Well, sooner or later it had to happen. One of the twins is officially gone to a new home. I found a guy looking for an XD45 and he was trading a brand new, still in the box, Springfield Armory 1911 Mil-Spec GI. He never even filled a magazine with ammo. Gonna break her cherry tomorrow.

I felt bad that I split up the XD twins, so I went out and got the new 1911 a friend. I have been reading a lot of info on the Norinco 1911's. The frame is forged vs cast. If all goes well, tomorrow I should have triplets, a Colt 70's series "hybrid". I also decided to try one of the MADS pieces on the magazine. I am going to have to get a couple more now.

Yeah, it was the same gun I posted last year that I cleaned up. Colt slide, Essex frame. Once I got it back to the shop, the guy sent it out to a gunsmith because it didnt feed right. Had it worked and it feeds and operates great. The guy who bought it traded it back to the store for a hunting rifle and the owner now has less than $300 in it. I figure if it operates and functions correctly, then I have another 1911 on the cheap. If it doesnt, I will sell the Colt slide to someone looking to build a Colt custom and keep the frame and internals for parts. Either way, I shouldnt lose much if any $$$.

For anyone in the PNW who wants to test themselves in a controlled zombie outbreak...
Amazing Events Deal of the Day | Groupon Seattle

I saw a commercial for this during the Walking Dead premiere and here's a Groupon discount for it! Groupon expires at midnight tonight Pacific time. Get your zombie run on!

They're also donating a portion of the proceeds to charity as well but the important thing is ZOMBIES!!!!!
Here's a course map and they're promising at least 10 obstacles plus a few surprises... I'm about 100% sure I won't be in the top 10 finishers but it should be fun. You'll get a free t-shirt, and a beer with free unlimited food and other beverages. There's also a costume contest with multiple categories. All in all, I agree with their motto: If you can't beat 'em, eat 'em!

For give me father, for I have sinned....

I recently broke up a set of "twin" XD45's, but I felt I did good by replacing them with triplet 1911's. Well, sorry to say, the triplet family has been broken up. I kept the Springfield 1911 A1, but the Norinco and Colt/Essex have found a new home. And as much as I hate to say it, because Lord knows I have done my share of crackin on the .223/5.56 round, I am the new owner of a Sig556.

I think of it more as an AR design and the Galil as more of an AK design. The SIG looks more like a reverse Galil using an AR trigger group with AK firing (but highly modified) system where the Galil uses AK lower with an AR firing (again highly modified) system. Basically, I equated the lower control locations and exterior 'look' to design origins. Much like the Vz 58 owes to the AK 47 which owes (a lot) to the StG 43/44... I look at the origin of the overall look and function. Kind of like how 90% of all bolt action rifles can be traced back to the Mauser action or pistols to either a Browning or Walther action.
Once they started making the jump from buffer tube AR's to gas piston AR's, the connection was made in my mind about the lower trigger group. If it looks like a duck... :D

For what it's worth, I shot a Kel Tec sub2k this past weekend and it's next on my must have list. I'd read all the reviews, heard from friends and aquaints, all were glowing reviews. With that being said, shooting it made them all seem to under-rate it. The only gun more fun to shoot is the Ruger 10/22! I didn't really expect too much from a $300 gun but it was pretty darn accurate even when I was emptying clips trying to make it jam. 13/15 body hits at 25yds in under 5 seconds, freehand! Now I do have to say that the KT's muzzle does jump around quite a bit if you don't have a firm grip on the fore stock but recoil is almost non-existent. The 2 boxes of ammo were gone all to quickly but the smile lasted all day and well into the night. Hell, I'm smiling right now just thinking about it. If you do take your time and set up a stable shooting platform, you can get respectable groups but where's the fun in that?

I entered a raffle here in Ga. The drawing is this Friday at 6pm. $5 per ticket guaranteed no more than 100 tickets sold. The prize is a Keltec sub 2k, 9mm, so fingers crossed.

I also had to go to Alabama. While there I met the sheriff of a small town and was talking to him about the carry laws. I also had the Sig with me and while we were talking we got around to weapons and I showed it to him. He showed me his AR fully automatic and before it was done I talked him into letting me shoot his. He didnt have a lot of ammo, but I had 8 mags with me. Was definitely a blast especially using the cop car to brace on.

I have been looking for a rifle that shoots pistol ammo for a while. I contemplated the Marlin camp 9, but the ones I found were pretty expensive. I looked at the Keltec Sub2K's, but they are only available in 9mm and 40. I really wanted a 45acp but didnt want to go the hi-power route. I finally found the gun I wanted, a Just Right Carbine. I found one on our local gun ads, a JR Carbine in 9mm and the guy had a Brand new, never fired, 45acp conversion kit he threw in for free. I think I finally have the perfect carbine.
