So I work in Ad/web Design and EVERYONE including my bosses have no problem with me vaping in my office....except for ONE [edited] secretary at the front of our offices. All of a sudden she acts like she's being tear gassed the minute she steps into the building and starts making choking noises like a freakin cat trying to cough up a hair ball the size of a bowling ball. She immediately starts spraying perfume or lysol like she's trying to cover up the smell of death in the office. Now, I am not chucking clouds in here by any means and I am not sitting in a cloudy desk at all, prob take a tute every 30 min or so. She even makes it a point to let every one know that her chest is hurting and she can't stand the smell and anytime she walks by my office she holds her nose like she's jumping into the ocean. FYI I usually have some sort of coffee, cereal, or berry juice going. My other coworkers mentioned it often smells like a Starbucks (when I have coffee flav.) and actually take big 'sniffs' when they come by my office just to admire the aroma. I quit smoking about 4 months after I started working here and have been cig free for about a year and a half. The designated smoking area is all the way on the other side of the building completely on the opposite end of my office. I save a ton of time by not having to go out while I work on my clients designs in the comfort of my office. I know that I will probably have to start going out to vape just to avoid her drama and over-exageration of the issue so I guess this is more of a rant then anything. I know that I was lucky enough to vape indoors at work as most do not have this as an option but for those that have, any one ever come across this at their work place. -end rant

Ya sorry some poeple are gonna be like that. I was lucky for my first 6 months where I worked, vaping was so new and everyone wanted me to quit I was able to vape at my desk. Not so anymore, most company write it into the handbook, vape in the smoking section. Meh I would have caved so many times that first 6 month :( Hope it sorts out good for ya.

Yea and the problem I run into when I do go outside to vape is everyone is smoking and second hand smoke becomes an issue and I usually end up smelling like cig...come home and my wife asks if Ive been smoking again...SMH, she wants to believe me but hard to make a case when my clothes/hair smell like cigs. Catch 22. Thanks for the reply though, guess Ill just take it one day at a time.lol

No one at work knows that I vape, but I do it inside anyway. I'm able to vape on the sly (when no one is around or in the bathroom). But I work at a very small company, so it might not be as easy for you to get away with it. :/

My best friend is pretty sensitive to vapor, I guess the flavorings. But I assume your coworker isn't like that because she's spraying Lysol and such in the air. If that doesn't bother her, the vapor shouldn't. And it only really bothers my friend if she's in the same room with me and my husband and we're both chain vaping.

You should take a look at whatever she was spraying around to cover up the "smell". Whatever it was probably has PG and/or VG in it along with a bunch of other crap that's probably worse for her than the vapor she's complaining about.

I'd rather people just came out with it and said "I don't like you vaping, because x,y,z"
Sadly, it makes too many non-smokers mad that people now vape. They hate us for finding an alternative solution to a dangerous habit and think we should have quit or die being a pathetic low-willpower subspecies. Most of them believe the scaremongering, of course.

Yea, she said it bothers her allergies. I asked her if the lysol and perfume bothers them also....her answer was "not as bad as that vape thing!" I could of gone back and fourth with her on this, but not worth it, she's on a mission.

Do you tend to vape at 20+ watts?

I found it concerning enough a long time ago when I realised a coworker could smell my vape.

I keep my vape in the 5 to 10 watt region.

My advice.. Start vaping unflavored at work, buy a bottle, show it to her, tell her you are sorry if you caused her any problems and that you switched to unflavored/unscented while at work for her...

As for her chest problems, my mom has a PG allergy, she knew this before I even started vaping, I only vape max VG so I can vape freely around her.

Edit* a lot of people think it's actually smoke, my mom thought it was a pipe for the longest time and kept offering me lighters ^__^ Took me like 6 months of reminding her it wasn't actually smoke...

Hehe I found this thread funny :)

I meet a lot of unreasonable people through my work as well and I have realised a long time ago it serves me no use stressing about things I can not change. So.. good on you for quitting the cigarettes. Regretfully when you're out and about with other smokers you may think to yourself "That smells nice. I'd like a drag." I do. But heck, you've found something far better and tastier :)

Thanks guys. Im at 70w on my wisemec normally and i crank it down to about 50 when I'm in the office...and yea, she actually thought it was smoke the first time(one coworker thought I was smoking weed at one point, hahhaaha, smh)For now Ill just step out so I don't disturb her world. Might give the flavorless a shot sometime though. As far as it upsetting her allergies, not sure about that one. I only vape in my office which is about 40-50ft away from her front desk, and she says it bothers her all the way up there. Still might play her game and hold my nose and cough when she sprays her perfume and lysol, which I think is more of an irritant than the vapor, since the others in the office don't seem to like it when she sprays, which creates more problems/fingers towards me due to the fact that she says she sprayed because of the vapor smell.

I agree, I do find the smell of my coworkers Camel Turkish golds to be enticing and they always ask if I want one...so far I have respectfully denied them, but damn it does bring back memories sometimes. Any ways, I thought it'd be a good laugh for some. I always find it humorous when she over- exaggerates when I see her and Im vaping. Cheers

I usually don't recommend this but it's apparent that this coworker is in need of an accident , a dropped banana peel at the top of a steep staircase has worked well for me in the past . I have had two coworkers silenced at my job due to taking an unfortunate "header" down a flight of stairs.

Just my opinion

Perhaps keep handy the scientific study that shows second hand vaping has less volatile compounds than normal human breath. The coworker might not care about such info, but supervisors ought to.

If I were in a company that sought to curtail/eliminate indoor vaping, and wanted to play hardball, I'd be as gentle and reasonable as I could, up to a point. After that, anything anyone at any point introduces into the air, and I'd be seeking elimination as only resort given the way exhaled eLiquid vapor was treated.
