I understand not doing it for free but $5 come on. If people were willing to pay I could make $100 an hour for perfect macro, micro, nano and super nanos. Hell ill also wick them for $5 total.

I understand some people have problems with shaking, but if your not 1 all you need to do is practice. I was so bad at building when I started, but jus t kept building until I was always near perfect. Now that my coils are to my exact specs I rarely(2weeks or so) change them. I used to change them twice a day

So i build my coils, but i wanted someone get my wraps tighter, so i asked a friend, and he recommended me too one of our vape shops. the guy there said $5 per coil and 5 for wicking, is this just outrageous or whats the normal price for a build

I actually don't consider $15 per dual coil setup with Kanthal to be outrageous. You've got a shop doing this, they have overhead and you have to also factor in time for talking to the customer and the risk involved.

Compare it to juice. I make my own juice for about (if I remember right when I calculated it a while back) $0.05 a ml, so $1.50 per 30 ml. Shops that make juice probably spend less on ingredients but they typically charge at least $10 per 30 ml up to say $30. That's a heck of a markup, but they have overhead and also hype for the expensive ones :)

So, you can spend the extra money for the convenience of having the work done for you and saving the time it takes, or you could learn how to do it yourself and save that money.

I chose to do it myself. I get a product I can make any way I want, as often as I want and it's so cheap it's almost free. Works for me :thumb:

Fifteen bucks? When they want you to build it... and they want a lesson in how to build it... and they want to bum some liquid to try it out... and they want you to tweak it cause it doesn't "feel" right... and they want you to wick it again when they dry hit... and they want to bum some more liquid to try it again... and they hog your time so you can't help anyone else...

Yeah - twenty bucks sounds about right.

Seriously...I own 20 RBAs at this moment, and have had a maybe an additional 10. So I'm not new to building. I have spent up to 40 minutes on some of these builds. Of course not everyone wants to spend that kind of time, and avoid those attys. But, I don't think I would want to do this for free everyday for everyone I know. Really, I don't blame the shop. An employee is doing a service for customers who may or may not have bought their set up there when s/he could be selling attys, mods and juice to other customers.

It's been a while since I've gone in for builds but my local B & M, Detroit Vapor Shop, was completely rebuilding my Erlkönigins and Taifuns for $3.00 a pop (coils and wicks) and would re-wick them for free. It's been a while because I've since gotten better at doing them myself so his price may be up to $5.00 now.

It's a value added service 'cause he sells a ....-load of high-end hardware and quality e-liquid. I think his receipts average about $87 per customer

$15.00 sounds ridiculous to me but if your local shop builds to each customer's spec and folks will pay it, more power to him, I guess.

ETA:
You have to bring your own e-liquid or buy a bottle - he's definitely not giving away a single drop - and 99% of his customers got their gear there to begin with.

If you think that's nuts, you should try getting a plumber to come out and snake a sewer line on Labor Day weekend... $325 for 30 minutes of work...

Seriously tho, they will charge what the market will bear. As long as people will pay it, they will charge it. It seems high to me, considering for the cost of three or four coils you can buy wick, wire, and a coil jig, and make a hundred coils (give or take).

Um, that's insane. It takes minutes to build a coil. Get yourself a coiling jig and it will be much easier.

Agreed. Unless you have issues with your hands you should look into wrapping them for yourself. My hands are beat up from 30+ years of using them as hammers and wrenches, and I have reduced sensation in my fingertips, but I can still whip out a coil with my eyes closed (after a LOT of practice).

would you recommend a kuro? and can you get spaced out builds on it for nickel?

I haven't used the Kuro, but I do have a coilmaster, and it's the cat's meow for what I use it for. Thinner diameter wire can bunch up and overlap itself (from what I have read) but I pretty much wrap with 22 to 27 mostly and have not experienced that issue.

the obvious answer is learn how to do your own . it really isn't that hard and very fulfilling . u don't need much equipment at all heck u can usually use things you have laying around like small screw drivers the kanthal can be had cheap other than that a good pair of tweezers and what ever u are wicking with.

If you were to honestly compare that to other types of contract labor, ie plumber, electriction, auto mechanic, cell phone or computer repair,ect.. Actually becomes quite resonable. Time and materials. $10 is a bargin.
