Ive had my two attys for several months and never clean them..just blow them out once a day and they are still going strong..
I don't perform any kind of maintenance on my attys, I just use them until they slow down or die. I have some last 6 weeks, some 6 days, there doesn't really seem to be any consistency. I keep the ones that merely slow down, in case the supply line ever dries up, I can try and breathe some life back into them. But when I think of analogs running $6/pack, and I was smoking a pack a day, I'm not terribly disappointed if I only get a week's use out of an atty.
I am not sure a dry burn is a good idea on the M401. I tried it and now the bad taste will only go away for a little bit and then comes back. My M403 atomizer I have never dry burnt on and it tastes fine. I'm not sure but I think there may be a subtle difference between the 401 and the 403. The 403 has a much easier draw and has not developed a bad taste.
Hey Jim...
Do you drip exclusively, or do you also use carts?
I have found that the more I mess with my attys trying to clean them the more of them I have lost. I went thru a lot of 901's in the beginning. Now I just leave it alone, giving a dry burn every so often and so far the one I have now is 7 weeks old and doing great.
For my 510, I have lost one atty, all my fault. The one I am using now is going on 8 weeks old and still vapes like new. I give it a dry burn every now and then too.
Jim, when I used the canned air on my 901's it instantly quit working. How do you use it?
I don't hit them with full pressure. Just a light pull on the trigger. When using pure alcohol, you need very little air to evaporate it. And any leftover alcohol will vape out.
And I agree with your first remark. I too, think that people are cleaning their attys too much.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Don't throw anything away. Most atomizers can be brought back to life unless there is a mechanical fault. Check the atomizer with a volt/ohm meter to see what the resistance reads. If the resistance is below 10 or 12 ohms the coil is still functioning and just needs to be cleaned. If the resistance is much higher than that the cleaning will do no good. I've had great success soaking the atomizers in alcohol for several days to a week.
Most clogged atomizers will respond to this cleaning. Eventually the atomizers will get too bad to clean due to the build up of carbon on the coil. There are more extreme methods available.
Kevin
Well I just lost my first atty today and glad I found your post! I measured the resistance and it's at 10 ohms. So by your expertise, it's just gummed up? I sprayed a bit of contact cleaner in there and will now soak it for a few days in achohol - that should remove any of the contact cleaner. Then I'll do a dry burn. Does this sound like it should work? I'd love to think I can bring it back!
Just out of curiosity, what are the "more extreme methods" ?
I hear alot of people are having trouble with the TW 510 atty's that come in 5 packs.
Please, show me where this is posted. I just ordered 10 from there and hope I haven't made a mistake.
