhaler from once or twice a day to only having to use it once or twice a week! My lungs have never felt better and my energy level has soared through the roof. It took trying a few different companies before I finally landed on a brand that I really like. I am now using the Omega Cig and couldn't be happier!
It's my hope that anyone out there even contemplating quitting smoking gives the electronic cigarette a shot. I tried the patch, the gum and even some holistic remedies but all to no avail. The e-cig was the ticket to quitting for me! Omegacigs.com is where I got mine. Goodluck to ya!!

Nearly the same thing here Tankerman...I have a seizure disorder, so I can't take the pills, allergic to latex, so no patch. I tried the gum (yukk) and the lozenges (double yukk). I tried smoking cessation classes and step-down method as well as cold turkey...nothing worked until I found my first PV...yay 4 months now!

i've been smoking since i was 15 years old. i stole a pack of my dad's marlboro reds and loved the heck out of them. i was an extremely light smoker due to the lack of availability until my 18th birthday.

i picked up some camel wide filters and fell into the addiction fast.

i had a boyfriend (who is to this day my very best friend) who got me to quit for 10 months. whenever he smelled it on me, he'd ravage through my things and destroy my packs and lighters right in front of my face. he'd crush them in his fist, stomp on them, and soak them in water.

when my grandfather took a trip to the hospital to die in may of this year, i picked up the strongest pack i could buy from a local gas station (the loves of my life until now---american spirit periques) and never looked back.

since then, my ex has been begging me to quit again. his grandmother died of lung cancer when he was a child, and my smoking really agitated his asthma.

as july approached, i started getting this terrible feeling after smoking. like i was going to puke, but i still couldn't stop.

i ran into a friend at a coffee shop last week and spent an hour with his vapor king. after that, having a traditional cigarette just wasn't the same. i had dreaded that urge for nicotine because i knew what those damned cigarettes were going to put me through.

my e-cig came in the mail today, and i am so excited to start my new life. my entire family of smokers is extremely proud of me, and my ex and i are noticeably closer. with this much of a positive response on the first day, i can only imagine what the coming years will bring me!

Health and MONEY! Both me and my husband smoke so the amount of money we spend on analogs is just crazy. We have tried to quit many times with no luck. We are both so ready to quit, I just hope this is our way :) Not to mention I want to be here for my 2 little girls who at present time are running around when they should be in bed!!!

Never planned to quit. Someone at work quit by doctor's order and started vaping. I've been aware of and interested in vaping for a while but didn't follow through till I saw firsthand how it worked. Vapor was inconsistent, but it seemed to work so I looked around and decided on a Blu (5/2010).

Been smoking for 30+ years. Started with clove straights and have been on RYOs (Bali Shag or imitations thereof) for the last 10 or so avoiding the chemicals and taxes on pre-rolled PM and RJR products.

Blus are actually ok, except I ordered high nic carts and after two hits, I was done. Planned to smoke Blus indoors and analogs during breaks outside at work. Same deal at home. Never smoked indoors. Got the nic from the Blu but was missing the repetitious action of "making smoke". I was still doing analogs. Saw that it worked but needed something better. Less hacking in the AM yada yada.

Originally chose the Blu because it physically resembled an analog. Decided that was the problem and went with something that logically resembled an analog: Need to be able to chain vape. Got a PT from Volcano and dripped it with lower nic juice. Killed that PT over a weekend, but I didn't do analogs. This is what I need.

Got a Bartleby (as a PT and more) to drip at the computer attached to the computer and in the truck attached to the cig lighter. And got a Wetbox for everywhere else. Stopped cold with analogs right there (6/13). I still have a couple of rollups in my cig case that I made 6/12.

Don't hack at all anymore. No burning holes in my clothes. It's sweet. Wallet's been hit moving from RYO (even moved from Bali Shag to "Pipe" tobacco to avoid taxes this last year) to PVs but I think it's worth it and should taper off once I quit with the big ticket items. Aint' goin to be this mo cause (I think) I'm on the list for a Precious L+JD and an extra JD.

Sorry for the length but was hoping it'd count as 5 posts?

I quit because I was tired of living my life being ruled by a bad habit. Cigarettes, what a pain in the keester. It seemed like they were always a concern, controlling my life. I'm so glad e-cigs are different.

Just a sec, I've got to switch batteries.

Ok ..... with cigarettes your completely controlled by them. You can't go anywhere without making sure you have your smokes.

Damn, I think this atomizer is clogged, lemme go clean it out. Back ....

Where was I ..... Oh yeah, cigarettes. What an unbelievably life controlling habit. Do I have my lighter, I'm low on smokes, better stop and get some .... etc, etc.

Hold on, I've gotta get a paper towel ..... ok.

Cigarettes .... pffft ..... I'm so glad I gave those up.

Ohhh .... their having a sale on juice.

Seriously though, my son came home from school and said someone there said he smelled like smoke. Hit me like a ton of bricks. Started check into workable options and moving my computer out on the porch didn't seem like a great one come winter time.

Came across someone talking about e-cigs on a forum somewhere and then stumbled across this place. I'm so glad. Spent many hours reading and packing my head with ecig stuff. As a result, my first ecig purchase was for an eGo from "Cignot." The rest is history, took about a week to go completely analog free. That was two months ago.

Thank you everyone!

Like iRou I had no plans to quit but Id developed a cough (morning evening and during the night) that was starting to worry me. I jsut wanted to smoke LESS, that was all I wanted. Its never been about 'saving money' (just as well really even though I do actually save a ton), or taxes, or even 'death' (oddly dying worried me less than the cough..).
Got my first Joye510 from cignot (and all my other joye 510s as well, they are my preferred supplier since that first purchase lol) and now its 7 months later and I havent looked back - the ticker starts from the first day I was SOLEY on a PV and now I just prefer it to 'the other way' lol.
Oh and the cough disappeared after a week on a PV :)
