The tacos they eat in Mexico have little resemblance to what most of the rest of the world considers "tacos."
You ain't kidding.

From what I've been seeing on these "taco" threads, some people don't even know what a real taco is.
Go down to Tijuana and get a taco from a real taco stand, and then go back home and eat some Taco Bell.

I think you'll see the difference.

Give me a side of maple syrup and I'm going to join your DH in his quest.
And the patty is obviously sausage, for those that think it is some kind of beef patty.
:)

I don't think they have those in Norway or Iceland. The patties tend to fall apart when buried.

Always wondered how people in those days figured out that a certain kind of shark was poisonous, then less poisonous when boiled, and somewhat not poisonous when boiled a second time.

I can answer that.

I lived on an out-island in the carribbean for a few years, very basic survival stuff. The species of jack fish there have a certain parasite that invades their skeleton, main bone going down center of body.

When you catch one, they put a piece of it out for the dogs. If the dogs live, it's safe to eat.

This is most likely how it was done in the olden days too.

Hey I do canine rescue, but that's what was done there.

While I hate Los Angeles, being that I was born and raised in San Diego...
I still must respect your taco knowledge.
:)

We actually have authentic tacos here in Reno. One that is quite well known, the family as been here forever, but there are other little tiny places with great food where no one speaks English. Was also have Basque restaurants. There are lots of Basque people descended from shepherds who worked on ranches. Trivia time: UNR is the only university in the US that has a Basque Studies major.

The great melting pot of the US landed many ethinicities in very unexpected places.

For example by blood I am irish/native american but I was adopted by a 100% Ukrainian family (immigrants and naturalized citizens) and I am in the middle of Louisiana.

Yep I do a mean gumbo AND some pretty good perogies!

Cal State Dominguez-Hills is the only University in the US that offers Computer Technology/Homeland Security as a bachelors. And I do have authentic taco stands less than three blocks from my house. Just try to ignore the gunshots. This is a nice neighborhood, ones close by are so so at best at times.
