I figured the 2.5v step down would get it to a more workable voltage. I agree the 400 mAh is not much (says 500 on website) but I can get the rechargeables from anywhere really and I have a charger already. Maybe A pt with my 9v 1000mA AC wall charger would be better? Heck I don't know...pretty new to ecig stuff and not super versed in batteries and electrical jargon but I'm learning pretty fast :) Thanks all for the education.

I am not a huge modder or anything but I thought I would throw it out there that I would love to see more easily accessible batteries used in mods. Dont get me wrong, I love my lithiums but it would be pretty sweet to run to the drug store and grab some rechargeable batteries and not have to wait three days for them to get to my mailbox.

I am not up on the technical aspects, but from my reading I gather that the lithium batteries are idea because they have decent energy density ( mAh's ) while still providing
the amps and higher discharge rates needed to push atty/carto. Regular batteries that have the necessary amps and discharge rates have very low mAh ratings.

Most devices require 2 to 3 amps for the element to heat up properly, Your 9V 1amp AC adapter might work but would probably overheat.
There are a lot of 12V 3amp AC adapters available and I have been thinking about trying one of these in a plug in VV box mod.
See my thread on the 4.2V PT -- http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modders-forum/175604-4-2v-pass-thru.html

Whoops, I meant the Puck. It uses NiMH batteries.

OK Cap...now I see...yea the puck could be cool but to me it seems a little bulky (2x 4AA boxes if I'm not mistaken) but yes that was the idea...just using cheapo AA batts but the 9v would be more compact although obviously not doable.

I did order a TI PTN04050C 12-W 3.3/5-V Input Wide Output Adjustable Boost Converter sample. I'm thinking that might put me up where I hope to be 5-6v...need to do more research on that though...I prolly won't incorporate it at first but we'll see.

actually i'm too cheap for a multimeter, I just built it, there is a hole in the front of the 3aa box for the vv dial, when I first made it I made sure I used a old cartomizer, hit the button and of course it was too high, dialed it down two or three turns till it hit the way I liked it, been using it ever since.

A multimeter is on my list of things to get, but looking at the board on ebay I knew it would be so easy to build, so I ordered it, it came in, when the board came in I was itching to build it but was having a hard time finding something for it to fit in, I had a 3aaa 5v boxmod kit that I got from madvapes that I hadnt built yet, all I needed was a 2aa box, which I ran around the corner to radio shack to get. I didnt have to modify the 2aa box hardly at all, I just drilled a small hole for the battery wires to run through and bypassed the switch(i didnt trust it to handle 7.4v)

I also have the sample from TI for the evercool mod, and since I never built the 5v mod from madvapes I still have the mini 5x7 circuit board which will work for it.

the instant gratification from the chip from ebay was well worth it, I really have little to no soldering skills, and built a vv mod on my third build for around 20bucks.( I already had the 14500 battery's for my 2aa box mod from madvapes)

some tips that worked for me are to order the 510 battery connectors with the wires already attached from mad vapes, after that it is all down hill.

also the switches from radio shack are super cheap, my vv mod looks like a little detonator with the radio shack switch and the cartomizer sticking out of it.

I still have some 18650's that I want to use to build a mod, and a case coming from china that will hold 2 18650's I might use that to build the evercool.

as far as being cheap with the batteries, order from china and wait, you can get 2 14500's for around 5, and 18650's for almost the same, just order them and forget about it it, in about 20-30 days you'll have them. check out the deals and steals page in this forum and you will find 14500's for cheap, ebay also has them just make sure they are protected.

ordering cheap stuff from china with free or almost free shipping is fun, by the time it comes in you have forgotten that you ordered it. I havent had a package not arrive, or at least none that I remember, some one said on this forum that do not order anything from china with money you cannot afford to lose. I believe in that, so most of my china orders are in the 10-20 range for electronic gadgetry.
