DVM=Digital Volt Meter.
Also, in the 200 setting, put your test leads together and check if it reads anything other than 0. If it does, you have to subtract that number from your atty readings.

Although... Am I the only one who feels like we're getting trolled a bit here? I mean good lord, 4 3mm silica wicks would be the size of a crayola crayon... And you're using 2? Even with 3 wraps of wire on the thing, that would take like 2 inches of wire...

alright.. i did that. it said 2.0 so i subtract that from 1.7 means my atty's at .3 ohms?

When you touch your meter leads together, are your fingers touching the metal parts of the leads? Your fingers, and the oils on them, can wreak havoc on the ability of a meter to read correctly... It sounds like your leads are messed up. Shouldn't be reading anywhere near 2.0... Maybe .1 - .3
0.3 ohms on a full battery in a mechanical (~4 volts) is like 13 amps and 52 watts. If you're using dual coils in parallel, that's 26 watts per coil. Still way too high. Of course, there will be some voltage drop on the battery when under load, but you're still way out of bounds with those numbers.

Hey, I wasn't far off about the size of your wicks being the size of crayola crayons! That's silly fat... LoL
1.7 Ohms is probably the right number then, considering how fat your wicks are... Even with the kanthal triple up like that, it doesn't necesarilly equate to 1/3 the resistance of a single strand...
with kable's help i believe we've come to the conclusion that im at .3 ohms..
ok ok ok.. so maybe i was a little over zealous with the ohm reading.. perhaps i oughta learn to use my DVM first.. but Kable really helped me in learning to work this thing and get a more accurate reading of the resistance on my atty. perhaps i should rename this thread "teach me to work my multimeter"
