7 Biggest Electronic Cigarette Myths

By Kristin Noll-Marsh

There are many myths and misconceptions about electronic cigarettes. Let's seperate fact from fiction.

Myth #1 - Electronic cigarettes are a threat to children/teens.
FALSE.
Where it comes from:
Legislators and anti-smoking groups assume that children will be drawn to the “electronic gadgets,” the fruit/candy flavors and ease of access on the internet & mall kiosks.
Why it’s a wrong:
First, they aren’t easy to purchase on the internet. A credit card or bank account is required. So, unless the child steals a parent’s credit card and then hides the card statement later on, the risk of being discovered is high. The majority of kiosk vendors have already implemented a policy of forbidding sales to minors. The opportunity for minors to purchase electronic cigarettes at those kiosks is no better than purchasing tobacco cigarettes at a gas station – probably less.

Excellent article Kristin...I've posted this on my Facebook, hopefully people will read it.

Did you ever get your last article published?

Thanks! It was published but never picked up by mainstream media.

I have just added this to StumbleUpon. (I was actually introduced to my vaping journey when a stumble led me to the blu homepage, over six months ago.)

PS - for those unfamiliar with StumbleUpon
StumbleUpon.com: Personalized Recommendations to Help You Discover the Best of the Web

Good idea! I do have a stumble account, too.

I often get PMs and posts requesting to repost my articles on their blog, website, Facebook etc.

The answer is always YES! Please do!! (Just please attribute the story and link back to it, please.)

I write these articles to get out positive stories and facts about ecigs to benefit the vaping community, so I depend upon the community to spread the word!

Suggestions on where to post a link to the articles:
Facebook
MySpace
Twitter
StumbleUpoon
Digg
Your blog
Your web site
Other ecig forums
Other online communities you belong to
In emails to legislators
On comment sections on anti ecig articles
In emails to newspaper editors/Letters to the editor

Thanks for helping spread the word!

Yet another great article from Kristin. I do wish you would have mentioned that the FDA study did not detect any TSNA's or DEG in the vapor itself. I think it is also important to note that TSNA levels are reported in parts per gram, but a gram (ml) of e-liquid is used at least 10 times longer than a gram of cigarette tobacco.

I also think there is no way to overstate that carbon monoxide and the residual solid particulate products of combustion ("tar") are the defining ingredients of smoke and easily the most hazardous. Since electronic cigarettes do not involve combustion, those risks have been eliminated entirely along with the fire hazard.

Please feel free to add these points in the comments section on the article!!
