Who's using or is planning on using a gas mask during the zombie apocalypse?

If you are using one, which model are you using?

I was supposed to buy one this past weekend, but deleted the sellers email by mistake. The only number i can remember is FRC 40, but I cant find any info on the web, so that means either a) my memory is shot and I am remembering the wrong number or b) there is a conspiracy against me on the entire internet to not let me find the mask I was looking for. I am thinking its more than likely B, and Mac is behind this somehow.

Anyways, whoever is using or gonna use a gas mask, what kind are you using. Links would be great.

Check for a firefighter SCBA unit if the price is right. Full faceplate for vision but I've never tried to mount a long arm with one on. Here's a cheapy if the price doesn't rocket tomorrow. ISI Magnum SCBA Face Mask w/ strap - eBay (item 170611998189 end time Mar-10-11 14:10:13 PST)

Or if I remember correctly, you were looking at the Finnish (gas mask) which are going for around $30 shipped with one can on ebay. OR there's some Scott full face for around $70 + shipping w/o cans also on ebay.

I will be using one. I like the Isreali NATO style. Mostly because it's cheap (around $20) and the canisters ($3-5) are NATO so there should be lots of re-fills available should your supply run down. I don't have a link but your local military surplus or gun show will have them along with the filter cans.

I want one like the one in your picture. Just to wear while I'm riding my bike. Since I ride a little Rebel, the being "heard" part is a little weak, so I have to do as much as I can to be "seen" while I'm on the road!

Yea, that's an Israeli NATO style gas mask. And you should definately turn some heads in that one!

S&W lower with a 20" barrel. Picked it up at the gun show a couple days ago. It's my first AR. Thought it might be nice to put it next to my AK-47. I took it out today and it shoots nice, just need to get some optics. I will post pics when I get a better heat shield with some railing.

Scott makes good stuff. First choice for firefighters among most others needing quality optical protection. The compatibility with NBC canisters is a big bonus.

To muddywaterman, Nice pick! I'm a fan of the 20" over the carbine or 10.5" barrels as it takes best advantage of the .223's capabilities. Stagg used to make the lowers but I've heard they've moved mfg in house now. Just a word of advice before you hang a christmas tree on the front end, every pound counts! The more weight you throw on the front is going to cause fatigue to set it sooner and that means a loss in accuracy.
As far as optics go, I personally had a few different handle mounted scope mounts and they are not all created equal. I had problems with several of them shooting loose. A 'quick fix' is to use a small viton 0-ring between the bottom of the handle and the top of the screw where they meet. It will still shoot loose but you'll make it through a few clips before you have to finger tighten it again. I tried different plastic and rubber washers as gaskets but they all deformed too quickly to do much good. For a scope, I had great luck with a 'cheap-o' Simmons Whitetail classic. I could shoot bug holes at 100yds with it and it never lost zero after I figured out the o-ring solution on the 'picatinny' handle mount.
Also, just in case you didn't already know, the AR-15 likes a wet bolt and carrier. Wetter (with oil) than I'd ever normally oil a gun in fact. I tried graphite and other high viscosity oils with a lighter coating and paid for it with obnoxious amounts of carbon build up on the bolt/carrier. If I 'soaked' it in rem-oil, it shot w/o malfunction with much easier (though still excessive in my book) clean-up after each session.

Hope all that ^ helps you with yours. Another add on to look for is called an 'accu wedge' that fits into the lower behind the rear take down pin. Keeps all the slop and flex away and really help keep the rifle tight. Like I said, I was shooting bug holes at 100 yds with a 20" upper with a CAR stock... DPMS Accurizing Wedge AR-15 - MidwayUSA
best $5 you can spend for your AR!!!

Thanks for the info bud. I believe in the KISS method as well. JUST got a rail mounted flashlight for my Beretta PX4 Storm after about 2 years o having it. LOL. I already have a red dot on my AK. Not going to go too crazy on my AR, basic scope and thats it. I want a better heat shield though cause this one doesn't seem to dissipate as well as some I have seen or heard of and I would LIKE the option of the rails.
