Quick question. Samara Botane describes the absolute as " solid at room temperature ". So how do you measure out 1ml to make your concentrate.

It's not actually a solid it's a waxie paste like consistancy. Warm it to 150F (sit bottle in hot tap water) and it will thin to allow you to draw it up into a 1ml syringe.

For those who are interested, there is a new version of TA being offered by Mother's Milk, the makers of WTA's. It is most likely a different variety from Rustica since according to its description, it is derived from air cured American tobacco.

https://www.mothersmilkwta.com/index.php/catalog/absolute-ta-tobacco-absolute/

I've been in contact with DB over at mother’s milk and we've been discussing his offering of TA. After long discussions he has decided to offer a raw form of this TA at a very reasonable price. He was kind enough to send me a sample and my review follows.

This review is based on a 10% mixed down solution.

Consistence of the raw TA: Dark brown thick waxy like paste

Smell: Strong natural woody tobacco alkaloid with no chemical odor.

MixDown:
90% 50/50 PGA/PG, 10% tobacco absolute.

Mixes well with no chunks or large floating partials. Seem to separate with a dark brown top liquid and a lighter brown sediment layer on the bottom. There were no particles noticeable when the bottle was rotated. With no steeping the proportion of liquid to sediment was:

First day 2/3 liquid to 1/3 sediment
Second day 3/4 liquid to 1/4 sediment
3rd day 85% liquid to 15% sediment
Note: In my opinion with steeping all sediment will dissolve and is very acceptable.

Taste:
Based on using 3% of the mixed down 10% solution

Color: Milky amber (Sometimes referred to as cloudy)
A pure Tobacco absolute blended from Dark Fronto tobacco leaves. This TA boast a strong but smooth, true tobacco taste with hints of a grassy hay note and slight ash taste as well as an ever so slight sweetness on inhale. I noticed a particular ashy slight dryness on exhale which in my opinion is a desirable characteristic. Odor on exhale has an almost ashy type woodiness texture to it. This particular TA sits somewhere between a Virginia TA and a Nicxtaina rustica TA meaning it’s not as ashy as a Virginia and not as sweet as a rustica TA. This makes it a perfect all round TA that will work well for your traditional cigar, cigarette and pipe type tobacco vapes. In my opinion this would rate among one of the top shelf Tobacco Absolutes.

size: 5ml
Price: Reasonable and fair

At the 10% mix down, it is "Dark brown thick waxy like paste"..?

No my evaluation is based on a 10% mix down, it's raw form before a 10% mixdown is a waxie brown paste. Read the Mix: section for a description of the mixdown.

prepare your TA concentrate at a 10 - 1 ratio so that would be 1ml smara into 9ml base (PG/VG or PGA) and that makes your 10% TA concentrate solution.

then add 1 - 3 drops or start at 1% of your 10% TA concentrate solution directly into your juice.

as a side note a base of 50% PG and 50% PGA works the best. Otherwise you may get a cloudy mix due to the poor desolving of the TA materal into the base.
.

Wow! I finally get it! Now, I am off to use PGA instead of the 50/50 PG/VG!!! The alcohol will make all the difference in the way it dilutes! Thank you!

That all depends on how much Tobacco Absolute you use:vapor:

After reading a post this morning oven in the tobacco thread I mixed a 10% mix of Rustica. A little strong for me at that point but not bad on the coils at all. I mostly use it at 1% to bump up other flavors and I can't tell any difference as far as the coils are concerned.

Just to clearify I beleive the conversation was adding 10% of a 10% TA concentrate to create a stand alone vape. I just want to make it clear that you were not vaping a straight 10% concentrate.

But you are correct about actually creating the concentrate from raw TA. The old norm was 1 - 3 drops of raw TA per 10ml base made up your concentrate which was about 1%. The new thinking is to use 10% raw TA to 90% base to make up the concentrate and add 2 - 3% of that to your juice mix.

Correct, and you're right I didn't make that very clear. If my math is right that would be 1% of the Rustica as received from the supplier.

I decided to revisit the 10% of the 10% solution (Or 1% of Raw Rustica) I had made earlier to see what would happen if I cut the percentage down to half. It is still a good vape by itself but somewhat on the light side. The 10% is more like a full bodied tobacco. I like it a lot as a stand alone and by no means it is too strong. If I was to mix it with other flavors though, I would go a minimum of 5% - 6% of the diluted version to have a meaningful impact.

As a stand alone 10% is a bit more then I prefer but none the less that's a very reasonable amount.
