So I'm looking to buy another mod that could withstand some abuse. I'm always worried about scratches on my Silver Bullet or anything else I have with me. I want one that is super durable and easy to maintain (mechanical), made of a hard metal (not aluminum). I have looked at the Cube and the Precise +. What are your thoughts on those and what are some others out there that can take a beating?

All of those that you speak of would be made with aircraft aluminum. Which is close to impossible to break or damage. Take a REO for example. There's been REOnauts that have dropped it from 20ft in the air (on a ladder of course) onto cement. Ran over them with their truck. Dropped it in water and the list goes on. You can't can much more durable than that unless you want it to withstand the impact created by a bomb. That's just my opinion of it.

Although you don't want aluminum, the Roughstack takes serious abuse for little cost. Mine has been dropped onto concrete and large rocks a number of times and all that happened was a little chip and few scratches to personalize it. The switch is easy to clean and user replaceable. A pocketable 18650 tube that's the basic tool for vaping, not too expensive or pretty, well machined and ready for playing outside.

Just because you mentioned Z-Day, you may wish to check out the Zombie Vapers subforum in here.

There is talk buried in the threads there, that basically sums up the Darwin as the ultimate survival device. Not based solely on durability, but also partly on how it would be easy to charge with a solar charger, if I remember correctly. I don't personally own a Darwin, and can only vouch for the durability of the mods I have. I dropped one of my 5v GLV2's off my motorcycle at around 50mph, and it still works with only the powder-coat slightly scratched; but how to actually charge the batteries during the Apocalypse ... it will be a stressful time is all I can say.

Crank flashlight mod == awesome. I was totally going to look into that, but someone beat me to it. :p

I was thinking that the SB was the quintessential zombie-proof mod. :) Aircraft aluminum is strong *and* light, thus its application in... aircraft. :) It can be scratched, for sure, but I don't think I've ever seen a pic of one actually broken other than the switch. The omega is roughly the same build with a mechanical switch.

Awesome, thanks or the input guys. I've had some mods that just get nics and scratches too easy (Omega). I tipped my Silver Bullet over on my desk, it hit my keys and now there is a gouge above the button. That's the kind of stuff im trying to avoid. The stainless cube or the Precise+ both looked solid. I may have to go with the cube b/c I like box mods, but they are more of a desk vape for me. Then again, I have never had a mini box mod. Ill look at the Reos too.

Dang .... that's cool, but 10 minutes of cranking for like 15 hits? ...... my arm would fall off .......

Yeah, you'd get a lot more bang for your buck with a Bicycle Dynamo Generator

That one is only 3W, though, so would still need some intermediate battery system. If one could find a 6v 12w dynamo, you could have a 6v passthrough that works on pedal power... or, ya know, rolling down a hill. :)

+1, and in the tumbled finish, any abuse won't show.
