This ruling is not about diethylene glycol.

Even so, FDA didn't contend that diethylene glycol was a carcinogen.

The trace carcinogens (equivalent concentration to that in NRT gum) found were a separate issue.

This ruling relates primarily to propylene (and dipropylene) glycol as an ingredient in liquid and spray sanitizers and pet flea treatments. There are bound to be many other rulings on this substance including as a food additive.

Has anyone found a ruling relating to the theatrical fog machines? That would be more on point.

Unless I've lost my mind, the FDA does not care about propylene glycol.

The concerns in the FDA testing results had to do with a couple of carcinogenic nitrosamines, which are also found in pretty much every other smoking cessation product due to the fact that they all use nicotine derived from tobacco, which is where the trace amounts of nitrosamines are coming from. The amount of these carcinogens found in the test results was pretty much negligible compared to how much of those you would find in a regular cigarette, and it is doubtful that it would even be considered a health risk at the levels found.

In addition, the FDA test results found one cartridge out of the 18 or 19 they tested that had less than 1% of diethylene glycol, although they neglected to say how MUCH less than 1% was found. Diethylene glycol is a toxic substance at much higher concentrations, and this was probably the main concern from the test results.

If you're going to do a press release of some kind, please make sure you understand the situation.
The last thing we need is to look like kooks who don't know what we're talking about.

Hmmm. If I'm reading these things correctly, Diethylene glycol was only found in 555. Nothing was tested toxic as far as the actual device, right?

hmmm , i didn't know that it was only found in 555 , interesting...

No Brainer---It is not just PG and even if it was this following statement in the report spells it out clearly.

"As a result of this review, EPA has determined that products containing propylene glycol and dipropylene glycol alone are eligible for reregistration. Products containing propylene glycol and dipropylene glycol in combination with other active ingredients will be reregistered only when all of the active ingredients have been determined to be eligible for reregistration. "

So I do not see the issue you are talking about unfortunalty.

Don't do that! It was only found in one cartridge of 555 from SmokingEverywhere. They tested 13 samples and this was the only one with anything remotely carcinogenic. Aside from the trace amounts of nitrosamines which would be common to all liquids not using synthetic nicotine.

And money.
So, did the FDA's, "Test," show anything toxic about the device itself?

Simple answer: No

I'm not sure if they were testing the devices themselves or just received the devices for testing the juice. Other studies (more detailed and thorough) have concluded that the devices are safe, then again they also concluded the liquid was safe as well (which it is but it's about "spin").

Grimm, no, dumping is way too dangerous. You really need to think of safety and you don't want to harm the environment and the children that may come in contact somehow with that dangerous liquid. I'd gladly take it from you and dispose properly. No charge. Just mail it to me. :):)

Exactly.

Children are always looking for that 555 hit.
And they will drink gutter water if it tastes like 555 juice.

Or if it tastes like Nicotrol mint flavored gum.
