All these comments about the 28 being thick enough to pull a truck :) got me thinking. The reason I found this thread in the first place is because a couple of the "big boys" in the genesis community had posts saying that we haven't harnessed the true power of a genny until we use #500 mesh and 28 Kanthal. So I checked Feebay and came up short. I did an ECF search and this thread came right up. The rest is history. Now that I set up almost everything I own with it, it's really nice to have shared the experience with everyone instead of posting and saying "hey check this out". :toast:

I'm curious to what ohm coil you guys find to have the Best flavor when vaping, using Silica wick, as well as mesh, and with what gauge wire for each, let me know what you all think please, you had to have used 32,30,28AWG Kanthal to give your answer. For Silica I'm at 28 & 30awg @ 1.5ohms,,, and for using mesh I'm still up in the air from anywhere from .9-1.6ohm, with 28awg,, just curious to get some opinions on this for something I'm messing with. Thanks

Would love to know how you wrap this as well. For whatever reason my 32 decided to get a hot leg near the positive post, with the 32. Tried to work with it but it wouldn't adjust and was killing the flavor. Then i tried the 28, didn't want to mess with it a lot tonight as had plans. Tried a wrap with the 28 and wow that is thick, had to go back to the 32 for now just so I had something that worked tonight.

Any suggestions on the 28? How to wrap, etc.?

I received my wire today... and I think I have enough kanthal wire to last me for my whole vaping career, lol. Anyway, I don't have my 500 mesh yet so around it goes on what I am using at the moment. Wrapped the wire around the Cobra allen tool 6 times and slid it on the wick. Then finger tighten the coil on to the wick by twisting the coil. It came out to 1.3 ohms and vaped it at 3.7 volts. It was an okay vape at 3.7 volts with a long draw. The vape got better as I moved up to 4.7 volts with a normal draw. I decided I wanted to stay at 3.7 volts so I removed one coil which came out to 1.1 ohms and it produced quite a nice glorious cloud of vapor. :D

The dril bit method seems to be a good approach. I have not tried it myself yet, but this wire is going to require it IMO. Just find a drill bit that the smooth end that goes into the chuck of the drill, fits in to the wick hole of your atty almost perfectly. Then insert the bit into the wick hole. Then wrap the coil around the bit as if it's your wick. This gives you a very solid surface to work with and makes it easy to wrap a perfect coil every time. At least according to the vids I've watched about it.

Received my package also, thank you guys so much for putting this together, have some 500 coming also and m really looking forward to putting these pieces all together. Will definately try the drill bit method, I think wrapping coils with this around something solid will definately be required. Once it's set though I can't imagine it won't be really really durable! Thanks again !

That's to much silica for me, it gives me to much silica taste,, but,,,, I have found with using the 28 Wire that yes it is hot at first, so give it time to break in,,, .9ohm is to hot for me personally, I do 10 coils for 1.5ohms around the 3/32 drill bit,, no drill needed just the bit and wrap the wire around the smooth end to make up my 10 coil, even at the 10 coil 1.5ohm I still have to break it in, takes me like half a day to break in this 10-coil @ 1.5ohms too,,, just like you have to break in say a new HH-357 , I find making your own coils even takes a bit longer of a break in period with this heavier gage wire. So when it feels to hot at first vape it for a while, maybe dont inhale till it breaks in, but for some reason it does break in and then is excellent, give then some more break in time with this wire guys.

What genesis do you use the 3/32 drill bit for? Thinking I may pick up a bit for the cobra tried wrapping by hand and the wire is really stiff. Would be nice to know the bit size and not have to buy several different kinds.

Thanks for the tip about break-in time for a 28g coil. Actually that's Aunt Lydia's bamboo on the 28g coil. I was going for 1.5 ohms, my ohm meter showed it at 1.6 and but when I put it on the PV and fired it up it was only .9, stupid me, I forgot to subtract the meter's internal resistance when I check it.
