A Little Overwhelmed...

About a year-and-a-half ago, I bought an e-cig kit from a mall kiosk when I was trying to cut down from my 2 packs a day. I hadn't done much research (dumb mistake) so I had no way of knowing just how many types of e-cigs were really out there. In short, it was an "impulse purchase".

I was only mildly satisfied with my e-cig, and the inconsistency of its effect finally caused me to stop using it after about 6 months. The throat hit would only happen once in a while, and to me that was the deal-breaker. Also, the cartridges were nowhere near close to the duration the company claimed, and the batteries were so short-lived that I felt I couldn't rely on the thing any longer.

Now that I'm researching e-cigs, I am not only surprised but admittedly overwhelmed at the amount of them that are out there, and I don't know where to begin. I've spent over a week reading review after review, and I'm scratching my head. Even the "highest rated" e-cigs seem to have such vast differences in their reviews, so I don't know what to believe.

My three biggest concerns: throat hit, cartridge life, and customer service (particularly ease of ordering cartridges, etc.). I'm not as concerned about how they look, what types of chargers they have, two-vs-three piece design, etc.

Any input or suggestions? Thank you!

One of your main concerns should also be battery life.

I use passthroughs and cartomizers when at home, and I have two Joye eGo batteries (1000mah) on order and should receive them tomorrow (from cignot.com). The reviews I've read here state the eGo batteries will last 8 to 12 hours. I'll be happy if I can get 3 hours from an eGo, as it would be much better than 1/2 to 1 hour with the cheapies I bought when I first tried out e-cigs (Smokeless Delite and Volcano).

Read through the threads here, and there are tons of YouTube videos you could watch. You'll find lots of information.

Based on your criteria, my first recommendation would be a good 5 volt PV using 801 /BE112 atomizer. 6-7 hours on a battery charge and great throat hit. Not in the same league as a 5 volt PV but much better than what you had before would be an eGo. Here is a site that summarizes various mod type PV's. Not all of them are 5 volt, however:

I used to recommend 510s and the like, but I find most people (myself included) move on so quickly to the eGo/Riva/Hello 016 type that starting with a 510 has come to seem a needless stop along the way.

Any one of the three is pretty much a clone of the other two, except that the Hello 016 has a 1300mAh battery (as opposed to the eGo's 650mAh or the Riva's 750mAh); that lasts most people all day, but on the down side their atomizers are fused together with their cones, which locks you into using their atomizer/cone arrangement or doing without the cone, which is a tad funny-looking. Also, Hello 016 kits are typically sold with only one battery.

Keep in mind that many vendors sell models that are rebranded, meaning they might not actually say the common name of what they're selling, but something they made up. The two most popular ecig models now are the 510 and the KR808-D1 (KR8). Check the model specific forum to see other choices. (Ego is just a bigger battery 510).

The other big difference is in using a cartridge/atty combo or a cartomizer.

Cartridge = there will be an atomizer and a cartridge that holds the juice in a filler which in addition to the battery will mean using a 3 piece model.

Cartomizer = is one piece that has the atomizer and juice in one unit, thus making the model you're using a 2 piece.

Welcome stormchaser :D I did basically the same thing. I purchased a really bad e cig not realizing there were so many choices out there! When I received it I was SO excited...until I took my first drag. Ugh! It tasted awful and had too much nic for what I needed so I started getting all light headed. I then purchased a Joye 510 and haven't looked back. It is great! Now I'm waiting to receive my eGo. Just my opinion but, I would go with eGo.

This is what I've learned so far. the only thing that really separates e cigs one from another is the atomizer. Other than that its only about battery life. I have read over and over that the best atomizer are made by joye and its their 510 atomizer that is the best thing out there. Unless they have come out with something else which I have not heard of. So... know there is only one of two ways to go. Either the joye 510 which is small and has poor battery life. Or... the joye EGO which has the same atomizer but bigger and better battery life. These to e cig are exactly the same thing except for the battery life. Now, there is another option if money is a problem. The Riva, the riva is kinda a rip off of the EGO. It looks just the same but has a bit more battery life. I just bought one and I love it. I do use the joye 510 atomizer with and its perfect. The reason I bought it was because it was so cheap. I picked up a double kit for $29.99. One more thing.. the joye 510, joye EGO and Riva all have interchangeable parts.

I can't completely agree that the only difference is the atomizer, although that does make a difference. There is a significant difference in the actually "vaping experience" between 3.7 volt, 5 volt and 6 volt PV's. I've used them all and many within each category and there are significant differences in how they feel and taste based on the battery and how well it heats the atomizer. And although the 510 atomizer is very popluar (I have recommended it many times) it is not my atomizer of choice as I find it too "hot" on 5 or 6 volt PV's. But give me a BE112 or 801 atomizer on a 5 volt PV and I believe you have the best of both worlds: great throat hit that doesn't burn and larger coil and cart if you don't drip (which I do drip).

He's right. I just got an eGo and so far I've been chain vaping for 7 hours, 44 minutes and 19 seconds, timed on a chronograph! Unbelievable battery duration.

Got my eGo two days ago... man, I love it. If I hadn't come to this forum, I might have ended up with something substandard (as I did with my first e-cig a year and a half ago). Have to agree that the battery life is amazing, but I also cannot get over how long the juice lasts. Already ordered some more different juices.

Good topic...
I was about to make my first purchase a 510, but am now favoring the eGo. I still have so much to learn, I'm here to do my homework so as to minimize, "Beginners Frustration" . Thanks for helping!

I'd definitely recommend the eGo.

I can't speak for many of the other e-cigs that have been mentioned in this forum, but I do know that this eGo is perhaps one of the best purchases I've ever made so far. I'm so hyped up about it that I think my family and friends are getting sick of hearing about it, LOL. I just tell them, "Well, I was sick of hearing you complain about my smoking... so now it's my turn." Good luck to you!

I'm hyped up in the same way! I wish I would have bought an eGo right off the bat when I first started vaping in August. On the other hand I did however need to feel like I had the 'size' of an actual cigarette so I'll always love my Blu and my 510. It was a leaning experience. Now I don't put down my eGo. It's that good.
