I am wondering if I can connect the 510 passthrough directly to a usb port by taking the in line battery out of the loop? Seems that the circuit board on mine is fried (smells burnt) and the unit is no longer working. So I think I will cut the wires, remove the battery box, reconnect to the wires to the usb connector.

All comments and/or concerns anyone has about this are greatly appreciated.

Or I could send the unit back to my supplier considering I have only used it for less than a week.

never worked for me.
I did cut the battery and reconect the wires.Never worked.

Okay, so what is the problem with the unit? I don't have a battery tester, can't check the voltage, nor do I have a working PT so I can't test the batt that way.

Maybe the problem is with the switch? I guess that could be faulty.

I thought the problem here was that the usb port itself could not supply the needed current to fire the atty. The battery is there as a buffer. the plus side to being wired is never having that dead battery.

Just read the specs: 500ma max

USB has more than enough voltage to power an atty. USB standard is 5V out.

I did the direct connect, it worked for about 5 minutes and then it stopped working. Maybe I cooked the entire unit.

One thing is for sure ... I can't send it back since making the modification to the PT. Good thing it only cost $20.00.

Yep, someone else tried that and the switch burned out. That unit was not designed to run at 5 volts at 1.5 amps.

I'm waiting on my PureSmoker passthrough to come in. I have been using one I made and I want one that looks a lot better. The Joye-510 passthrough is a piece of junk.

Well, it appears that the unit is fried. Seems that the circuit board for the in line battery got burnt.

I decided to bypass the batt and did a direct wire to the atomizer connector and that fried the switch.

Anyways this forced me into doing a complete mod for my usb PT.

Since I needed the connector for the atomizer I utilized the one from the fried unit. What a core to rip this thing apart.

I bought a heavy duty toggle switch and I followed the instructions at
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/battery-mods/21589-line-tutorial-class.html to make the PT.

The switch is big but works quite well, it has a built in light.

I used an old plastic toothpick case for housing the modded PT. It doesn't look the greatest - I think a 10 year old could do a better job, but I don't care as the PT won't be used in a public place - heck all I want is my vapor.

Additionally I bought a $25 4 port hub for the computer. Seems to work okay, my computer hasn't blown up - yet.

Wow talk about vapor action, incredible!:thumb:

Make sure not to connect USB directly to motherboard USB port because you have a high chance to fry your computer. Get an external powered usb hub.

Or use a mains-to-5V-USB adapter. I use one for my PT when on my desktop to not risk any computer USBs, motherboarded or external. I don't have the link for it, but I got mine for about $4, including shipping. Works great. I'm using a 510 PT as is, not with the batt box removed, but also a Greensmoke PT, with is direct 5V. Both work very well, and I don't take up or risk computer USB ports.
