I got a bit annoyed when my cousin, who is 20 and has never smoked an analog in his life pulled out his vape and took a toot in front of me. I am 27 and have been smoking since I was 15. I am so thankful for vaping, it has changed my life for only the better. I asked him why he started vaping, he said that he didn't know, he just likes it and that everyone at his university was doing it.

I know its his life and whatnot, but I just think its so stupid to start vaping considering this is a life saving tool for smokers to basically finally live a healthy lifestyle and enjoy life they have always wanted without analogs. I know for myself, being a 1 PAD smoker for the past 10 years, I wish I never picked up the habit. I tried everything to quit and the only thing that has done miracles is vaping. I myself am pretty late to the vape train, I have only been doing it for about a month now..but I have also been analog free for a month.

What are the community's thoughts on this? Is vaping the cool thing to do now for younger kids? Instead of the "bad" kids smoking in high school, are they going to start vaping?

Just seems kind of ridiculous to me.

I feel you on this one. Every time I pull my mod out in front of my friends (18-25) they all seem to want one. The ones that smoke, I give them a card to one of the various venders I shop from (I make copies to give out). The ones that don't smoke, I make it very clear that it usually does contain nicotine and is addictive. Don't ever let them take a hit; I wouldn't let a non-smoker take a drag off my analog.
If I was young again, and was offered a vape instead of a cigarette I probably would have gotten hooked far quicker than I did. I mean, its far more appealing to people. They taste great, don't make you smell nasty, and doesn't have as much bad media around it.
If people that have never had a cigarette want to vape, thats them. But I'm going to make it clear that these products were designed for those addicted to nicotine. To me, that's what it is designed for. It is a crutch, and I would hate to see anyone who doesn't need it pick up the habit.

I'm kind of ambivalent on the issue. On one hand it concerns me since we still don't have information on the long term health effects. I'd be willing to lay odds that the evidence will bear out that they're better for us than smoking, but are they truly harmless? I also worry about creating nic addicts who wind smoking if vaping gets banned. On the other hand, if people are going to take up a vice, I would much rather they bought a PV than a pack of analogs

As a Kid and younger adult I was Immortal, and knew everything.

I learned the hard way, there was no other.....

These days are no different, it's my hope kids are wiser and I'm sure they are but street sense is life itself, and takes time to learn. I hope they're smart enough to Vape 0 Nic....

Better to Vape then to smoke in any case.

I really have no issue with this IF they are 18+. I smoked because I enjoyed smoking, and quit for health reasons, not because I didn't like to smoke. I like vaping so much because not only does it get me off of an unhealthy product, but because, for me at least, it improves the experience by giving me a way to do it without the horrible side effects. I can't judge someone else for enjoying what I do. If anything, I'm glad they made the decision to vape instead of smoke. I wish I had that option when I was younger. Yes, I started vaping as a way to quit smoking. I KEEP vaping because I enjoy vaping.

Well, as much as I get the point you're making OP I'd rather see someone experimenting with such things vaping rather than smoking an actual cigarette.

My son is 9. I vape in front of my kids & they've asked me about it but generally don't care much about it other than when the juice doesn't smell good. But my son did have a conversation with me about it once & informed me that he didn't think he was ever going to smoke or vape because it was a waste of money & he wanted to spend his money on other things. I say good for him for making that choice if he does make it. But if he grows up & feels inclined to experiment with such things, I hope he chooses vaping over smoking. Smoking is a hard habit to quit as many of us know.

The only concern I might have about it would be the fact that vaping as not been very thoroughly tested as far as health affects go. But cigarettes definitely have & I'd much rather see anyone vape than smoke.

First. I have no problems with non-smokers vaping. I would rather they blow puffs of vapor than puffs of smoke.

My concern would be what if they're out at the bar and they run out of juice? A bunch of people around them have cigarettes, and they're now used to the oral fixation, so what might they do? I think it's very possible they'd bum a smoke.

Isn't it possible that vaping could be a gateway?
in a word - NO. Have you forgotten how awful tobacco tastes? and smells? if a person has reached voting age and has never smoked, I doubt that vaping could induce them to do so, although it seems like you are falling for the ANTS argument here. If you think it's possible, then you need to research the actual scientific findings on it. :) Not trying to sound confrontational, but I do want you to feel relief that smoking is a gateway to vaping, not the other way around.

I think an adult can do what they want if it doesn't hurt anyone else. And if they want to consume nicotine it's their choice. And if they choose to do it with a PV rather than a burning piece of tobacco, they are smart.
totally agree!!

First, I was just posing the question.

Second, yes, tobacco tastes and smells bad, but yet many people start smoking every day. You don't think it's even possible that someone that's used to placing something in their mouth all the time while out drinking and socializing (e-cig) might be more likely to start smoking (when out of e-cigs) than someone who has never done either?

I've never seen a study on that particular aspect, but it's certainly probable and logical.

I don't see why you have a problem with it. Nicotine is an enjoyable stimulant, and vaping is a non-harmful delivery system.

If vaping keeps your cousin from smoking, (which a lot of people pick up around age 20), it's great that he found it.

Most people who vape used to smoke, but it seems that some are starting to vape instead of smoking. That's a good thing, imo.

Sure it could happen. But there are plenty of people who are/were social smokers & ONLY smoked when they went to the bar & some never bought their own cigarettes. My husband would often smoke a few of my cigarettes when at the bar during our bar days. But he never started an actual habit of smoking as a result of that.

Is it a gateway to smoking an analog? Has anyone done this?

I'd think that the transition would be pretty rough, especially from a 0 nic fruity flavor, to a full fledged analog.

CASAA stats show 1 in 3'000 vapers are first time smokers, but never saw numbers about people moving to analogs afterwards.

I agree with this ^^^. I smoked for 37 years and am on zero nic now. I can take it or leave it and I know that from having experienced it.

I have zero problem with it. Let's not forget where we came from. We all had a choice once and we chose to smoke or chew. For the unfortnate ones like me who made the choice not knowing that we shared a genetic flaw that smoking would become near impossible to quit, thank goodness we later found another choice to get us off inhaling insane amounts of toxic chemicals for a better way.

How many people do you know that have never taken a single drag of a cig, puff of cigar, or wad of chew? I know a total of zero. I'm sure there are plenty out there but they are a huge minority.

Vaping is a new choice. They path is already beaten wide and far. There are some branches. For those who start the path there are a few branches and it depends on the indivudual. Some take a few steps and exit, others walk the path when they feel like it and stop whenever, and others like me walk it forever no matter how hard we try to get off the trail.

I hope everyone who is predisposed to walk the path forever chooses to vape first. If someone can take it or leave it or have no interest at all then who cares? It will never become a lifestyle.

Being concerned about non-smokers vaping is illogical unless all tobacco products are removed from the market FIRST.
