Just joined the weighing club.

After testing and weighing quantities from my precision glass syringes, which is how I have mixed for the past 6 months or so, I was surprised to see just how accurate that method was.

The scale puts all of the eyeballing to rest though, and the cleaning of the syringes too. I know this thread is not the only thread that has discussed weighing but my thanks to the OP for the inspiration.
Just have to figure the best way to drip from all of the 4 oz. size flavor bottles I have now. I'd hate to have to transfer all of them to smaller bottles.

Welcome to the club and its the best club you could have joined!!

Long term storage in plastic is not good anyway because of the leeching effect of plastic. I always transfer an oz into dripper bottles and keep the rest in glass for storage. Label your glass storage bottles and when you order refills just pour it into your glass storage bottles, just buy some boston rounds from amazon, I got these

Amazon.com: Amber Glass Bottle 4oz w/Lid (12 Pcs): Health & Personal Care

If you don't sell juice 4oz bottles of flavor will last you too long to keep in plastic..

Once again welcome to the club and happy weighing !!

Just mixed my first batches by weight. 4-30ml bottles, man, it went fast, and no syringes to clean up afterwards, yay.
I still drip my flavors, but for a 30 ml bottle of juice I don't think it advantageous to weigh them.
To begin with, I weighed 1mm of nic, pg, and vg, then multiplied the weight of each times the mm's I use to come up with the weight for each recipe.
I'm glad I made the switch. :)

When i mix with my digital scale, the only thing that's messed up is when i measure with 100 VG 60 mg nic base.
It's so heavy, that when i hit say 7ml on scale (7 grams), on my mixing beaker, it will only measure say 5 ml's.

Everything else is spot on, as i've tested weighing pg, vg and water , and using syringe it spot on.

So the only thing that throws off my mixing is when i have to do the 100 vg 60mg nic measurements. And it kind of sucks...

Sounds like someone is in the market for a new scale :D

VG weighs 1.249 grams/ml therefore your 100% VG 60mg nic will weigh 1.249 grams/ml. It sounds like you are assuming that VG weighs 1 g/ml.
7 grams of VG = 5.604 ml. If you want 7ml of VG you will need to measure 8.743 grams.

seem like it's me, i could sweear vg 1 ml is 1ml on (gram) on scale.
But hot rod says all vg is heavier, i will have to test that again.
But for sure the vg with nic is heavier.....lol anyway gonna have some beers and check it again.

I'm going to try jumping on the weight wagon. I picked up the scale mentioned several times on this thread ( Electronic Pocket Digital Scale 0 01g 300g Weight Precision Jewelry Scale US | eBay ). I checked it for accuracy with some scientific weights I had around. It would not rocognize the .01g ingot when I placed it on the scale but when I started with a .05g weight ( reading accurately at .05) and then added the .01 weight it read .06. So, for $8.49, I think it is pretty accurate :) Now I need to download the weight calculator (current one only does volume) and get this mass method rolling!

Edit, I tried putting a 200g weight on it and then pushed tare and added another 200g and it read accurately at 200g. So, as was questioned earlier, you can weigh recipe amounts greater than the scales max weight if you use the tare function between each ingredient and each ingredient is less than the scales max (to a theoretical maximum that the scale can support structurally I am sure).

I use JuiceCalculator and works perfectly.

All over the place
Why should I mix by weight when I have a syringe? Really.

To obtain the closest level you can get to absolute precision and repeat-ability. But then again, why use syringes or scales when you can use drops? Better precision with syringes than drops. I use syringes and drops but I long for the day when I will have much better control and freedom with a good balance/scale.

I use a scale for higher precision and really easy measuring.

I used to use precision glass syringes and although I think my mixes were very accurate and precise, eye strain (yep, old guy in need of glasses here) and clean up made the process less fun.
It's not very enjoyable trying to vacuum 40 or 50 ml of VG into a 50ml syringe IMO. Squirting 49 ml out of a bottle and then completing to the desired amount with a disposable pipette is considerably easier for me.

With a scale, I can literally almost kick back in my chair and just drip flavors into a bottle on the scale. Way less effort for me and faster too.

I sort of scoffed at the scale idea at first but then it struck me, a new toy (sweet), easier, higher accuracy, sure, why not, I'm in.
My poor lonely glass syringes now hate me :)

I beg to differ. I mix everything by weight. From 15ml up it is just more accurate imho.

people that mix by weight are making large batches. Gallons or more at a time. its not really worth trying to measure out 10 or 15 mL batches, unless you plan on scaling up that recipe to large batches.

Is there a good weight based mixing program available for Android devices? Please don't suggest one for a computer, I am not running out to buy a computer to mix eliquid. Thanks

On my phone, I use e-liquid calculator. It's not an app, but you can put a shortcut to the site on your screen, and it works well. Before I mixed by weight I used POTV on my phone, but it doesn't work by weight.
