Is today the day Congress saves vaping in the USA?

Today US congress will vote on legislation which will effectively move the grandfather date for vaping products to the date at which regulations are issued.

Read this excellent summary by Sally Satel to see what's at stake with today's vote: Congress, Save E-Cigarettes From The FDA

"House Appropriations Committee’s agriculture subcommittee is set to consider the fiscal 2017 agriculture appropriations bill, which gives the FDA its spending authority. The subcommittee will consider a provision requiring FDA to change the February 15, 2007 date to the date on which the FDA’s final rule takes effect, probably later this year. Products on the market then, and new products substantially equivalent to them, wouldn’t have to file pre-market review applications."

Here's hoping!

Sadly since H.R.2058 is still sitting in a Health Sub Committee, likely No Help for Vapers.
Nice article, however the Financial consideration by Congress is simply to decide if the FDA's Budget Request Is Acceptable as is.
FDA Submits the Requested amount of Budget along with Sources of income to Cover Budget.:grr:

It doesn't, however, prevent one of our representatives from attaching a rider to the bill preventing the FDA from killing the industry. H.R. 2058 was designed as a stand alone bill.

Any idea when we can hear the results?

It could be weeks before it actually gets voted on. Once it hits the floor of the House and Senate, it's open for debate. As it's something that's going to be spending our tax dollars like mad, I expect we won't get a final "version" until sometime this summer.

Watching CSPAN

Nothing yet - unless missed earlier

However, I am totally frustrated at the way things are allow on the floor.

Voting on a Rules revision:
Electronic Voting called for
Then all hell breaks loose. As the Vote is taking place, members are voting........Meandering around the Room.
People going in/out in large numbers. Small groups forming as if last minute Deal making.
Constant Visual and audible disruption and Generally Chaotic.

In contrast to Business Decision making, Government Decision making is rather appalling.

Next up - Homeland Security - changes in Border Security - wow:ohmy:

Most of what I am seeing is dealing with premium cigars. This has some interesting information

Premium Cigar Exemption from FDA Included in Proposed Appropriations Bill | halfwheel

"Last year, language was included that would have changed the date in which all deemed tobacco products—cigars, pipe tobacco, electronic cigarettes and others—would be grandfathered. This time around, there’s no language that would change the predicate date, rather, only language that would exempt premium cigars from FDA regulation."

Also of interest

"It is expected that FDA will announce its regulations, which could include the regulation of premium cigars, by May 17. If the new rules are introduced after May 17, FDA would risk Congressional review that could delay the implementation until next year, after the new president takes office. At that point, FDA would also be risk having a new president with different views on how the executive agency should handle regulation, potentially comprising the entire regulation process."

Outside of the piece in Forbes I haven't been able to find anything related to e-cigs.

The whole thing with premium cigars becoming exempt, which were lumped in with pipe tobacco, electronic cigarettes and others, is the cigar industry and aficionados took this very seriously from the start, got the word out there, banded together and fought this with everything they had, unlike the vape industry and vapers.
