I feel a tad bit intimidated posting among all you seasoned veterans. I just thought I might be able to help a bit. My first e cigg is an RN4081. I thought oh this is good enough for me..I have 7 batteries the cartomizers are really cheap. But lately my eyes have been roving to other things.

The whole 510 thing is important..I totally understand that. Soooooo I'm now looking at two options. The Riva and the Provari. I'm leaning towards the Riva. It's lighter and easier to use..looks really nice too. I just really need to decide if it's that important for me to vape at different temperatures and to deal with the extra weight of the Provari. the Riva looks so nice..so does the Provari...and someone just mentioned something I never thought of. How the Provari uses separate batteries. Now I have something else to consider. The vaping time difference isn't a huge deal for me between the Riva and Provari..they are both better than my current ecigg.

So many things to consider..but I'm narrowing it down :) I appreciate all the info on this thread and the board in general. Oh the reason I'm even thinking about changing eciggs is the flavor..wow! If the juice tastes better on a different model..I'm all over that!

Oh..I forgot to mention I'm all set and ready to go with a button. I can handle that.

Everyone was a newbie, and since vaping hasn't been around terribly long, even veterans haven't been around forever, so no need to feel intimidated.

We all like what we like. It's all relevant.

Automatic batteries are rarely sealed. Any liquid leak, whether from dripping or overfilling or whatever, can cause problems. They also have automatic shutoffs that may, or may not interfere with a long drag.
Others are sensitive to noise, especially wind noise, even to the point of turning on in your pocket when you drive with the windows down.
Others are sensitive to vibrations.
A few batteries have one or more of these "quirks". Some have most or all of them. Very few have none of them.
It's just an unnecessary complexity unless you absolutely must be able to vape hands free, like while performing open-heart surgery or wrestling an alligator.

Well, wrestling alligators is only my weekend job, so I should be okay with using a button :).

I took some pics to show some (relative) differences in size:

sizecomparison_02.jpg

1. A regular 510 battery (manual) with regular cartomizer, I think 180 mAh
2. He who must not be named
3. A Riva battery (manual) with regular atomizer, cartridge and cone, somewhere around 700 mAh
4. A standard KR808D-1 battery (auto) with standard cartomizer, 280 mAh.

It doesn't show well in this picture, but the Riva is exactly the same length as the KR808, it's just thicker. So you see, a big battery doesn't necessaryly mean the whole ecig is BIG.

And, just to be complete, I'll add this pic as well:

sizecomparison.jpg

1. A Zippo
2. [censored]
3. A cigarillo
4. KR808
5. Riva
6. Some Sharpie thingy
7. A fairly big sigar (Balmoral Corona Dominican Selection)
8. A 1000 mAh eGo battery with XL Dual Coil LR mega cartomizer
9. A Lavatube with 5ml J-tank.

Okay, so I think I've decided, per many recommendations (thanks) to go with the Apollo VTube for the variable voltage, generic hella-long lasting battery, and decent price for a kit.

Only question I have is, I understand this takes the 510 high resistance cartomizer/atomizer...I understand I can refill these with my own juice (right?), so what's a good recommendation on number of carts to get with it? Will I just need two or three to get me through a day without a refill plus a standby, or should I order more standbys? What is the throw-away rate on carts? What do you guys usually carry in terms of back-up/inventory?

I would go with cartos for the convenience. You can find packs of 5the for under $10, in my experience, they typically last weeks each. Keep in mond that it isnt always the case though. The carto has built in atty and to refill you just drip juoce into the filler material. It's extremely simple. You can keep a second one on you if you want, they are small so it probably won't be a problem.

I second this. I buy the Joye cartos for the 510 that I use with my Ego for $8 a five pack (i don't like the more expensive and larger ego cartos). I buy them prefilled, but continue to refill them for several weeks before I toss them. I will never fool with a cartridge again. You have to drip and fill it back up every few puffs.

I just wanted to report back and mention I ended up going with PaporPlas's suggestion and got the KGO 1100 mAh. I monkeyed around with some cartridges and a 1.5-ohm dual coil, but ended up settling on the smoketech 1.7-ohm single coil and am also liking the tried and true boge 2-ohm single coils...both provide a nice vape on the KGO's 3.7 V, for me. The smoketech seems to give me more of a throat hit, the boge's are nice and smooth. Currently vaping BluMist's RY4 and Banana Split, and loving it. Thanks to all for being helpful, especially for those talking me down from the traditional cigarette-lookalike. My wallet loves you guys, too.

Same thing happened top me about a year ago went to a local shop and I think spend about $120 for a 510 that shoulda cost me less than half that!

Just got my new joytech ego c and I couldn't be happier, the new battery not only locks but it also fades from grey-white to aqua to dark blue as the battery becomes empty. The fact that the atomizer cone comes completely apart to remove the atomizer heads, making cleaning the whole device so easy and the vapor production is spot on. It's just perfect in my opinion!

Honestly, after you kill 3 or 4 batteries you will go with the button anyway, so you should probably skip that headache.

The buttons aren't bad at all, you will find that it is being pressed naturally by the way you draw on it.

I'd say any ego type battery will get the job done just fine :)

True that! No frying a carto under a lot of sound volume (concert) as auto batts are sound activated. I toasted a quite a few till I became aware. I also returned the system to Blu and ordered a Inferno and now I am happy.
I never burn a carto, my 650 batts last all day ( I always have a spare). Buttons are the way to go!

It pretty much shows how much malls overcharge on everything. They have very high overheads however, so you can't really expect their prices to be anything like internet purchases.

That's true to an extent. But their o/h doesn't justify the ridiculous prices. B&M stores have o/h as well, albeit not always as high as some malls. But mall kiosks depend on impulse buying, so people have no idea how bad a drubbing they're fixing to get. That's what the mall stores exploit. B&M's know that there's a fair chance that when someone walks in, they have some idea of the internet prices, so they have to at least stay reasonable.
