The Rayden from BD Vape - A VERY solid single battery mod

Due to YouTube's increasingly anti-vaping stance and YouTube guideline strikes against vape review channels, the reviews have moved to X (formerly twitter) and Rumble. The live shows, Ecig101 and WattsUP Vlog will continue on the YouTube channel.

The Rayden from BD Vape marks the rare return of a single battery mod which is also capable of taking a 20700 or 21700 size battery. With a hefty weight to it due to its zinc alloy construction, its going to be a mod for people looking for a "workhorse".

As always with a Vaping With Vic review, you know that I have tested this item for three to seven days, instead of reviewing it the day after it comes in...this channel always tests items first before reviewing.

Summer's done for now, back to low 60s, and the Sunday rain has been advanced to tonight.

Here in Fly Over Land, it's been wet and dreary for over a week and still counting .. about impossible to mow the jungle my yard currently is .. had the deck prepped and ready for the every 3 year stain job and it's still sitting and waiting .. very unusual for this part of the country this time of year, but, of course 'climate change is a hoax' ..

I'd also like to do a Spring detail on the new truck, but no dice on that either ..

VAPORESSO ARMOUR GS KIT review by hittman

The front of the GS comes with a clear sticker protecting the display screen. The fire button located near the top is a sort. Below that is the vibrant display screen followed by the lock/unlock sliding switch, and the USB-C charging port. The display shows the battery percentage and battery indicator, mode of operation, set wattage, coil resistance, puff counter, and one of three animations that can be chosen in the menu. The button/menu operation is as follows.

  • Press the fire button 5X to turn the device on/off
  • Press the fire button 3X to enter the menu system
  • Inside the menu the options include Pulse/Eco mode, Smart on/off, Puff, Bright, Animate on/off, and you can choose between one of three animations.

The included 5ml pod connects to the mod via two spring loaded plated pins that make connection with the bottom of the GTX coil that simply pushes into the base of the pod. The pod is held in place by strong magnets. The pre-installed .15 ohm GTX coil comes with a sticker covering the bottom of the coil to avoid accidental firing before the pod is filled.

The tip on this pod is fixed and not replaceable but is comfortable to use. There is an orange ring around the base which adds a nice look to the pod. The fill port is nice and large to fit most bottles while the rubber plug on this one is really quite well made and it’s nice that is stays in place due to the protrusion that fits into the hole and holds the plug in place.

The airflow adjustment on the pod allows for a fairly tight draw using the small set of holes or can be opened more for RDL/DTL vaping. A nice touch is the numbering system on the airflow control. The pod makes use of the GTX series of coils and is compatible with all available coils.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

It has been a while since I’ve reviewed anything made by Vaporesso since I haven’t been a reviewer for them for some time but it was nice of Sourcemore to provide the Armour GS for this review. I felt like the GS was well constructed and performed very well.

I started out by using the pre-installed .15 ohm GTX coil with a lemon cookie diy mix. I started out low at 40 watts and worked my way up to 55 watts that was a good setting for me with the airflow wide open. I tried going as high as the recommended 70 watts but there just wasn’t enough airflow for my tastes and the vapor was just too hot. At 55 watts the vapor was warm but not hot. The flavor production was very good and it provided plenty of vapor. It seemed like the pod had to be refilled very often with this setting and can only imagine that it would be more often if running the coil at the recommended 70 watts when the smart function is on.

Next up I installed the included spare .3 ohm GTX coil. This one is rated for 32-45 watts so once again I started low at 28 watts and worked my way up to 40 watts but it once again felt a little too warm for my tastes so backed it up to 38 watts with the airflow wide open. It had been a while since I had used a GTX coil so didn’t think about it at first but the GTX coils tend to provide less airflow as the resistance increases due to the reduced size of the opening on the coils. Even though I had the airflow wide open like I did on the .15 coil, I could tell that I was getting less airflow with the .3 ohm coil. I used the same liquid as I used with the .15 coil and was still getting very good flavor and vapor production. This was no surprise as the GTX coils have been around a long time and are well known for very good performance.

Overall it has been a real pleasure testing the Vaporesso Armour GS kit. My only real complaint on it is that the battery door is rather hard to open but at least you don’t have to worry about it opening on accident. I’d like to thank Sourcemore for sending the kit for this review. Also a big thanks to the readers as always. I don’t have a coupon code for this one but was told it already has a special price of $26.21 with a bronze membership. Below is a link to the website for your viewing pleasure.

Vaporesso Armour GS Pod Kit 80W 5ml

VAPORESSO ARMOUR GS KIT review by hittman

Hello and welcome back for another review by yours truly. This time I will be taking a look at the Vaporesso Armour GS Kit that was sent to me by Sourcemore in order to provide you with a fair and honest review. The GS uses a single 18650 battery to provide 5-80 watts of power. It is a pod mod and comes with a 5ml capacity pod that has top airflow and is top filling. It makes use of the Vaporesso GTX series of coils and makes use of their SSS Leak resistant technology.

INITIAL THOUGHTS:

The packaging for the Armour GS is much like I’ve seen from Vaporesso over the years. The box is green and black with the Vaporesso name near the top of the front of the box and a color picture of the device contained inside. In the background is the Vaporesso logo in green and the Armour GS name near the bottom. The back side of the box has the usual packing list, specifications, and company information.

Once the outer shell is slid off then you are greeted by a black envelope that contains the user manual and underneath is the GS with the .15 ohm coil pre-installed in the pod. Also off to the side is the spare .3 ohm GTX coil and the USB-C charging cable. I like how everything in the kit is immediately visible and there is nothing underneath the plastic insert which appears to be glued into the box.

I received the black version for my review which I like but it can be challenging to get pictures sometimes that actually portray the aesthetics of the device. The frame appears to be made of zinc or some type of metal. The sides and back are wrapped in a leather like material. One side has the Armour GS name stamped into the leather and the other side has the Vaporesso name. It might have improved the visibility of those names if they had been highlighted in a different color. Each side of the GS has a light bar that illuminates when the fire button is pressed. It can be turned off in the menu if that’s something that you don’t like. The back of the mod has orange stitching and the material does have some padding to it for comfort when holding.

The GS makes use of a single 18650 battery that is loaded from the bottom. I found the sliding mechanism that moves to open the battery compartment to be rather stiff and a little difficult to open. No chance of this one opening on accident. The company and device names are on the bottom. Once opened, the back of the door is marked with a – symbol to indicate battery polarity and the Axon name is etched on the plate.

The Lurker Thread

Good morning Dale and Retired :)

Glad you got the much needed rain, Dale.

Sorry to hear you two are under the weather. I might as well join you ;) Left work early on Thursday with aches and scratchy throat. Stayed home yesterday. Seems like the aches went straight to my sinuses as well.

I guess good old fashioned colds have gone the way of normal insurance rates

I’ve contemplated bare minimum coverage also. As well as increasing the deductibles. Our homeowners is coupled with the auto but the discount just isn’t as attractive as it once was. We just may have to shop around.

Hope we are all feeling better soon.
