Updated battery ratings tables, with E-Scores

Here are the new E-Scores ratings tables. There are no 18350, 18500, or 26650 ratings as I have not tested those cells in a long time and I cannot be sure that the same cells are still being wrapped. I hope to start testing some of these other sizes soon.

The tables contain instructions on how to use E-Scores to choose a good battery.

Battery performance E-Scores are coming

Instead of very technical and confusing Delivered Wh (Watt-hour) performance numbers for each cell I will now be using E-Scores (Energy Scores) in my ratings tables and the ratings graphic for each cell. The higher the E-Score, the longer the cell will run.

D7D5C352-0F3A-44E3-B762-2A9D8CF2D27B.jpeg

E-Scores do not take cycle life (overall cell life) into account! Additional testing will have to be done to see which cells last the longest overall.

Using E-Scores is easy…
Choose the right size cells with a high enough current rating for what you will use them for. Then choose the ones with the highest E-Score at the current/power levels you run at. Those cells are the ones that will run for the longest. Capacity ratings are pretty useless, you can ignore that rating if the cell has an E-Score.

Other changes…
- The Puff Counts will be removed from each cell’s ratings graphic as they are just the Wh numbers formatted differently.
- The safety documentation section was removed from the ratings tables. It was becoming practically a full time job trying to get those documents from the cell wrapping companies and authenticating them. I just don’t have the time. If a company uses an unknown cell then we just won’t know if it was safety tested or not.
- The ratings tables now include a section on how to choose a battery based on the E-Scores.
- The DC Internal Resistance will still be measured.

The new ratings tables will be posted soon. The new ratings graphic will be used as I post each new cell’s test report.

Tech stuff…
E-Scores are the exact same performance number I was using before, the delivered Wh at the stated current level down to 3.2V. They can still be directly used as Wh by more technical cell users. These numbers are a great measure of how a cell actually performs and E-Scores are an attempt to make them easier to use.

Date codes of 18650 cells

Because the availability of cells from the Big 5 manufacturers has dropped significantly while the prices went up, you maybe want to know the actual production date of your cells, just to check if you actually got what you payed for.
Older cells may deliver sub par performance or in a worst case scenario may even be used/recycled ones, which in turn can pose a serious risk.

Down below you can find a translation for the codes printed on the cells by each of the big korean and japanese manufacturers.

INNOKIN MVP POD KIT review by hittman

It’s been a while now since I’ve received anything from Innokin for review but here I am now with the new Innokin MVP Pod. When I think of Innokin, I think of quality made products that I’ve tried and used over the years and even more recently I think of how Innokin has taken steps to be more mindful of the environment by using recyclable materials for their packaging of products. Innokin has decided to go back to the basics to create a user friendly and reliable pod device that is the latest in the lineage of the MVP series. The MVP has an internal 500mah battery and allows two modes of output.

INITIAL THOUGHTS:

The packaging on the Innokin MVP is the expected eco-friendly box. There is a picture of the actual device color inside on the front and the back of the box has the contents list as well as a scratch and verify authenticity code. Inside the device is sitting in a cardboard cutout with one pod already installed. The installed pod has a plastic film over the contacts to prevent accidental firing before the pod is filled.

Underneath the device is the spare pod in a paper sealed pouch, USB-C charging cable, user manual, and safety warning booklet. Both pods included are .65 ohm.

You can see in the picture below that one of the boxes I received was slightly damaged in shipping. However, the device inside is in perfect shape and works well. The box they came in was well packaged but little care was given during shipping. If it had not been packaged well then the damage would have most likely been much worse.

upload_2021-11-28_11-6-42.png

Innokin has gone with the slogan “Vaping Made Easy” for the MVP Pod device. This is a very fitting slogan in my opinion for a simplistic pod device that is not only easy to operate but works well in my experience using the samples I received.

The MVP is a really nice looking and well-built pod device in my opinion. Its body is made of a good quality zinc alloy and has a nice weight and feel to it. I’m not usually big on colored side panels but actually like the colored one better out of the two I received. I would normally go with black when ordering something like this but very much like what I believe is a colored IML side panel.

On the front of the device is the lighted fire button. To turn the MVP on/off simply press the fire button three times. To change the output level press the fire button twice and the light around the fire button will illuminate green for 11w output or red for 12.5w output. I know it doesn’t seem like a big change but it is noticeable to me and I prefer the red setting to better fit my vaping style.

The battery level indication is as follows:

- Battery under 10% then the red LED flashes twice within 2 seconds

- Battery at 10-50% then the red light is on for two seconds

- Battery over 50% then the light turns off

When charging, the battery indicator will be red when it is under 90% charged, green when over 90% charged and will turn off when fully charged.

To be honest, I find the indicator light scheme on the MVP to be a little unnecessarily complicated and not what I’m used to seeing on many of the pod devices that I have reviewed in the past.

On the front is the MVP name of the device printed near the bottom.

upload_2021-11-28_11-7-41.png

There is an airflow hole on either side of the body and the USB-C charging port is on one side as well. This makes it nice if you would like to try to stand the device up while charging.

upload_2021-11-28_11-8-30.png

On the back side of the body is the INNOKIN name so there is front and back side branding but not obnoxious in my opinion.

upload_2021-11-28_11-9-25.png

On the bottom of the body is the battery capacity which is 500mah and 1.85Wh.

upload_2021-11-28_11-10-5.png

The pod opening of the battery contains two gold plated spring loaded contacts as well as the two magnets that match up with the magnets on the pod to hold it in place securely. Also contained inside is the airflow sensor as the device can be fired by auto draw as well as pressing the fire button.

upload_2021-11-28_11-10-58.png

The pods for the MVP are both the same and rated at .65 ohms resistance. I’m not sure exactly why but when I saw these pods they reminded me of the Sceptre pods used on that device even though the Sceptre uses replaceable coils where the MVP has disposable pods.

The Innokin team believe that they have found the perfect draw for these pods and claim a quiet and smooth airflow. It is smooth and the airflow is quiet but when the device fires it makes a vibration noise that reminds me of frequency control used on their other devices. I still think it might have been nice if there was an airflow control. I would call the airflow on these pods as a loose MTL.

I do very much like that the pods are slightly tinted and mostly clear so it is easy to see the liquid level. The pods are filled from the side by lifting the rubber plug. I was able to easily fill with no mess from both 10 and 50ml plastic bottles. Like I mentioned, it is easy to see the liquid level so the pods can be filled completely. It is recommended though to not let the liquid level go below 1/3. I’m assuming that this is to keep the coil well saturated and cool in case someone is chain vaping. I personally had no issue running the liquid level lower but didn’t run it dry.

Vp05cTC.jpg

Z87QeCg.jpg

FINAL THOUGHTS:

The Innokin MVP Pod is a welcome addition to the well-known MVP line of products. It does what it’s supposed to do. It is easy to use and performs well with good flavor and a decent amount of vapor production for a pod device. The 2.7ml capacity pods are a welcome upgrade where most pods I encounter are 2ml or less.

It has two available power levels with really no other adjustments besides turning the device on and off so just about anyone should be able to pick it up and use it trouble free. I experienced no leaking at all in either of the units I received for testing. Any more, with the advancements made in vaping technology, to me there is no reason to accept leaking on a pod device unless the user has made an error. I’ve made an error once or twice before but not on this device. Of course no manufacturer is perfect and has 100% no failure production but since the MVP includes two pods then you should be able to tell if it’s a defective pod. I mention this because I have reviewed some kits in the past that only included one pod which I consider a mistake on the manufacturer’s part simply because if someone got a bad pod then they can’t use the device and will most likely give poor reviews of the company.

I felt like I got good battery life from the MVP even though it only has a 500mah battery. Is this a device to chain vape all day every day? No but it’s a great little pocket care device for out and about.

If I had to pick a negative of two then I guess the first one would be no airflow adjustment. Some have it and some don’t. This one doesn’t and I feel like it would appeal to a larger audience of vapers if it did. That being said, I like a loose MTL so it was a good fit for me and the mouthpiece is quite comfortable. The auto draw on the MVP works very well. The second complaint I have is the battery indication. I have become used to seeing either multiple LEDs to indicate the battery level or three different colors of lights. I feel like the light indication for battery level could be improved on.

Overall, I very much enjoyed testing the Innokin MVP Pod. I felt like it did what it promised to do which is to keep it simple and work well. So, would I recommend it to you? If you’re looking for a simplistic device to pocket or purse carry that provides good flavor and vapor for out and about then yes. It’s really a solid pod device. I think there are always things that you or I will pick at that we’d like to see on a device but this is really a good one and would recommend it.

I’d like to thank Innokin and Anna for sending the two Innokin MVP Pod kits for this review. Also if you’re reading this then thank you for making it to the end of my long winded review. As usual, there is a link to the Innokin website below for your viewing pleasure.

Hello, and welcome to another read-through of Z-Lee's thorough, but likely missed something, reviews. I was sent the Innokin MVP Pod by Innokin for the purpose of this review and will be giving you a closer look at what this small, but tasty pod kit has to offer you.

Before we go full picture mode on you, first I want to thank Innokin_timmy for providing the opportunity to do this. As always, I will remain neutrally bias and critical in conducting this write-up. My biggest objective overall is to help clear up any misinformation being spread due to hype, embellishment, and personal opinions - I will evaluate these products for what they are. If I see potential flaws or areas of needed improvement, you can expect that I will point them out (within reason - ie. I cannot tell you how this product will perform in 5 years or 20 years being that I do not have that information).

- Overview -

Innokin's objective in creating the MVP Pod was for pure simplicity, and that's what you get. A good lookin', extremely easy to set up and use vape pen, while also having some creature comforts allowing for some customization in preference.

F9qbzEX.jpg

From Left to Right:
  • Amber Liquid
  • Space Grey
  • Pink Fade
  • Ocean Waves
  • Blue Fade
  • Stealth Black
I received the Amber Liquid and Stealth Black Pod Kits. The appearance of these Pods are accurately depicted here and allow for preference in a vibrant look or a more non-cholent look.

Dual Power:

yz64yu1.png
Two power options:
  • Green: 11 Watts
  • Red: 12.5 Watts
Not a lot of these small pod kits have the ability to manually change their power. They're either auto-adjusted based on the coil you pop in, or non-adjustable. If you like a slightly cooler vape, the Green setting denoted by the color around the fire button as seen above, at 11 Watts would be your choice; a warmer vape, Red being the best option at 12.5 Watts. Two clicks of the fire button to switch between these power settings; the light ring around the fire button will glow the respective color to let you know which power level you're using.

Dual Activation Modes:

G2ftYRr.png

The implementation of the Auto-Draw feature has been a blessing for these smaller pods due to their ease in being pocketed. Auto-Draw allows you to never have to worry if the mod is going to fire in your pocket, while still providing a nice, easy vape when you put it to your lips. It also has the ability to be fired like a regular mod if that is your preference. Three clicks of the fire button to switch between these Modes.

The Airflow:

oZD0aZk.png

Innokin being the champs they are at MTL vaping, have craftily designed the airflow to have a great ever-so-slightly loose MTL-style of vape. You'll never have to worry about burning out your coil due to a lack of airflow - they're masters in this department.

Two tiny pinholes appear symmetrically on both sides of the mod. In tandem with the Auto-Draw feature, these pinholes allow the user to plug one or both holes with their thumb and/or finger to create an even tighter draw if they desire.

Easy Refilling:

GIvqmvL.png

Refilling is an an easy task with these 2.7 mL pod tanks since they're slightly larger than the usual 2 mL pod size. The coils are built into these pods. When the coil needs to be replaced, the entire pod goes. I will discuss my thoughts on this further, below. Closer pictures will be shown later in the review.

Type-C USB charging:

5OjdQV3.png

The MVP Pod is powered by a 500 mAh battery. Although not large, as an MTL device - this battery will last the better part of a day with normal use. Normal use to me, being 2-3 puffs every 10-15 or so minutes I'd estimate. Probably more than that when I'm vaping for the purposes of a review. If you are comfortable vaping salt nic juices, that would likely further extend the battery life assuming you vape less because of it. USB Type-C QC 3.0 chargers are able to be used to recharge this device, although not highly advised due to the heat it produces to the battery. In a quick pinch here and there, it won't likely beat the battery up all that much.

- My Impressions & Analysis -

Packaging:

tpasdGH.jpg

Before we look at anything, I want to applaud Innokin for using 100% recycled packaging. As far as I know, they're the only company to do this. Not only are they selling a product, but they're advocating responsible Earth-friendly behavior by doing this. That is currently my biggest gripe against the use of disposable vapes. Coincidentally, that is also my biggest gripe with this pod system - the pods. I understand from a user-friendly perspective, it's easier for a person, especially a new vaper, to just pull the old pod out and stick a new pod in, but the coils in these pods are so very tiny. That amount of waste is far less than the entire pod of additional plastic. I don't see how 100% recycled packaging goes hand-in-hand with disposable pods. Sorry Innokin, but I know you can design better than that, I've seen it. Choose a healthier lifestyle, choose a healthier planet - please.

Contents of the Package:
  • 500 mAh Mod
  • 2.7 mL Pod (0.65 Ohms)
  • 2.7 mL Pod Replacement (white package - 0.65 Ohms)
  • USB Type-C Charging Cable
  • Instruction Manual
  • Warning & Safety Manual

The Mod:

ZQoArJZ.jpg

In the top left picture, you can see the location of the Type-C charging port as well as one of the airflow pinholes. Flipped over, you can see the other airflow pinhole. As mentioned before, you can cover one or both of these holes very easily by using your thumb and/or finger to create a tighter draw. Auto-Draw makes this extremely easy to do.

The Mod is fairly standard for a pod system. Inside you can see 1 of the 2 circular magnets on the left that holds the pod in. Two connector pins are visible on a slightly raised platform in the center. The off-center silver button just above the connector pins I believe is the Auto-Draw detector. The Amber Liquid color I received really pops in color and looks great. On the bottom you can see it's CE certified as well as the capacity of the battery should you need to know it, or forget.

The Pod:

N66hGJc.jpg

On the left, this is how your pod will arrive. As noted, please remove the sticker before attempting to use this pod device. It will be hard to miss, because you need to pull the pod out to first fill it with juice before vaping. At least I hope so.

Refill Port:

PurmOhV.jpg

The refill port shown here is sealed with a rubber plug. The rubber is quite soft, but durable enough not to have to worry about ripping it off. The refill hole can easily fit a chubby gorilla nozzle inside of it to prevent the worry of getting juice all over everything. That is not a great way to start a full tank of juice.

QMjPduo.jpg

ZqHH8IW.jpg

Also remember that air bubbles are a good thing. A lack of air bubbles often means you're about to take a nasty dry hit. If this does occur with this pod (which it hasn't for me once), try blowing into the pod. You can also try flipping it upside down to try to get some air transfer through the coil. There is no priming with this pod since the coil is not removeable. Fill the pod with juice, and let sit for a good 5-10 minutes.

8rM5RSa.jpg

The coil inside these pods are extremely tiny, but put out very good flavor. To compare, I laid it side by side with an Innokin 0.8 Ohm Z coil, which is also a small coil for a drop-in.

Leaking:

upvlIpu.jpg

I had my first run-in with a leak yesterday (Day 5 of use), but it was very minor and easy to clean up. The hardest part to clean was inside the mod, but a quick swipe of a Q-Tip will get that out no problem. Since then, I haven't seen a hint of further leaking. I hope this was a one-time thing.

QYE3wk9.jpg

Conclusion:

The flavor of the MVP Pod is quite good. If you're familiar with the Zenith II using the 0.8 Ohm Z coil, you can expect a slightly more voluminous vape cloud and flavor from this kit. There's also a lingering aftertaste which I'm noticing most pod tanks do not often have, and I feel is a must for me to even consider using it. With ease-of-use being the main objective in creating this pod device, Innokin did a great job of that. The pods slide in and out very smoothly. The magnets are quite strong and will surely keep the pod from flying out if you were to accidentally drop it. I've vaped probably 4 pods worth of juice through this coil and the taste hasn't changed in the slightest. My opinion hasn't changed, Innokin coils still reign king of MTL vaping. Other than the disposal of the entire plastic pod when changing the coil, and the very minor and easily cleaned leak I had yesterday, I have nothing but good things to say about the MVP pod. This device will likely be a very good selection as an on-the-go option for anyone looking for a small, slightly loose MTL vape. I've also not been able to find other coil resistance options other than the two 0.65 Ohm pods I received in the package. Will they be making more resistance options in the future? Let's hope so.

Edit: The coil started giving a burnt taste while concluding this review. It may be due to refilling somehow. 4 pod refills in total, 10.8 mL all together - I really hope the average coil lasts longer than that. I'll give Innokin the benefit of the doubt.

Edit 2: I let the pod sit for a bit and the burnt taste has disappeared. Giving Innokin the benefit of the doubt was the right choice.

Before I give a final evaluation, I want the viewer to understand how I rate this. For all values with a Weight of 10, it means this is a high priority for me - what I personally look for in a vape product. The lower the weight, the less this effects my overall judgment. Also bear in mind that I am evaluating this product for its intended purpose. The overall rating isn't a computed average of each of these scores, but rather my overall enjoyment of vaping with this product.

Evaluation considerations:

Battery: Weight 10, Evaluation 8
(Internal/External, battery capacity, recharge time)

Flavor Production: Weight 10, Evaluation 9
(Depth of flavor, full/rich vs. hollow taste)

Vape Production: Weight 6, Evaluation 6
(Cloud size, volume, thickness)

Coil Performance (0.65 Ohm): Weight 10, Evaluation 8.5
(Lifespan, dry hitting, chain vaping, compatible coil resistance range)

Build Quality: Weight 10, Evaluation 10
(Durability, quality, leakage, reliability)

Efficiency (0.65 Ohm): Weight 10, Evaluation 10
(Juice consumption)

Size: Weight 3, Evaluation 10
(Comfort, pocketing)

Visual Appeal/Style: Weight 7, Evaluation 8
(Schmexiness)

Versatility: Weight 5, Evaluation 10
(Options, Ohm range, salt nic vs. freebase)

Recommendation: Weight 7, Evaluation 8
(Would I pick this as the kit I'd rave about to another vaper?)

- Overall Rating -

Compared to other vape pens/pod kits: 8.5
(A few kinks, but overall a good device)

Compared to other mod+atomizer kits: 7.5
(A decently good on-the-go option)

Distillation with PG/VG

Hello, I found this video about nicotine extraction:
Login to view embedded media In general, the process looks easy, although waiting for 7 days to remove water from the final product is a bit cumbersome IMHO.

1. Can I use PG/VG 50/50 with Soda instead of water with soda for this process? If I understand correctly - there should be no water output in the end, so the result can be simply mixed with PG/VG and be used right away?

2. If this is nonsense - please tell me what else can be done to get rid of water? Decantation? If yes, how to perform correctly?

3. Assuming I have 100ml of 40mg/ml (as the author of the video says). If I want to get 20mg/ml I just have to add another 100 mg of pg/vg mix, right?

Hellvape Arez 120 QC issues or….

Hellvpe's aesthetic design choices & 21700 format has gotten me in Checkout w/all my shipping info entered, i.e., I'm ready to purchase!! However, I've been scanning YouTube reviews/comments where there seems to be noticeable & consistent reports of the Arez being underpowered, overheating, & general unreliable performance. There are also completely satisfied customers who are baffled by other's experience.
I'm soliciting Arez owners or other's w/first hand experience about their overall satisfaction, caveats, or other incriminating/mitigating opinions about the Arez. Thanks.

Naturally extracted Tobacco Wattage ?

Hi, I have been vaping NETs for a while now. After a fair amount of research on the web I can not find anyone who vapes them at higher wattage like myself .

The general consensus is that higher wattage ruins the taste of nets. Is there anyone about that also vapes nets at higher wattage and is there a reason not to vape them at a higher wattage of around 50w ?

If I was to try a mtl setup on my rta what would be the highest wattage setup to aim for ?

Any help is much appreciated as I have been struggling to find much info on this.

Vaping Tobacco Leaf - a guide to cigarette, pipe, and clove tobacco in Pax 3 and similar.

There are very few discussions on the internet about how (and whether) to vape your own tobacco in devices designed to vaporize other plant material, such as the Pax 3. Having been a fan of Iqos and other Heat'n'burn products, I decided to experiment and share the results. I think I have found a reliable method for getting a smoking-like experience with loose tobacco, as well as pipe-like and clove-like experiences. I hope this is helpful to anyone else trying to decide whether to buy in the future. Generally, I found pipe tobacco the most satisfying, followed by clove and cigarette. That is likely because that is also the ranking from "most vapor" to "least".
  • Requirements:
    • Vaping device with temperature controls (I used Pax3)
    • Grinder, for achieving the right texture and density
    • Tobacco
      • Other posters have suggested very dry tobacco. I found this to be effective for the cigarette-like experience, but not necessary. Light tobacco may be superior.
        • In theory, ripping a cigarette could produce appropriate tobacco for vaping, but I did not try this.
      • The best experience was with American Spirit Organic. I also tried Top Menthol and several Peter Stokkebye types (e.g. Norwegian Shag). The dark Stokkebye tobacco was bad, but everything else worked fine; the menthol did not add much menthol flavor.
      • Pipe tobacco worked well, even though it is quite moist (see below). Grinding cloves into cigarette tobacco was also a great success (see below).
  • Cigarette-like vaping
    • Grind your tobacco in an upside-down grinder to get a finer grind, ideally about 1mm-2mm maximum length. Leaving your tobacco open between filling the grinder allows it to dry, and using a finer tobacco generally (whisps of tobacco instead of strips like some brands) also improves the spread of heat.
    • Use the smallest chamber available, ideally a 1/4 Tsp. tincture chamber for 4-sided heating. Pack the chamber tightly, but not so tight as to block air. After packing, you can suck air through the vape (with no heat) to test whether the airflow is blocked.
      • The Pax3 chamber is large enough to hold about 1/2 Tsp. of loose tobacco, but using the whole chamber tends to only heat the outer edges and produce a very short, low-flavor vapor.
      • The Pax3 includes a smaller chamber intended for vaping tinctures. It is about 1/4 Tsp. in size, and using this smaller chamber creats a larger surface-volume ratio. Even using the small amount of tobacco that it can hold produces a larger amount of more flavorful vapor. It lasts about half of the amount of time as a cigarette, but is very fulfilling IMHO.
    • Turn on your vape and vape away. I found 3/4 maximum heat to be ideal. Less heat produced less vapor (but plenty of nicotine), while more heat produced a more smoke-like flavor even without burning the tobacco.
    • Note that even after the vapor stops coming out, nicotine is being released, so you can continue to inhale if you need to. I find this dissatisfying, as the lack of flavor means you won't realize you're getting nicotine until you get too much and experience tremors or facial flush. Using cloves (see below) allows you to feel when the nicotine hits your lungs, because the clove oil creates a tingling sensation.
  • Clove-Cigarette Vaping
    • The experience of a clove cigarette can be replicated very easily by grinding fresh whole cloves in an upside-down grinder and mixing them directly into your tobacco.
    • Approximately 1/3 clove to 2/3 tobacco is ideal. More clove is harsh on the lungs, but less clove may be good if you just want a hint of flavor.
    • Vaping with cloves will leave clove-oil residue in the vape, and it will taste like cloves for a few days.
    • In theory, mixing in whiskey, vanilla, or other flavorings and then allowing the tobacco to dry (ideally under dry heat like an oven with only the pilot light on) would produce a more "correct" clove cigarette experience, but that would be very time consuming.
  • E-Pipe
    • The simplest, best experience was using pipe tobacco in the main chamber of the Pax3, which should translate for any other dry-herb vape.
    • I only tried moist cherry-tobacco, which produced a very large amount of vapor that closely imitated pipe smoke, except with no ash-flavor reside left in your mouth. A single chamber of pipe tobacco also produced pipe smoke for much longer than the same amount of cigarette tobacco.
    • The amount of nicotine released was enough to get a buzz without inhaling into the lungs.
So, those are my notes on heat-not-burn with your own tobacco. I hope someone out there finds this helpful and maybe adds to it with their own research and experiences.

Nicotine stored in the refrigerator after 2 years ... is it still good?

Hello, I am from Argentina and I wanted to consult you ... I have had nicotine stored in the refrigerator for a long time and I wanted to know if it still works to make my liquids. Some time ago I stopped vaping but I have started smoking again ... this makes me sick and I decided to go back to vaping.
That is why I have the nic stored there for it to be preserved but I have doubts if it is still good to use and use it in the liquids that I am macerating now?

It has been saved for 2 years
